I see all these different color cannabis plants is it genetics or is there something that you can do to change the color of your bud?
NEWBIE QUESTION
Hi some plants will almost always turn color because their genes.
Some plants turn with cold, strong uv light, pH swing, but those can be harmful, probably shouldn’t be pushed.
Mine get down to about 62F and half of them turn colors.
Plants need the genetics for color, I use cooler temps at the last of flower when I want to exploit those genetics. I drop night temps to 50s last few weeks to get the colors going.
Your best bet is colder temps. Steady lows in the lower 50s once the transition is complete and full on flower is going. Lower temps during the stretch can sorta hinder growth. Don’t let highs get much into the 70s. Every strain I’ve grown that turned was exposed to similar temps. pH swing just looked more stressed than beneficial.
Genetics from a reputable breeder as well. Lots of them have pretty much singled out the trait to grow purple or pinkish buds.
I got pink to show in my last grow. Wasnt in the description from the breeder but my nighttime temps were getting down to ~62-65f with daytime highs ~80-83f all through flower.
It’s mostly genetic, colder temperatures will cause those colourful genetics to express themselves more so.
For example this is a Black Widow harvest from one of 4 plants, wasn’t particularly cold and the others had some darker colouring but nothing like this black beauty and it was a killer smoke.
