Is one of these plants a male?

I bought these seeds from a reputable site. They are supposed to be autoflowering Skunk. I planted them at the same time. One is getting little buds, and the other is not. Do I have a male here that I need to get rid of?

Close up pics of the plant’s nodes are necessary to determine sex. One plant is clearly female. It’s hard to determine the sex of the other without those pics.

Your plants will benefit greatly from more intense lighting.

Thank you. I have an LED light on them, but I guess it’s not enough. This is only my second grow. The first grow was outdoors, and I didn’t need to worry about light. Here are pics of the nodes. Some look like they are beginning to bud, but then the next day those little feathers are just leaves. I pruned it recently, but it looks like I should have pruned it sooner.
Thanks for taking a look.

The 1st pic is female. The 2nd is not mature enough to tell yet.

Good lighting and good basics will produce plants like this. We can help you achieve it, but it requires some investment.

That looks amazing! Tell me where to look up info to get those results. I am currently using nutrients for growing cannabis, again from a reputable company, but I am not getting those results.

If you are just growing 2 plants in a random area, then shoot for a minimum of 200 watts per plant (the pictured plant was illuminated with 400 watts.) Watts matter and must be from quality diodes for the best results. Insist on lighting built with Samsung LM301 diodes. HLG, AC Infinity, and Spider Farmer all offer good products.

You’ll need pH and PPM meters to manage your soil environment (details in the above link.) Bluelab and Apera both make great meters.

Thanks for the help. I’m interested to learn how to get great results. I’ll definitely get a new light immediately and start reading the Bible.
Thanks again!!!

Get @MidwestGuy approval before ordering the light.

Hi,
I wrote here back in January. I thought I had a male plant because it wasn’t growing buds like the other plant. I got some helpful advice about lighting and bought a new light. The other plant grew nice buds, and I harvested them. This plant looks like it has flowers now, no buds. It looks like the pictures of male plants. I have two other budding plants next to this. Three questions:

  1. Is this a male?
  2. If it’s male, will the harvested buds from the other plant which I am curing now be any good, or will there be no potency?
  3. If it’s male, besides separating them, what more can I do for the budding plants growing next to this now?

Thanks for your help.
Grace

Yes

Only if it got pollinated. The harvest would have been seeded if pollinated.

Okay. Thanks. I guess I’ll just keep the two budding plants and hope they continue to bud. I already isolated the male. Is it good for anything at all?

@GraceM ,
Will take a top down Ariel view of the suspect male plant. The shots were a tad blurry. Try to focus on the tops. Those suspect male parts almost look the rudderalis looking females we see now and then in autos. Where the female calyxes look like strung pearls instead of what we picture as traditional colas. Could be a male. One more pic please. :folded_hands:

If that’s the plant from your first post months ago it’s less likely a male. It would have all ready dumped pollen and finished. Sorry to bother you for one more focused top shot.

Hi,
Thanks for your help. I am new to growing and have a lot to learn. Here are three more pics. Yes, one of the plants in the original post is one I’m asking about. When I isolated the plant, I put a plastic bag over it, like I’ve seen in videos. It looks a bit worse for the wear now, but I’d appreciate any input. I know I know nothing.
If the plant is a male, can it be used for tea or anything else?
Thanks so much

Grace,
I think it’s a female. The photos still iffy. The best way is zoom all the way in with your phone, then physically back up until it comes into focus. Other wise zoom is often blurry as it focuses on the background.

Anyone else want to peek? What do you all think?

There is a whole thread about misfiring autos. This one is a photo plant actually but you get the idea. Same idea. Scroll up 6 posts in the thread, it copied lower than I meant to grab it.

You were in that thread I pasted in. What do you think about that last pic @GraceM reposted? Could it be a weird flowering plant?

I’m honestly not sure. It does look strange, but nothing stands out as a problem. More pics may help.

So the other seed of the same Skunk strain was planted at the same time, and it budded. I harvested it two weeks ago, dried it, and it’s curing now. This seems like a dud, male or female. Is there anything I can do with this? Tea? Does it have any potency?
I will be planting in my outdoor garden after Memorial Day here in Hudson Valley, NY. I have HIGH hopes for that, as I did well last year until a bad week of wet weather in September got one plant with bud rot. I saved all the others. I’m enjoying learning. I think this poor plant is a dud.
