I tried searching the forum first

But I’m probably not wording my question right. So ILGM says my two strains take 8 to 9 weeks to finish flowering. Do I count the week that I flipped as week 1? I didn’t really see any signs of flowering till the end of week 2 (ish). Question 2. Who stops feeding nutes for the last two weeks and who feeds right up till the end? What are y’all’s takes on that? Thanks for reading.

The clock starts when pistil appear at the tips of the plant.

I stop feeding my plants a week or 2 before harvest.

Start counting flower days after that 2 week transition period.
I’m hydro and I feed up till chop.

So I’m starting week 4 ish instead of week 6 ish. That’s good news! :sunglasses: thanks

Would you settle for a compromise? Lol

I feed normal until the last week, then just use plain water or sometimes a basic ripening agent like Flawless Finish.

I like flawless finish. I felt like my last grow was super smooth.

I don’t really worry about the exact week count, I monitor the plant and do what it appears to need.

I feed normally up the last week like @Cap_Ron and just pH adjusted water for the last week or so.

I’ve bumped into a few of us Rush fans here over the years @Jspeach. Not surprising if you’re familiar with the common aroma in the arenas when they played over the years, lol.

I land in the same area as Merlin. I note on the calendar when pistils appear and use that as a gauge as to when to start my next seeds. I like to get them started 2 or 3 weeks before I will chop. I will estimate the chop at 9 weeks from when the pistils appear. So if its earlier I will just go ahead and place the new plants in the tent. If its longer then I leave the new plants in the small grow cabinet I use for clones and seedlings. This works for photoperiod plants. Autos would be difficult to use this technique. I did try it before I started photos and had a lot of runts from leaving them in solo cups too long.
Growing in coco feeding works best up to harvest day. Maybe stop a few days before, but the plants will yellow very fast if not fed. Its pretty much like hydroponic since coco doesn’t hold food.

Just to clarify, I do track how many days it has been since I flipped to flower light schedule. That is more for reference when I post weekly update than anything else. I don’t use that number to make any decisions.

Hey Merlin, I have always counted day 1 of flower since I flip to 12/12. The strains I have grown usually end off within a week of what the seed bank suggests, but I suppose it also depends on how much amber we are looking for. But the main reason I count from day of flip is probably because I’m too picky when looking at those pistils popping out lol.

I discontinue feeding 1 1/2 to 2 weeks before chop and flush every watering till harvest and count flowering time from the time it shows its sex

I start counting when there are buttons- ie a little more than just pistils. On a recent grow I couldn’t figure out why the transition from veg to flower was taking so long. This is a picture 15 days after flipping.

Something was off. She should have had pistils by now. I checked the timer. It was ok at 12 hrs. I stuck my head in the closet after light off. The humidifier I put there to increase humidity during veg, although turned off, the LED panel still produced some red light. I didn’t think that would slow it down put maybe it did. I unplugged the humidifier. This is 6 days later

Transition took 21-22 days because of my mistake.

Seriously this is the most useful and informative website on the interwebs! Thanks for the info. Next grow I will try to pay more attention to when the pistils appear. I bought one of these bad boys before I started this grow.

lol it’s tiny but I can see tricromes really clear.

@Jspeach
Where did you get that micro camera?

I tried finding on Amazon but don’t see it

I haven’t been able to get the microscope cameras to work with an iPhone. Most work with android.

Can you tell me about your?

I got mine from the local grow store here but you can find it on Amazon as well (posted above) it does not hook up to a phone. Any phone. It has led lights below the lens and that’s about all the technology involved

Im organic and they feed all the way up to harvest. I dont bother with flushing. As far as the 8 to 9 weeks, thats just an average. Depending on what you want your trichomes to look like depends on finish time.

I’m gonna try and do an organic outdoor grow this year. It’s by far the biggest garden I’ve ever made. I tilled in horse s**t (3 massive bags) along with vegan compost. We’ll see what happens.
