I think I made a mistake. Should I chop?

Grow buds, I could use a little advice. First grow, and could not have done it without everyone on this forum. THANK YOU! :star_struck: Here is my dilemma. I have two plants in late flower. Grinder seeds from Top Shelf Gold Label (Native Roots). You all helped me diag a Cal-Mag deficiency about a week ago. Got busy with life and did not have a chance to buy some Dolomite Lime. I have some now and was planning on adding it to my watering tonight. Or will I? I know it takes about two weeks to stop the progression of this deficiency and will not fix damaged leaves. My plants are very close to harvest, I’d say about two weeks preferred. On my smaller lady the spotting has now gotten to the sugar leaves on a few colas. My question is will this eventually lead to bud rot? Even though I am not in my sweet spot, should I harvest this weekend? Whether I harvest this weekend or in another two week adding the Dolomite Lime would be fruitless, right? Bud rot is not an option after all this work. Here are a few pictures. Should I chop?

I do understand they are not ready, but running out of time.

Harvesting early sacrifices potency. A dilute spray of hydrogen peroxide/water will take care of any mold growth. It isn’t bad at this point (I don’t really see any mold in the pics.)

Heck no don’t chop. No bud rot will happen if you keep air movement and low humidity. Pop those dead leaves off and keep feeding and watering. You got a ways to go yet. If it was mine and in a soil or coco grow I would give it a splash of calmag and move on. Wouldn’t mess with the lime this late in the grow. The calmag wont give you the dreaded calmag bud if you haven’t been drowning your plants in it. Don’t panic and make it worse in your head than it really is…

@MidwestGuy Thanks for the quick reply. I agree I am not seeing bud rot currently, just concerned if I wait two weeks it will progress to that point with or without Dolomite Lime. I am very hesitant to spray anything on my buds at this point.

I’m confused. Lime has nothing to do with mold. Lime is used to buffer pH. Can you please clarify?

No reason to treat if no mold is present, particularly if the humidity is in check.

So you would use Cal-Mag and not Dolomite Lime? I thought it was the same thing.

Lime and cal/mag are 2 completely different things. They are in no way related.

They are worried that there going to get bud rot or mold because of the dying sugar leaves. Whgich isn’t going to happen if they keep humidity down and air movement…

Dolomite Lime has Cal and Mag and helps ph for uptake.

Dolomite lime contains it in the form of ca/mg carbonate. It is not water soluble and therefore not the nutrients in the form that a plant can uptake. It is used only to help buffer pH. You cannot replace a cal/mag supplement with dolomite lime.

And then there is this…

Learn something new every day. It appears that dolomite lime would be a completely ineffective for cannabis grows.

Its added to commercial soils to help ph fluctuations. Soil in the bag may set for a year or more before being used. And the majority of people using it will put in in a container or garden that will be used for more than 3 months. For us its almost useless as 3 or 4 months and were done.
Kinda the same as eggshells, takes years to break down But in the long term they do work eventually.

This is what I bought. Says 100 % water soluble so uptake should not take years, I would imagine.

Organic Dolomite Lime - Garden Soil Amendment Fertilizer for Plants. Calcium/Magnesium Additive. Safely Raise and Stabilize pH. 100% Pure Water Soluble. Cures Blossom End Rot in Tomatoes & Peppers

By definition, dolomite lime (CaMg(CO3)2) is not water soluble. If what they are selling is soluble, then it is not dolomite lime. It cannot be both dolomite lime and water soluble.

I just put 10g of dolomite lime in 3 ounces of RO water. It did not raise the total dissolved solids (PPM, EC) of the water.

Interesting. I have to try it now too.

In the long term it will provide Calcium and Magnesium. It take acidity to break it down. Like vinegar reacting with Baking soda. Peat Moss will break down into an acidic nature and lime is added to counteract this. So any soil with peat moss will almost always contain lime too. If you grow blueberries, or other acid loving plants, then peat moss only is the amendment of choice. But again it takes a year or more to do the job.
A CalMag supplement is the best way to address a deficiency. Immediately available to the plant and its not expensive. There are a few growers here who state that they never use calmag and that its unnecessary. I have a bottle and have not used it in over a year on my cannabis.
Almost every issue I have seen and had myself was a pH problem and once corrected the plant was fine.

I read this a bit ago. The only known solvent of CaMg(CO3)2 is hydrochloric acid.

What does this mean? I currently have an issue and cal mag was recommended, I’ve only used it once so far? What concerns should I have? Thank you

I’ve never heard of “calmag bud.” Calcium and magnesium are micronutrients that the plant needs. It is in most demand by the plant during flowering. All good cannabis soils contain it, but it gets depleted over time and must be supplemented later in grows.

It’s hard to hurt a plant with cal/mag, so supplementing early shouldn’t be a problem. I add 5ml of the FF cal/mag with every watering once I start feeding a plant.

The form of calcium and magnesium in supplements is water soluble. The forms are calcium carbonate and magnesium sulfate.

Some folks way over dose and use the crap out of calmag. And if used as such it will make your buds always have the dreaded calmag smell and taste. Because of improper use calmag gets a bad name. Funny wife needed some more gummies yesterday. She likes a particular brand and takes micro amounts. Anyway we walked into a dispensary and we got hit with the smell of calmag bud. I turned around and walked out. She stayed and got her meds. When we got home she wanted know what calmag bud was. I gave her a bottle of calmag to smell and she was yup thats what it smelled like in there.
