I believe one of my girls is ready. Question for the more experience grower. I was going to ice and put in the dark for a couple days. What does that do? Sorry if it’s a dumb question. Iglm Afghan Skunk Auto.

Ice is supposed to promote a last gasp production of THC but no studies have shown it does a thing. Extended darkness is supposed to take advantage of the plant’s natural cycle to send salts from the canopy to the roots, thus making a smoother smoke. Again; no real data to support this either.
I incorporate a period of darkness before harvest but I couple it with an extended flush while monitoring TDS levels until they hit my target: <300 ppm in soil, <100 ppm in coco or hydro. This does make for a smoother cured flower.
I would also incorporate a peroxide bud wash at harvest: 1 cup 3% peroxide in a 5 gallon bucket of water, soak plant material for 6 minutes, rinse in tap water and hang to dry. THC is not soluble in water or peroxide. This will help your cured flower last longer as you have nuked all white powdery mildew (likely present and hidden in the flower) which contributes to plant material degrading in the jar.
