Humidity getting as high as 91% at night

Normally it is extremely dry in my home in the cold months due to my furnace heat. In the past I usually have a boiling kettle of water on my stove. I have a make-shift grow room 8x8x8. I have 2 blurples and a quantum board, 2 lg. fans and 1 small. 10 plants 7/ photos 3/ autos. I leave the door open during lights on and the humidity only will drop to to 69-73%. I put 2 buckets of charcoal in there to help. I know easy answer would be just go buy a dehumidifier. Unfortunately I don’t have a job, unable to work so family help me. They just bought me another light. I hate to ask for anything else, so am seeing if the good folk here have any get-by ideas until I win the lottery?

Keep your exhaust fan running 24/7 to help with the humidity
A intake fan will also help pull drier air into tent

What do you have as far as set up ? Just saw you listed your set up I don’t see a intake or exhaust fan just two large fans in space you need to pull the humid air out and replace it with drier air cause of the moist soil tent humidity will be higher then what’s in the home

Not sure if its an option but how about running an ac unit in the rooms window if available? That will help bring down humidity. I have a window unit in my basement setup that stabilizes temps for the day, together with the boiler room being kept open to keep it warm at night. I have a couple of small tents in the room with exhaust fans and circulating fans running 24-7… lights are 12-12 and on timers.

Homemade setup, lol. Had to work with what I had, so don’t laugh too hard I’ll take pics. And I do leave all 3 fans running 24/7.

I am unable to work so I get by with help from family. So this is all I got.

Could I cut a hole towards the bottom and somehow build me a sorta tube thing to keep light out, but tie my fan into the tube thingy somehow? Do I need 2 holes with fans 1 for intake and 1 for output? Is that right? I do keep the door open during lights on but the lowest I can get during the day is about 67%.

Im not a pro and please let others also chime in but without those you may want to get your fan/exhaust going at the top of the tent to get the heat out not recirculating. Hot air rises so get something at the top of the walls and it will pull alot of the heat out and should help lower temps and humidity. Hi humidity is a killer as I understand. It leads to mold and bud rot when your to that point in flower. In veg you want to stay at 65-70%. In flower you want to back down thru the stage till your in 35-40% at harvest time.

My temps really don’t get high in there. In 24 hrs it ranged from 63-70. I will see if I can’t rig up something toward the ceiling. Need to go smoke and let my brain do some magic. Lol.

I hear that! I keep my temp and humidity sensor near the top half of the tent/room not on the floor. Yeah you need hot/humid air out the top and cool air coming in at the bottom.flex exhaust duct for driers is real cheap at the hardware store/homedepot. Also a 4" bath exhaust fan can be rigged and theyre about 15$ at the homedepot.

I really appreciate your help. And yeah that makes sense. I will see what I can come up with. I met a grower from my area a couple of days ago, he brought me some Colorado Candy auto seeds I gave him 14 clones. He just called to check on my humidity cause he said he was worried it was way too high to be going into flower, so he is going to come over and try and help me. I will tell him what ya said, Thanks again!

No problem @QtPatooty, Its good to have another set of eyes to help out. Id say get a few more clones ready for him!! Keep me in the loop!

Ok so this guy is the greatest. Look what he did for me. Sorry bout the pics they have lines in them I guess from the light. But it was like Santa came to visit.

He brought me a humidifier, one of those air things with temp. control and alarm. Window unit ac and a 1000w sodium light with ballast. Looks like a different room and he was quick too. I feel soooo blessed right now and happy my little gals are gonna make it. Humidity now at 47% and temp 73 degrees.

Make sure that there are no light leaks through the window ac… they tend to have alot of light leaks…

Thanks peachfuzz. Thats my project for New Years Eve. Gonna party in my grow room with the girls. He also left me duct tape to seal all the leaks with. And I have plenty of that sheeting stuff.

You have some awesome info, and @Countryboyjvd1971 will be back I’m sure.

In the meantime, I think you’re headed in right direction. I would absolutely suggest you get some sort of light trap built so you can get fresh air into your space all the time. You will be able to keep those swings more balanced. Also, you have a lot of duct and bends on your exhaust. It’s good at the top of your space, but would you be able to route it straight out the top? The bends and length will restrict your airflow some. In deal situation you would keep amount of duct and bends to a minimum. Then bring fresh air in the bottom of space on one side and then exhaust from top out the other side.

Doesn’t need to be perfect, but closer you get to ideal the easier it will be.

Ok I will try and work on that tomorrow but so glad you dropped in, your just the guy I was wanting to talk to. Ok, lights. How many lights should I use and which ones? I have 1500w blurple and 1000w blurple and 2- 260 w qb’s plus the 1000w sodium light. My area is 8x8. And I just flipped to flower 2 nights ago.

Countryboy a lot better with the ventilation than I am, so anything he gives you should be rated higher than me lol.

The lights, use the qbs and hps light as your primary light sources. If you feel it’s a little weak after those implement the others. I would probably try putting hps close to center and then others around it as needed.

Thanks @dbrn32. I also am wondering on a light meter what is ideal for flower?

I will say that hps light is awesome. The girls are standing at attention and waving. No lie!

They are definitely very powerful!

I wouldn’t spend money on a light meter given circumstances. A good one is expensive, and an inexpensive meter usually leaves you wanting a better meter.
