So last year was my first year to grow MJ with the obvious hurdles, hiccups and screw ups! During that time I found this website and I’ve been studying up.
I was hoping members would share what they do to prepare their sites outdoors whether it be in the backyard or a guerilla grow (especially the latter as I’m going to be planting several top secret gardens off the beaten path!)
I’ve tried to find a thread similar to this bit had no luck. Any replies are greatly appreciated.
@FyshhTrap -tagged you buddy bc I’ve seen your nice outdoor grows.
@FloridaSon hit us with some of the knowledge brother!
I will be growing guerrilla style growth too, it will be on my wife’s 180 acres…lol
I told her I am thinking about trying to grow a few MJ plants, she already knew what’s coming ( I won’t say the number )
I will be amending the soil with forest humus and my own composted rabbit and poultry manure…
All sites will have easy water acres , all gravity fed through flex pipes…
I will be spreading deer netting 10 feet tall around each site…
Then I plant and let them do their thing…
I’ve heard a lot of people using rabbit dung. Guess my wife will get that bunny she’s been wanting!
Its the best manure there is …
Its “cold”, so if you need for any reason to amend your garden beds during growing season, its all good even fresh, I usually dress up my veggie garden ( top spreading ) at least once of their life cycle…
I have to compost my poultry poop, cause that is very " hot" stuff…
I like to turn a 3’sq. for each plant to around 18" deep. I add in a large coffee canister worth of soil from my worm bed. Two canisters of course perlite. Dump in a 5gal bucket full of the oak leaves I have all over the yard. Sprinkle about 2 cups of wood ash. I snatch up a couple of good fistfuls of clover, as green manure, turning everything in until it’s mixed in well.
I do this in advance to give everything a chance to start working in the soil. Being in my yard, I’m able to water the prepared site once a week. The moisture helps with the decomposition.
I suggest you check the pH of the soil and adjust it before placement of your girl. It will save problems later.
It works for me so I hope this gives you ideas for what would work for you…
That’s a fine gardening there my friend, hatts off !!!
Thank you. I’m still trying to improve, but this start works in my sandy soil. I was also impressed with what you described.
I didn’t realize rabbit manure was considered cool. I’ll have to remember that the next time I’m slipping through the woods. I’m sure I could fill a quart bag.
Yeah, I grow up on my grandma homestead back in day…I learned trick or two
But your clover touch is a masterpiece, I do that every few years to my garden, just grow it ( annual) and then work it to the soil…
Happy growing this year !
What about deer poop lol? I see it everywhere when I hunt, plus they come through my yard almost every night! Anybody know about deer poop? The rabbit poop is interesting, I’d get a rabbit now knowing that!
Deer poop would be a little bit hotter I think, never used it before…good thought
Dude that’s soo funny, the things we do to increase yield
Het @Beans, sorry it took so long to get back to you, I was at a Fishing show in RhodeIsland.
Out door growing Starts the same as indoor, so pay Close attention to what these guys and girls have to say about starting your plants, you want Healthy ones to put outside, I start mine in late March/early April indoors, and let em grow for at least a Month, this lets me decide on which ones are going to make the grade.
Now you gotta get em there. I use a back pack and carry 2-3 at a time(still in pots)
Soo lets back up a bit and talk Grow site.
How long is your grow season going to be, mine will be outside from April/May to Oct.
Where are or is your Placement of plants in direct correlation to get the Max amt. of sun per day, you want at least 7-8 hours of direct sun, this does not include ambient (shaded) light.
How will you water and or get water to plants, remember PH"d and nutrients added, I use 46 oz.juice bottles, for carrying pre nuted water, one bottle may last for 4 plants in the beginning and only 2 or even 1 torward the end of season.
Your "Guerilla "site must be ready prepared BEFORE you even get there, holes dug , area raked, trees cleared, brush pulled away. You have to bring your soil (FFOF) or what ever at 12 lbs per bag there.
I do All this a piece at a time with a small day pack and a MTN Bike, and I do this Comfortably in the daylight,
Now just how do I do this is very easy, I let and Want people to get accustomed to seeing me at various locations throught the day, not that I let them close to my grow sight but enough that I’m not sneaking around looking suspicious before hand.
Its a Magic show my friend, now you see me now you don’t, look and act casual, wear Earth tone clothing, Grey, Beigh, camo shorts and a grey shirt can let you blend into surroundings very fast.
Be able to be there one second and not be there the next especially when you are nearing your site.
I like planting near lowland lakes , rivers and streams, away from large treelines but near bushes etc…
I also like fishing so I tend to have a small fishing pole with me at all times with one lure, and if I come out of the bushes at night and someone sees me , it looks like I was fishing, I just mind my business, get on my bike and keep moving. Magic Show my friend
Bottom line is that its A lot of work, but once its in motion, it just runs itself.
Remember ,you"re growing a weed out doors, once your plant adjusts to its surroundings, it basically takes care of it self, I use “Garden Safe” Fungicide 3, it is a fungicide, miticide and insecticide, about every two days once they are planted, I also use various nutes, like Earth Juice Rainbow mix Bloom, Alaska fish fertilizer, and this year I"ll be using open sesame, beastie bloomz and cha ching along with some experimental composted soil.
So that gives you an idea what I do and there is more too !!! so keep the questions coming, there aint much time left to get em out there !!! <*)))><{
Last year was my first grow, i grew in my veggie garden. I had two plants and yield, just over 2 pounds. Kept the plants well watered, and used grass clipping as mulch. I was thinking of trying one or two plants again this year in the veggie garden but found a place that i was gonna try a guerrilla grow, and see what I get from this. I cleared a spot last fall. I was planning on caging the plants so no deer can get in. I have a way to get water to the plants.
Wonderful response, Brother!
I agree with @FloridaSon, that was an awesome response! Very indepth! Sorry I haven’t responded sooner we had a death in the family. I live in Ms. so I guess I have a little longer growing season than you but not by much. I messed up a lot of good seeds last month by germinating them a week before I went on vacation to cancun. Did not think that out too well. To make a long story short, the soil dried out and I didn’t have any ventilation. Just a box fan blowing in the tent. Stunted the hell out of them. 15 White widow autos and 8 Strawberry Kush. Live and learn! I’ve always heard it say, if you’re not screwing up you’re not learning! I guess there are better ways to learn though!!!
At any rate, two of the SK seemed to be doing better than the others and have made a recovery.
Hoping to get my grow sites ready in the next couple of days and get these ladies outside along with some more ILGM seeds I have (that I don’t plan on screwing up this time!!!)
Live and learn brother, don’t feel too bad, I completely messed up my first batch of 60day wonders, was not able to keep the night temp over 55 F , they are pretty much behind everything else I planted when I moved all growth to new greenhouse… Its off to the races now
I am gonna grow more of a guerrilla style, like i posted in the other comment. But I wanted to try to increase my yield…so I am gonna try Happy Frog this year, the tomato and veggie kind. My plants did very well in my veggie garden, but just wanted to try and increase my yield.
Make sure you allow for your plants to grow their roots big, the bigger the root system the bigger the plant, or you can try a scrog, but basically the better the root system the bigger the grow (Trees)
So I have some super skunk reg seeds that I planned on growing to get some seeds. Went to this one spot that is a fresh cutover that tapers down to a creek bottom. Dug two feet down and then went and tripped more soil in. When I got back there was water standing in the bottom of the hole.
Now I’m in Mississippi and it will get drier here in the summer I guarantee!!! That’s why I wanted it close to the bottom land. Think it’d be safe or maybe too low?
