Hoping my luck has turned, 2nd go at AK47 Autoflower: step by step

So this is my second attempt at growing an AK47 autoflower. My first 3 seeds failed immediately after germination, and ILGM replaced them. This is the first of the replacements. This is also, if successful, my first autoflower grow. So excited! Here goes!

2/27/017
Placed seed in pH 6.0, 65 F water

2/28/017
After 24 hours the seed has noticeably split, but a taproot has not emerged.
– This is different than the first batch of seeds which seemed to split and develop a substantial taproot within 18 hours.
Coco coir starter pellet was placed in starter tray, and dampened with water that the seed had been soaking in, until the expansion of coco coir filled the cup: 10ml
2 additional tray cups were filled with water.
Using a plastic probe, a small hole of ~1/4" depth (+/- 1/16") was made in the coco coir.
Using plastic tweezers, the seed was placed in the hole with the split where the taproot emerges facing downward. The walls of the hole where then collapse on top of the seed.
The starter tray was placed in a humidity dome, with a temperature ~78 F, and a humidity of 75%.

24 hours since planting the split seed in the Coco Coir starter pellet, and no seedling has sprouted.
— Small temperature and humidity fluctuation overnight in the humidity dome:
* Min Temp dropped to 74.8 F (down from Max 78.5, average 77.8 F)
* Max Humidity increased to 81% (up from Max of 79%, average 75%)

Continuing observation

I’ll continue to observe with you…

I’m sure all will be fine
I had similar problem with the tap roots on my super silver haze
So after 24 hour soak I placed mine in paper towel for another 12 hours nice long tap roots transferred into soil :+1:

Still no sign of life at 48 hours since planting. I upped the humidity to 81%, and the temperature to 78 F.

Ahhh… look at her! Seed has sprouted at ~56 hour mark since planting in medium.

We call that success!!

This is probably one of my most favorite parts in growing anything: seedling stage. It’s like a new surprise of growth every few hours it seems.

Sometimes it can take a few days, they all can’t be super stars haha
Glad they are workin

Hi buddy, this is my nightmare time of growing, I have a success rate at the moment of 1 in 5 produced a plant for me, I tried to start 3 durban poison seeds and 2 gold leaf and only had success with 1 durban poison, I have learnt my lesson a now have a proper gator, with a dome and self watering system and with a heat mat connected to a thermostat, and now I have a successful gold leaf, but she’s very delicate at the moment

I have built up around her with a little miracle grow rooting peat, and I’m going to gently spray her for 2 days, and then I’m going to put her in a bigger pot and put her a little deeper, oh and I have her supported with a little wooden peg and gently tied with a soft string

~3 days since sprouting. A nice spiral of rooting is visible through the bottom of the tray. I’m going to give her 1 more day in the humidity dome and then move her into her own DWC bucket.

She’s reaching for light. Stake her and move the light a bit closer, before she tries to become a vine. I had 2 of 5 Gold Leaf sprout. All germinated, but 3 died before sprouting. I also had 3 AK47 autoflowers do the same thing. It was a bad run for me too.

Btw… Miracle Grow leaves a funny after taste that I could never get out, regardless of how much flushing. When I was doing soil grows I went to my local waste water treatment plant and bought the soil they made from all biomass that came through the drains. It cost $1/bag (1.5 cu feet), was 100% organic, left no flavor, and the plants grew like madness. Just a thought for you!

My little lady AK went into her own DWC bucket today. It’s like a baby’s first step. I’m such a proud poppa!

I did try something new for me. I normally transfer the seedling from the Coco starter pellet to a rockwool cube before placing in the hydroton. This time, I went ahead and kept her in the Coco.

She’s my first autoflower grown, so I figured I would try new things all the way through.

Well… Been away and very busy, but I will get some new pics posted today. I now have 3 AK47 autoflowers going. The first one (which this post was the topic of) has preflowered. I moved her into the main room with my Goldleafs, and she is on a 16/8 lighting schedule. I’m not liking her small size and “stringy” appearance. Perhaps my lights were not close enough to her when I moved her? She also received her first small dose of bloom nutrient. I gave her a heavy dose of the veg nutrient, waited 2 days, then gave her the bloom. She responded well, with no burn or lockout evidenced.

The other 2 were topped yesterday. I didn’t top the first one, but felt that topping these 2 would go a long way to increasing my yield (obviously), and provide me some personal experience regarding the question of: should I top an auto flower? This seems to be a mixed response question on the inter webs with the verdict split about 50/50. I hate not “knowing” so decided to go for topping them.

Pics to come…

Here are the 2 youngest Ak47 autoflowers. They are 1 week from seedling/21 days from germination.

She’s at 33 days since sprouting.
