😱 Help! Crispy leaves with edges turning yellow

Hello,
past two days I noticed my plant is turning yellow fast. The leaves are dark green, crispy with edges turning yellow and eventually brown.
Any ideas why? I can’t tell if it’s nut burn, toxicity or a deficiency.
I give it some liquid seaweed and urb twice a week
Skipped last week to see if improves

  • GG4 by ILGM 5 weeks old veg stage
  • Method: Organic soil, Fox Farms Ocean Forest
  • Vessels: 1Gal Plastic pot (planning to transplant to 7gal fabric)
  • PH of Water: 7 haven’t checked the runoff
  • PPM/TDS or EC N/A
  • Indoor
  • Light system LED 260w ~ 30ā€ above
  • Temps; Day 81, Night 79
  • Humidity; Day 45%, Night 50%
  • Ventilation system; Yes
  • AC No, Humidifier Yes
  • Co2; No

What can I do? Any ideas as to what this might be?
Thank you

First: stop feeding it. Second; your input water should be 6.3 to 6.8. If you do not have a digital PH meter you really need a good one. A TDS meter is a good idea too.

It looks to me like a nutrient lockout.

How about some more info:

Thanks for the response! Ok noted.

I haven’t fed her anything but water for a whole week it still continued to yellow, so I did the opposite today and gave it some liquid seaweed to see if does anything. I was afraid it was a deficiency.

I wanted to buy a digital PH meter but most of them on Amazon are sketchy and have fake reviews so I’m jus using stripes. The legit ones seem to be in the +$100 range, I’ll see if I can find a cheaper one.

Do the pictures not seem clear?

How close is your light?

Hey @Willk. Welcome to ILGM. It looks like overfeeding to me, maybe beginning to get root bound as well. Depending which Fox Farm soil you’re using, you may not need to supplement anything until well into veg, if not all the way to the flowering stage. Skipping the feed is a good move. I’d give her water only again, next time she needs it, and give her enough to get a decent amount of runoff…a couple quarts at least. Then, measure the pH/ppm of that runoff to see where you’re at. If it’s Ocean Forest, you’re probably just putting too much on her plate is all. Worst case, you may need to flush the soil, but I think you’re on the right track. Decent pH and TDS meters can be had for cheap, and the information they give you about your plants’ soil is priceless. Once you know what’s in the soil, you can better adjust what to put in next time.

I moved it to 30ā€ it was 25, I wanted to see if it makes it any better. Now I’m not sure if thats too far.

I have one of these and used it for 2 years: great device. Any $15 TDS pen will do fine.

What light do you have and is the stated wattage at the plug or what the manufacturer told you?

Strips and drops are not really accurate enough for our purposes.

Hi @elheffe702 sorry I forgot to mention it’s Ocean Forest.
Thank you for clarifying, I wasn’t sure If the soil alone was enough for it to grow and if so for how long. I’m glad I didn’t buy any nutrients besides seaweed. I was starting to worry the plant doesn’t have enough nutrients.

Yea I’m looking into buying a digital PH pen now and check the runoff.

You think it might be rootbound? It’s hard to tell, it’s a very short plant. I can’t tell when to transplant, do you think I can transplant it to a 7gal pot now? It was in a solo cup just 20 days ago.

Thank you again for all the useful info.

@Myfriendis410 looks good! Thank you, I’ll order it.

The manufacturer says it’s 1500 but the plug is 260
It’s a cheap Chinese one not the best, I was on a tight budget. It had alright reviews so I bought it and it’s been good for now, it’s really bright, got UV and IR I turned on both switches from the beginning because the seedling was stretching too tall.

How big is the container?

1 gallon

Yep, I’d go ahead and pot up then. Still lots of green there, no worries. Looks pretty good overall, and you’re already taking steps to help. :+1:

Ok, I have some compost, worm casting and a few organic fertilizers as well. I was planning on mixing some super soil for the bottom third and fill the top with the Ocean Forest.
Do you think that’s a good idea? I don’t want to give nutrients so I want to make sure I have a good soil mix all the way to harvest.
I got blood meal fishbone meal worm casting compost azomite dolomite and epsom salt.

I really appreciate the info, thank you! You guys answered all my questions.

@Budbrother @Mrcrabs @garrigan62 these guys can help you on the specifics with your soil, and organic growing in general. I’ve only personally used premixed stuff in a bag, and coco. But it sounds like you’re on the right track. You can use what you have to create a very good soil. :+1:

Sounds like a good plan, I do something similar,But I grow in living soil, using insects frass, perlite, vermiculite, gypsum, biochar, compost , amozite and a few Coco and aloe watering to get me bye a whole grow so I don’t see why not, I’m. Not familiar with super soil recipes but @garrigan62 and @Budbrother should be more knowledge about stuff in that nature, good luck on your grow
