Growing decent Auto Flowering plants every grow

Wow, that’s terrible… Have you figured out what’s going on?

I’m still a noob at growing, I’m on my 3rd grow at the moment, 5 weeks in.

My 1st grow was 4 different strains, 2 autos and 2 regular. I learned a lot with that grow. It was all messed up from start to finish. I used plastic 6 gallon pots. I never transplanted. I just started the seeds off in wet paper towels in a ziplock baggie. It took 2 days to germinate the seeds, after that I plopped them into the soil. I also just used whatever potting soil I had around. It was a mix of Miracle Grow/some garden shops dirt plus some Black Magic.

That 1st grow started off all bad…but they still looked better than yours in that picture. My leaves were all spotted and ugly. It turned out to be the ph level. It was between 7 & 8. Once I got some ph down and fixed the ph levels to between 6&7, the plants looked much better. I planted during the spring…so temps in the tent weren’t so bad. mid 80s. When the plants were in full bloom and very skunky, the temps in the tent one day shot up to upper 90s. The skunk smell disappeared. So I installed an a/c in the room with the tent and got the temps down to mid 80’s. Thru all that the plants still grew… My 3x3 tent was WAY overcrowded. I had a tough time reaching the back of the tent to water. I ended up with mexican sticks and seeds weed. I only ended up with maybe 3 30oz mason jars.

I adjusted to all my mistakes with the 2nd grow. 1 auto flower Northern Lights, in an airpot. It was a super hot summer. I had the a/c on 24/7 on high in the room, not in the tent with a humidifier in the tent. I also prunned the some of the sun leaves to encourage side branch growth…but I only did that for the 1st 3 weeks. After that I left it alone. I checked in on my plant 2-3 times a day to make sure temps, humidity and soil were all good. I just used my fingers to check the soil’s moisture levels. I had temps consistently in the low 80s, humidity in the mid 60s. For watering, I used tap water that I’d leave out for at least 24 hours before I’d treat it with ph down and or fertilizer. I fertilized every other watering and only ever a quart of water at a time.
What I ended up with was beautiful. I filled up 5 30oz mason jars with 1 plant. The mature plant filled up the 3x3 tent wall to wall and the buds were so heavy that even with netting, the tops were falling over.

my current setup: 3’x3’x6’ tent. 1,200 watt COB light, 660 cfm exhaust fan, 6" clip on fan. I used Bergman’s fertilizers, felt airpots.

I’m going to expand my setup with another tent. I found a 2.5’x5.5’x7’. I figure I can have 2 plants going at a time in the big tents and start 2 plants growing in the 3x3 tent when the big tent plants are a few weeks away from harvest.

My current and 3rd grow is an amnesia haze auto and a fem white diesel. I’m doing the scrog on the white diesel so it’s growing slow…it’s almost a foot tall with 16 side branches. I just plopped the amnesia have auto into the dirt.

I hope this 3rd grow goes better than the 2nd.

Are you going to start a journal? If so, please tag me, if you remember.

My first few grows were utter failures. I’m getting the hang of things, now, thanks to this site.

No journal on this side.

I’m trying to avoid all the beginner mistakes during my first grow by pretty much constant research but there are so many different grow styles and opinions it gets really confusing but you really stepped up your game after your first grow congrats!!!

I didn’t think you were supposed to supercrop, top, fem, ect. with autos??? I’m a beginner just going on what I’ve researched

If plants are healthy, I FIM at 4th ot 5th node and start. LST a week later. It really all boils down to health of plant when you decide to torture it a bit.

Another thing I noticed, the more I baby the plant, the more trouble I get into.

Fem is not a training technique. FIM is. :grinning:

Um, Fem means feminized and FIM means “f@ck I missed”. Those terms are very different.

You don’t want to learn, I am ok with that. Good luck growing.

I know the difference just spelled it wronge forgive me

I’m an old but a newbie farmer, I read more conservative results for Autoflowers, following more along your message. Where some plants may only grow to 8" while others up to 20". Then there are the “Super Auto’s, but never learned what strains they were. and yields from 1/8 to a few OZ.s while the Supers were higher.
So now with limited room do you just start 1 or 2 seeds? then if you have a dud or early death you could have lost weeks of time when you have to start all over. So I said F it!
I started 10 WW Autos from ILGM july30, and figured I’d deal with where to put if they all survived. Well 1 died. Boo Hoo! The rest are on their way to harvest time, though some are taking longer, probably a month longer.
Go ahead laugh say I’m stupid. But due to only having a 3’ sq controlled area I gave it a shot, Better than nutin…
I have some plants (3 or so) in QT size pots. 5” dia 4" high and from guessing they all should produce just under an oz. The ones in larger 1 gal cont. aren’t taller they are bushier and only now beginning the flower stage.
I root pruned the ones in the QT scratched through the soil regularly half way down and about 2" around the outside of the pot. LED 25watt light strips on the sides & a 50 watt COB above, the light saturation was better than going with 1 high power unit, and only150 watts total consumption. Not much room after all that’s in there. They were fed organic foxfarm and that’s about it. I’m not interested in bragging rights of size or quantity I’m interested in producing and using less space. Considering my choice of size of 1 maybe two plants that what happens if 1 dies or worse… over numbers of plants even if smaller with less yield. Plants maybe small but I have 9 of them growing! And soon to be harvested, & I’ve already ordered for the next batch to grow. These are about 18" shingle courses are 6" to the weather, already trimmed back the fans. These two are ready next week. Hi Guys, @Screwauger, @NavyVet420, you guys are very helpful. Lots of great tips.
On my last grow, I did two ILGM Amnesia Haze autos. You can find my grow journal for a ton of pics. One was small, and one, I guess, was a super auto because she grew big.
Here they are side by side.

If I would have known a few things about when to harvest and had my cure methods worked out they would have been great producers. Unfortunately they spoiled and got mold and were ruined by yours truly. But I learned enough by losing those two and a Blackberry Kush that by the time my Super Skunk and La Cake photos were ready, I had straightened out my cure game.
On my new grow I have so far, I have a Amsterdam seed, GG4 going and a ILGM White Widow. They sprouted Sept 24. (Look closely!)

And stretched quickly a day later with a second set of leaves on the 25th.

They took a few days to get going under 30w grow bulb at 18/6.
This is Sept. 29th

On Oct. 4th I transplanted them to their 3 gal felt pots.

They started in Fox Farms Ocean Forest and thats whats in the 3 gal pots too. They only get ph’d water from my dehumidifier every other day and a spray mist every day of Bergmans Mold protector mixed with water as directed.
This is now two days ago the 14th.

Not bad growth for the past 12 days huh? They exploded and are super tight due to the daily LST I did up till a week ago. Just lightly petting the petals down twice a day is all I do.
Two ILGM Amnesia Haze and an Amsterdam NYC SourDeisel failed to pop so I moved on and now have an Amsterdam White Widow/California that popped and my last Amnesia Haze. Only got 3 out of ten to sprout and grow and ILGM is sending me replacements.

My question is, what stage am I in at the moment with the GG4 and WW do you think Im in? I think Im in my second week now if I follow the above recomendations you made. Would you agree? Thanks for the input. Wanted to share but you can follow my grow page. Forgive me for carrying on on your post.
Puff puff …pass!

take your time My first auto grow White Widow yielded 4.5 oz (126 g) from a single plant. She took 16 weeks. Kept waiting to get some amber trics. She decided it was time to harvest the stems started breaking!!

Hi @HearBob, Did all the leaves drying out have an effect on the smoke at all? Mine did the same and then spoiled soon after. I thought I went too long with them. I was waiting for more amber trichs as well and had stopped feeding her tho she was getting water. Her leaves never transitioned into finishing colors like other plants. They just got brown and dry. Very similar to your pic.

No the smoke is quite tasty. 3 weeks drying 4 weeks curing I keep a 62% RH pack in the jars
