General autoflower questions

Thanks great and informative response from everyone.

I’ve been watching a bunch of videos on growing, and I think I’ve decided to cut back, and go with a single 2’x4’ tent to start, as I’ve have several back surgeries, and I have a very limited range of motion with my spine, not to mention I have chronic and severe back pain. Watching videos where GT worked in the back of his 4x4 makes me think that I’d be much better off limiting the depth of my tents to 3’ at the most, so I don’t really have to stretch out to reach the back row, I wish someone offered a 3’x6’ or even 8’, but of course odd sizes like that would result in increased lighting costs as you couldn’t just step up in size, but instead would need multiple units.

This means I’d probably only start two plants at a time, since it seems that ultimately I’ll want to have 2’x2’ available for each plant. Or would a 3’x3’ be better as it would give each plant a bit more room?

Either way, if I end up enjoying growing, and found the tent was okay to work in, despite my back issues, I’d likely add 2 couple more of the same size instead of getting a larger one as a second tent.

I have this tent here and think you may like it from what you say. I can do 3 nice photos in it also. Most of my plants are in a 2x2 area. But can run over some next to them if they need. Nothing wrong with a 4x4 either if you just want to do a few plants. It gives a little extra room to hang fans and your filter. I run a booster fan inside my 5’t tent here and vent to my room. This below is pretty close to a 2x2 area each when you crunch numbers. 20"x32"

This is 3 photos here in the same tent listed above. Vegged at 5 weeks each. each plant averaged in the 7oz range.

The post from @Not2SureYet is probably some of the best advice you will get. Not only because he is one of the best auto growers in the community but it’s best to follow advice from one or two trusted people with experience. Otherwise you will get a lot of different opinions and that can make it harder to decide what to do. Plenty of good people here to help you out. Good luck

Thanks @Capt.Cola I am not sure I am one of the best. But I am an auto pusher

SK, this is my current journal. The 2vast2fast auto is getting grown on a 12/12 for the whole grow.
Some thing I noticed that may be of interest to you. The big tent here with 4 plants in it is a 4x8 I modified to be a 2x8. It is not hard to take a tent and fit it to your needs. A little panda film goes a long ways

Awesome, thanks. I’ll definitely check it out as I’m sure that extra room surely would go to waste, even if I only run two photos, but having the ability to run three would definitely be handy! (

I ran out of likes?

It’s the forum’s own fault, as I’ve never run across such a friendly and helpful forum, and I’ve been on the internet since even years before Eternal September happened, and AOL and other online companies started offering internet access to the masses (some days I really miss the old days, before that happened, sure the net was nowhere near what it is today, but back then netiquette was expected, and if you knew PC’s hardware and software well enough, you could help enforce netiquette in the forums and chat rooms.)

Yeah. Likes don’t go far lol You could easily build a grow tent to fit exactly what you need. I will hunt down one of @Myfriendis410 s old grows. He built his room with foam board. I think he even has his new one in here. I will go find it.

The new. When he gets back from his trip. I am sure he will be by to show you his first room too

Yeah, just a little earlier I realized that as out basement is hardly used, other than for the furnace and hot water heater, I could probably fairly easily attach poles (or maybe wood beams either 1x1” or 2x2” from the floor, the the “ceiling,” which is really just the floor joists for the main floor of the house, and use tent materials to wrap the room, and make the ceiling. I hadn’t considered foam board for the walls, with I assume the reflective fabric put on the inside. But either way, I could actually make it as big, or wide, as I wanted (well within reason, as the basements not huge.) it does have a wall halfway across it, that goes halfway to the back, but each side has plenty of room to assemble a tent or build a grow room into it.

I ordered a temp/humidity sensor that has multiple WiFi remotes, so I can put a few in different areas of the basement and track the temp and humidity down there, while I’m deciding on how I’m going to go about this, and either get everything ordered and delivered, or the room built. That way I’ll have a better idea what, if anything, I’ll need to do to give the plants the proper environment.

Think I’m going to spend some time in the basement with a tape measure, at some point this week, so I can figure out the best spot

The foam board all ready has the aluminum reflective stuff on one side of it. here it is cheap. Less than 10.00 for a 4x8 sheet. If it stays some what warm down there. A wood frame and white panda film would work. cheaper than most tents and you get the size you want. I use the ink bird versions of the sensors you are talking about :+1:

I just built my tent out of PVC pipe and mylar blankets. It’s in a room and the farthest corner of my basement to keep any ambient light from entering it unless I turn a light on. It’s getting to the point where I’m ready to tear it down and not even use the mylar anymore and just use the frame to hang light from and grow in the back room. It would make it much easier to walk all the way around the plants. The only problem I could see is if odor is an issue it seems like it’s a little easier to filter air out of the tent then it is to filter the air out of a whole room.
