Thinking about setting tent up in the garage. Not attached and no heat. Temps around here get 30’s occasionally. Usually Maybe 1 or 2 freezes per year? Got 2 Mars FC-E1500 150 watts. Would they keep the inside of the tent warm enough? Currently in a closet in the spare room. Auto barely getting into flower and its already pretty pungent. Anyone ever have a similar ordeal?
I cant say how much heat your lights put off, but I am in an unheated garage as well and i had to put an eden pure heater in there. Its the nights that get ya.
Is the garage insulated? You may need some heat to help your temps.
I got an AC Infinity Thermoforge T3 heater for my tent and I love it! On sale at AC Infinity and Amazon for $99. If you already have an AC Infinity ecosystem it integrates nicely into one of their controllers. It uses a temp probe that you place into your tent and then you set your desired temps from the unit itself if you don’t have an AC Infinity controller.
Mine got delivered Saturday. Got the T3 Heater for the nursery and a T7 humidifier for the bus… T7 will be here Friyay… @SausageMahoney im in a “detatched garage” with built insulated rooms. A heater will be a must. Lights out your temps will plummet. As far as will your light produce enough heat? I doubt it. I have 1500 watts going full blast and with outside temps in the 30s ill hit 82 in the room. In my veg room which is a 4x8 i still have to use a heater during lights out and even with lights on, depending on the temp outside , the heater might still kick on. I use radiator heaters in my rooms. Havent fired up the T3 yet, so i cant give a review. Remember your floor also. Need to set ypur pots on a piece of foam board so there is a barrier between the floor and pot
I’d say also that depending on how cold it gets in your garage at night or even during the day the Thermoforge may not be enough to keep your temps up if the garage isn’t heated or insulated. Do you have any idea what your temps might be during the day and at night in your garage?
No it isn’t.
It’s probably in the 10-15+ of the outside temp.
I appreciate everyone chiming in. I got a good consensus that I should get a heater. I might just keep it in the house? Are the filters effective?
Im doing a indoor garage grow as well. I second the AC Infinity heater. Maintains temperature quite well and auto runs.
I have an AC Infinity 3x3 tent running in my spare bedroom with a 6" AC Infinity fan with carbon filter exhausting the tent into the room. Can’t smell a thing!
You will most likely need to supplement heat…. I run my lights on at night and off during the day. It helps in both summer and winter to offset the temperature difference that both bring. And Carbon filters when setup correctly will mitogate ALL of the smell
Something to consider is that plants will survive somewhat low temps but even 5-10⁰ cooler than optimal will slow them down quite a bit.
You have to be in a fairly moderate climate to run garage grow without heat and/or ac with success. And a filter will probably be cheaper than heating your garage for the winter. Get a good one and make sure it’s installed properly. Beware that carbon filters are sensitive to high rh and even a really good filter will perform poorly in damp conditions.
I made a man cave for my 8x8 it gets cold here i just installed a pellet stove and its great.
Just my opinion but i dont believe it will work, not with those temperatures when lights go out you’ll be battling to maintain humidity and vpd, one freeze and plants can perish
Thanks again everyone. This forum never fails. I’m around N35 deg lat… Will look into the filter route.
I’ve grown exclusively in my garages, I use a small heater near the tent and use an inline booster fan to feed the tent the heat needed to keep it around 62ish during lights out
Soooo, now the next question would be cost efficiency. I’m guessing the heater would use more but be used less. The filter would run daily whilst the heater would only run when temps are below ??? It’s cool here now but I’ve spent plenty of Corona commercial Christmas’ around here. We don’t stay bitterly cold for more than a few weeks. Hmmmm… more pondering.
@SausageMahoney i grow in a shop outside in a sealed room it gets down to below 0 usually says in 30s and 40 throughout the winter. i keep a radiator heater in grow room i have no issues but i run hps lights so im thinking they put out more heat so when my lights go out i keep sealed off keep heat from escaping. So yes i think you will be fine putting grow in garage happy growing my friend
