From Seed to Smoke - Harvest Eagle's Journal vol. 1

Today I checked on the containers and 3/4 broke ground!

Royal Gorilla still had her seed helmet on so I carefully removed with tweezers.

Mother Gorilla is a little smaller but she’s already making moves!

Fruit Spirit is fancy, already sporting her first true leaves!

Cookies Gelato hasn’t come out yet so I gave her a misting and still waiting. The other 3 got a small amount of water around the outside of their cups so it’s present.

It’s been 4 days since germination began so I’d say we’re on the ground running!

Alrighty, it’s been about a week since they broke ground. Unfortunately, Cookies Gelato disappeared… like, I dug to see what the hold up was and the seed was non existent. It did this the first time(last grow) too. So weird.

Anyway, it came from a 3 pack so I popped #3 of Cookies Gelato a couple of days ago.

Successful again. First 2 germinated too before being abducted by aliens. The real test… was will she break ground…

The answer is YES! This little lady broke ground like a champ! Only problem is she’s rocking a full helmet.

I poked it with tweezers but seems on there pretty tight so I’ll give her another day or so before I try to operate. Fingers crossed… I’d very much like to see her when she’s all grown up!

Pray for mah baybeh! 🫨

Ahem. Since we have all 4 above ground I’m going to call today (11/7):

Day 1

Seems late but makes sense to me to start from the last one… unless God forbid something doesn’t make it because I’ll germ more lovelies if I must. I’ve got comfortable room for 4 so that’s what I want.

If I had room for 60 set up you bet your bum I’d use it! But yes, in any case it’s day 1 on (forum) paper.

Royal Gorilla

Is shaping up to be a fine young lady! She’s getting wide enough that I removed her humidity dome.

Because of this I turned on my mini humidifier and a couple of fans that are high up blowing gently down on them. This will hopefully help maintain some humidity despite the pull of the exhaust fan. All 3 previously popped are now domeless since I’m running humidity now anyway.

Mother Gorilla

Is a little smaller but still looking very healthy!

Fruit Spirit

Is also looking great! A little smaller than royal gorilla but the second leaves seem slightly more developed.

Hopefully the more direct light will help them grow quickly! Can’t wait until I can water normally and begin training!

As of now they got a ring of water on the outside. Still keeping it at very little until they tell me they’re thirsty.

Off the a great start, just watching with bated breath.

For the helmet head seed, I have read to gently mist it a bit, wait then try and remove carefully.

So I went to take your advice and in the 45 minutes since I took that picture the seed became noticeably more open! So I spritzed as you said for good measure and tweezed it right off!

It’s a… almost veteran’s day miracle?

Thanks for the suggestion though! I’m relieved to have her free! Tomorrow I’ll remove her humidity dome and hopefully they’ll all start sprinting for a transplant!

Day 7

Plants are dome free and loving it!

Cookies Gelato is eagerly playing catch up with everyone!

Royal Gorilla is working on her third set of leaves already!

Mother Gorilla is growing in a beautifully compact lady.

And Fruit Spirit is well on her way to a fourth set of leaves!

I’ve been misting around them and on their pots to add humidity with my little humidifier and so far they seem great with that! As can be seen they’re also getting a ring of water around the outside of the cup.

It’s always impressive how fast the babies grow. Can’t wait to transplant them and give them their first real watering.

I’ve got Jacks, cal-mag, molasses, silica, and some amino acids for foods. As well as micronutrients from last time but may not need those.

Then I’ve got mykos for the transplant as well as great white and fish sh!t to build the soil ecosystem after transplant. I think a couple of weeks with those on rotation and then the aminos + molasses (probably will also rotate these)to maintain everything will work out nicely.

If nothing else this will be a fascinating experiment!

Day 13

Plants are spurting right along. Naturally Cookies Gelato is behind but I think they’ll all be good to transplant by this weekend!

Cookies Gelato is starting to get stronger.

Royal Gorilla grew a whole appendage in like 2 days.

Mother Gorilla is looking very nice.

Fruit Spirit is keeping pace, just didn’t branch out as much as Royal Gorilla.

It’s going to be a busy weekend for them but will be well worth it!

Day 17

Transplant successful! Each plant transplanted with mykos in the hole and 1/4 gallon ph’d water with great white in it.

I’m going to let them get a bit taller and I’ll probably top off the pot with some ocean forest when I go to train them since I’ll be removing a couple of bottom leaves then.

For now, they’re situated enough to dig in and plant themselves in their new homes!

Will note though, Royal Gorilla like bobbed her head, doing weird stuff. Shouldn’t be a problem but odd without any training or trauma involved.

Looks to me like the top is the part that’s lighter green dipping to the right. Will be confirmed with further growth.

Day 27

Ladies were topped yesterday and I removed the lower leaves. Gave ph’d water with silica.

Then today, after the wounds had time to heal, I topped off their soil with straight ocean forest. Now we wait to see how much it settles this time.

Strangely, they almost seemed healthier after minor decapitation. I’m assuming it’s a combination of being watered and needing to produce energy to grow new tops but maybe everyone was right and they’re sassy little masochists.

Holidays had me slacking hardcore on the updates. :joy:

Day 51

Nothing really changed until last week. They seemed hungry so I gave a light 1/4 tsp jacks part A and B as well as a 1/4 tsp molasses. (Ph’d ofc)

I also topped again because they had 3 new nodes.

Then I got busy and didn’t check on them for a couple of days and they DID NOT appreciate my absentee father act. Clear deficiencies, most notably pk and a bunch of crispy/cannibalized leaves. Also only grew slightly, so a bit stunted.

Reminds me of Dr. Greenthumb by Cypress Hill “Weed can’t grow without attention. Hello my name is Dr. Greenthumb.”

So, I cut off a bunch of dead leaves and cut the worst parts off of the partially ‘eaten’ leaves. Mainly so I can tell if the problem persists.

I gave them the same nutes but a heavier 1/4 tsp and 2 gallons of water instead of 1. So effectively double - I was trying to be gentle but they were obviously starving.

Here’s pictures as of this part of the story.

Now, today, we have a much happier group of ladies!

Now, that part where I said nothing changed. . I’ve been thinking about about it and I’m full of it. :joy:

My wife pointed out Cookies Gelato was less compact than the other ones and that she was in the same spot as Skunk XL was last time. This made me realize that the led it was under was a slightly different color(even though it’s supposed to be the same thing.)

So I think that light was a bit inferior to the others. As such, I bought a new one and replaced that light. Now they’re all the same and my wife has a new light for her aloes and other plants! Kinda sad I didn’t pick up on this obvious discrepancy earlier.

Also, I’ve been training them by tying with green strings, threading them through safety pins and pinning them to the pots! So far so good and slight adjustments are very easy!

Other than that, I’ll be feeding more incrementally until I see burnt tips or I feel good about the amount. Will also top again when we’re up 3 nodes again! Then we may prepare for our scrog net! As I’m not sure if I have room for more than 8 tops each.
