Topping will produce more tops, I can’t necessarily say if that is something you want on your behalf though. More colas typically means smaller colas all other things being equal.
No stopping point I’m aware of solely because a seed is feminized or regular.
I gotcha. Smaller colas will affect yield by producing smaller buds as what the bigger colas will produce more right? I’m trying to avoid small flowers this run trying to be see if I can get bigger amount an bigger buds than my last Peyote Zkittles. @dbrn32
Not necessarily. Is more along line of thinking that you will have several smaller colas or fewer larger colas. Final yeild will have probably more to do with how each are managed.
Ok the big issue you may have is planting out with less than 13 hours of daylight… it may cause the plant to flower and as the nights get shorter, the plants may stall out and start to reveg. This isnt ideal.
What I do, because I live in Southern BC, and our dark hours are too long until the middle of May, is keep my plants under artificial light and reduce 18/6 to 16/8 over a period of a few weeks. I do that to more closely match the dark hours in early May but not so much that I trip the flowering process. You may get lucky? Then again you may end up with a confused plant? You will know soon enough.
Right, as @dbrn32 said, topping is a tool used to multiply growing ends… there can be some downsides to super bushy plants… less venting through the plant, less light penetration, more possible mold and places for pests to go unseen. More difficult to maintain. More branches to support. As for yield, a properly trained plant will , for the most part produce more smokeable product than an un manicured plant.
I want to add that all types of cannabis plant have their specific skeleton and you have to work with that. For instance, a Thai plant will typically be tall and whip like more akin to bamboo, this plant will not typically produce well if pruned short… it needs to be sprawling and tall to get lots of buds. Conversely, Afghans are typically super bushy and meed thinning to keep from severe overcrowding. So each plant has a preferred training method to get maximum yield. Thats why it behooves the grower to grow the same plants over and over because you will know how to do stuff better after each iteration.
A lot of good opinions said, and I wish I could give you tips for growing in the ground.
In pots, I have to sprinkle a little H20 on the hot days.
I would agree that my indoor girls adapt to a similar photoperiod before being moved outdoors- moreover clones because i find myself planting seeds directly into the finished grow bag.
I only do winter grows for breeding- I once started spring/summer plants too early…then the re-veg…then to flower again-meh. Trying to not cross-mojo-nation the ladies. I know there are ways around it,I cannot entertain those notions due to size limits, neighbors, etc. Topping is essential for me,and I do utilize my growing cages.
Cannabian, dbrn32 -nice dropping knowledge.
Yes it could but also, if you plant an indoor plant directly into full sun you can scald it. Plants need to be hardened off to direct sun.
The wilting looks like lack of water mixed with transplant shock.
For all of them they look underwatered? For the Gorilla Zkittles I had put a little bit of flower organic food mixed with veg food. I had watered all of them hoping they don’t die tomorrow. Topof soil shouldn’t be ever dry outside right?
I am parking in the same garage about transplant shock…I am OCD about moving girls outside. I start with 30 mins on day 1, then 1hour next day, then incrementally until approx 8 hrs in the sun.
Also, maybe a high quality mulch to top dress the ladies?!
I had top dressed all 4. They are getting alot better the Gorilla Zkittles had got taller an has new growth. I got my blue Gelato ready to go in ground but I’m gonna have to take it outside for a couple hours a day to get adapted to the sun. For mulch I don’t wanna use cedar chips right?
Make sure plants are not to stress more stress like topping I would think would stress even more as it looks like stated and from pic it looks alittle stunt. No worries hit with some super thrive or little molasses to help rejuvenate the soil life. @GreenThumb101 happy growing some similar to the area i live. I have my seeds indoors started three weeks ago they are in a tent and will be tranplanting march 20-27 outside in ground. weather permitting they arr 1 foot tall now thriving.
That’s what I’ve been using there all getting bigger an flourishing. The smallest plant that had alot of stress is like its starting over on vegging right now there’s no wilted leaves or yellow leaves all green
So 2 of the Gelato are still vegging outside fine but the Gorilla Zkittles is showing preflower signs but also showing new growth. Daylight is at 12 hrs an going up everyday. Will they go back into veg? The samething is happening to the cbd they both are getting taller though. Any ideas? There not herming at all @Cannabian
They will likely veg if dark hours are shortening. The main concern is setback from having to go from flowering back to veg. It can mutate the plant some and interrupt rapid vegitative growth, this may result in a loss of final yeild by a fairly large margin. With some strains, hermaphroditic tendency may show up, most likely when flowering begins again.
@Cannabian
“Shit fire and save matches,” I have had the exact thing happen to me. Loss of final yield, and crazy mutated growth.
(I apologize for hijacking the thread, been smoking)
Here at Thunderdome I did it unintentionally, and learned a lot. (Part of a project to start early and then mainline the ladies) But, the loss helped me better understand growing outdoors. Basically I learned in order for winter harvest,I need to really get them going indoors and then move them outside, fully joyed and ready to flower. Instead of trying to start the ladies outside from seed. I saw some chopped ladies I had from last fall sit in a mulch plastic tub, and then sprouted during the December holiday… Nature. Found a way. Trippy.
