I like to start the seeds in clean solo cups with drainage holes in the bottom. This clear cup then gets slipped into a red solo cup This helps in three major ways. .
-
Easily allows you to monitor the roots.
-
The red cup blocks all light from the root zone. Roots don’t like light.
-
The red solo cup acts as a water catch for the drainage. Making it super easy to move and position.

yeah good idea with the clear cups, I will be putting the cups with holes inside other cups without holes so roots are always covered from light
I went with paper cups because ill just put them inside final home with the plants still inside as not to shock the plant too much since they are auto
Thanks for the advice

Time for updates
now its a waiting game
I checked umols with photone app and they are getting 310 right on the cups
since i think 5 gallons pots are too small even for autos im getting 4 30 gallons pot ( i Will Be using only 2 for this grow, starting next year ill change room and get a bigger One to use as grow room and i Will use 4 30 gallons pot 1 per plant )
I have Also added extra drainage(expanded clay, red lapilli), worm casting
I Also started a compost bin
I’ll post pics of how its going soon
@Bunger64
I ended up making a journal in the indoor category,
First grow went well still waiting for the buds to dry before weighing them

I know im way late to the party but as i was reading through the beginning i wanted to toss out this trick i turned a buddy onto for his autos. You can take a net pot for hydro (like the one pictured, they come in all sizes down to solo cup size, and slip it into a similar sized solid plastic pot to start your auto seeds, then once ready to move up can stick the whole net pot into the next pot amd keep on growing.
