And I’m gonna jump on what @MrPeat said, I think my last post read a little harsh. No intentions that way at all. Just want other growers to start off on the right foot. I’m kinda unorthodox. At least with autos. I pop, drop and sprout. Then just water til transplant and throw them outside. No transition. But my bad if I came off rude or anything
I’m actually trying something I haven’t done, starting in coco with Jack’s, then going to FFOF, and when ppm’s get low enough, hitting it with Jack’s. I’ve been starting in FFOF, then going to Jack’s, but I have done a coco grow. Just too much watering/feeding for me. Then I go and drop 15 beans over a month
I have never tried that as I still have a lot of my FF nutrients. No reason to waste them before trying Jack’s myself. Which should be the next grow cycle. I am looking forward to trying it as the results is amazing.
Here is my journal.
@MrPeat Thanks again, man. Seriously appreciated, and in no way did I take your words in a negative light. I’ve been in other communities similar to this where it’s niche, and it seems like when there are groups like this where everyone has the same goal, everyone is super nice and helpful. The Jiu-Jitsu community is like that, where I train. Seriously good people. I, too, like more of a Sativa for teh majority of the time, because I hate sitting around and not doing something productive. Always working in my wood shop, on my quads, or gardening (outdoor vegetables). Thanks for the additional tips on watering, I’ll make sure to try and get these roots to start moving outward.
@Borderryan22 Thank you, as well. Also, same to you, in that I took no offense to your response. I appreciate your insight! As for the bubbling water, I totally know what you mean, and yes the pH of my water has a tendency to rise. But, from reading online, this helps with adding Oxygen to the water to help with roots not being suffocated. I don’t mind adjusting my pH, I’ve got a really easy system to ensure the pH is exactly where I want it. As for the pH level you described, I agree. Everything I’ve been reading states to have the pH lower to around 6. The reason I was shooting for 6.5 was that I saw this graphic and wanted to ensure that my girls were uptaking all the nutes that are in my self-made coco-blend. If you have a chance, let me know your thoughts on this. I’m not saying you’re wrong, please don’t take it that way, because I don’t know, this is my first grow, and I’m open to discussion for the best outcome. I will pH down to about 6.2 if you think that would help.
And to both of you, my apologies for my naivete, but what is FFOF? I bought pretty large quantities of Gaia Green nutes, so, unless I can sell that stuff, I’ll be using the rest of it. There is a 4-4-4 All Purpose and 2-8-4 Bloom. I’ve seen people on YouTube who’ve grown with that stuff, which was the reason for my purchase decision. I also added Kelp Meal, Bat Guano, Alfalfa Mix, Worm Castings, and, of course, Mostly Coco (from brick, rehydrated) and some perlite. This was the basic mixture that I saw some other growers using and they had good results. I was just trying to copy them, to be bluntly honest. I figured if I started this way, I could identify issues and next grow cycle improve, and keep going on that pattern. I really only smoke about an Oz of flower a month, so as long as I can get an Oz/plant for this run, I’ll be fine while my next cycle is in-flight. For my Vegetible Garden, I’ve used Jack’s 20-20-20 All Purpose, and I can’t remember the other small tub of stuff I have from them. I also had Fish Fertilizer that I would mix very small amounts into my watering, which seemed to help a lot (but, obviously, peppers and tomatoes aren’t cannabis, lol).
@Adt187 Thanks for sharing your journal, I’ll check it out and follow you!
That chart is for soil. You are in coco. They are 2 different mediums. FFOF is Fox Farms Ocean Forest, a type of soil, where your pH would be totally fine. This is a better chart. Even though it says hydroponics, coco is treated as a hydroponic medium. 5.8-6.0 is the optimum pH range for nutrient uptake in coco.
Website scratched out…
OMG, I’m such a moron… I assumed Coco was a soil-type grow media :face-palm:
Thanks so much for the correction! I’ll be adjusting my pH this evening!
Pfffft, don’t beat yourself up. I was just dumping stuff in a watering can and going my first before I even knew pH was a factor .
Also keep in mind, that when you pH larger batches for use over time, the pH will creep back up. With my coco grow, I would mix 5 gallons of feed, pH it to 5.8 almost exactly. It lasted 4 days, and by day 4, pH was up to 6.0.
FFOF is short for Fox Farms Ocean Forest potting soil. Thus the reason to call it FFOF as its short, sweet and to the point.
I use only Fox Farms soil and nutrients. I have had excellent results using it.
FFOF ingredients…
I then top dress 4” deep with FFHF aka Fox Farms Happy Frog potting soil. This is a buffer layer for seedlings as FFOF is pretty “hot.” What this means is its loaded with nutrients and can take you upto 6 weeks into your grow cycle before you start using nutrients. This also depends on the size of the plant.
Like my Sativas eat through the nutrients pretty fast. I may get 4 weeks before nutrients is needed. Now my 3rd grow in the same soil is finally showing signs of needing nutrients. Three grow cycles as they was all Indica dominant. Now she is hungry.
And glad you didn’t take offense. We have had a few bad apples but they get dealt with by the Moderators. Because all of us want each other to have a excellent haul every single time. Which makes this community very special.
Most of us had growing pains but over time you will hone your skills in growing marijuana. Don’t give up. I was going to pull a seedling because after 30+ days it was only like 1.5” tall. My sister said you got this and I let it grow. She grew to 7 feet. So now I will never pull a slow grower again. I will tag you later today on my current grow. You will be shocked at the difference.
Welcome to the community . It a great place to take a grow:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Ask questions and read! Lots of great information in this form. And even more great growers. You will love it here.
@OhioIndoorGrower don’t sweat their small size…they are NOT at day 14 yet! Only 8 is my guess. Age doesn’t start when you start the germination process, it starts when it pops through the surface. Birth day and Sprout day, gestation doesn’t count!
And your plants look fine, btw. I’m sure they will grow up to be fine ladies!
Thanks, @Borderryan22. You’re right, it is a learning process. And I know what you mean with the pH creeping back up. I was wondering why that has been happening. It’s fine; I’ve got a quick method of controlling the pH now and only takes a couple of minutes. Tonight I made sure to pH my water to 6.0, which is lower than I had ever taken it before. The grow media was surprisingly dry already, further indicating to me that over previous days I was probably under-watering. I gave them the same amount of water as last night and set up some plates with some wet paper towels to help keep some moisture in the air. My little space heater dries out that plate in about 24 hours, so I put more paper towels in the blue bowl of water in there (not in the picture). As you can see I have 2 tents. Both 2x4x7. There’s a Spider Farmer SF2000 in the left tent and the SF4000 in the tent on the right.
Thanks for your response @MrPeat ! That’s interesting. I’ll have to take a look into that more because I’m eventually going to be getting my next cycle started. I plan to start those seeds in mid-July. I like your method and the way you’ve thought out the nutes plan. I’ll have to see how this cycle goes, and maybe next cycle I’ll do a half and half split just to see what the difference is. Though, as it’s been mentioned before, there are so many variables, that it’s almost impossible to compare. Totally agree with you on being happy to see everyone’s grows doing really well and getting super high-quality bud Looking forward to seeing your grow when you post the link
@Flitme Thanks very much for the warm and welcoming response! I’ve been trying to read through some of the other posts here and enjoying much of the content. Much appreciated!
@Spudgunner Ahhh!! So I was measuring the days wrong, LOL Well, that definitely makes me feel better. I just figured it was from the seed dunk date, haha! Thanks very much for the comments!
Here are some pics of the girls tonight before watering them.

I’m pretty impressed with the growth over the last 24 hours! Thanks everyone for stopping by and checking out the grow!
I am on the opposite end…ending week ten on an auto that is supposed to be a 10 to 13 week grow and it seems like nothing has changed in over a week
Ohhh? What’s going on @theGiz ? I’m just guessing, but if the auto is supposed to be 10-13 weeks, maybe it needs a couple more weeks?
Well to me ur plants let ok fine i believe that there throwing down roots thats why the slow growth u can mix 1.5 mls of seaweed liquid to one ltr of water and u can use this on ur plants now u want to give them about a shot glass of water every few days and make sure u water from the base of the plant outwards the seaweed liquid helps with great root production and pest control u will start to see better growth soon u do need to be patient thou ,but saying this ur doing well keep it and dont be discourage the rewards at the end are well worth it
oh I know…getting anxious I guess…still have 1/3 white pistals and mostly clear tichs…but I thought the last few weeks were where they is supposed to really fatten up
anyone use…or have thoughts on FF cultivation nation, coco/perlite?..I bought a bag and it liiks nothing like the brick coco I used before
@OhioIndoorGrower seems like you are set up for success and things are green and growing…just let them do their thing and help out as much as you can
@OhioIndoorGrower Looking good! They’ll be growin buds before you can blink your eyes
