If @Mr_Wormwood hadn’t posted this for you… I would have. I use the 190 proof alcohol method. I’m staying to try my mother-in-law’s levo 2 at my place. Run several batches of shake through it and see how penny I can get the stuff.

@nicholas1 @Underthestairs @ HMGRWN and the rest of the experienced growers that chimed in: Thank you very much! You produced a beautiful plant, Nicholas.
Read this thread through today and learned a lot. Also learned there is much more I don’t know.
My story is similar. Was sitting one night in March about to “relax” and plink! and roll on my metal tray (a sound I still remember from the ‘70s). The next day I was starting peppers and some flowers for planting out in the yard and garden and said “why not plant that seed?”
She grew up with the seedlings under a 4’ T5 grow light. When all the other plants went outside, she stayed in (she can’t be seen where we live).
Last week I got the same kit Nick did (she was starting to smell). The kit helped greatly with that. Side benefit: she likes the light much better because she grew a lot in one week. I can’t help but imagine what she would look like if she had good light all along.
What a journey! Learning as I go, and like Nick have many fits and starts and questions. Plant doesn’t look nearly as nice as Nick’s, but I still spend lots of time looking at her anyway. Started on a whim and now hooked! Thank you again!

I was addicted so fast myself! First tiny harvest was all I needed.

Have fun with it!

I think i am nearing the end of drying now (day 6), the buds are nice and dry on the outside but do not snap off the branches. So my guess is another day or 2 or maybe more. Drying at 24c and ~55%RH

Question: The buds are nice and beefy (few pictures can be found a few posts ago), should i break them up into smaller chunks (how big?)?

I will have to place them into 1ltr mason jars for now, but i have Grove Bags on order (will use them once i get them).

I left the top colas together but subtracted a couple grams for the stem weight. You’re at a personal preference point here

I think i will reduce the buds to a thumb size…

The only way to tell if the buds are done drying is to try to bend a branch and if it breaks = dry, if it bends= give it more time? The outside of the buds is crunchy, but the stems still bend rather than snap off.

i tried a few buds in a mason jar, the RH was around ~60% after about 15mins. I still think i need more time drying and thus put them back in the tent for a bit more drying.

I have a hard time with the stem snapping method. I can’t get consistent. I squeeze them gently to try and get an idea of the deeper moisture. This is the hardest part.

I’ve bagged some of them for a day when I thought they were closer and stuck a hygrometer in to see then adjusted my time as needed

You mean you squeeze the stem or the bud? What exactly are you looking for to decide?

Seems like i will just have to jar them and see what happens? problem is i don’t have RH meter that would fit in the jars :frowning: thinking of just using the AC infinity sensor and putting it through one of the lids. This should work in theory and let me know what is happening inside the jars?

I would imagine that could work. Or a gallon size Ziploc bag.

What I’m looking for is crunchy outer shell with more humid inside. I’ve been under drying (unintentionally) so far. Gives me way longer to burp and I do get nervous about mold. But wife is great about burping and moving things around so they haven’t sat

thats is about what i currently have. Crunchy outside, any small leaves left just snap right of, but the inside feels like it still has moisture.

My hopes are on the Grove Bags, as you don’t need to burp them just put buds in and leave them be for 6 weeks  If the shipping time is accurate i should be receiving them by the end of the week (i personally doubt it). I am going on a holiday in 10 days, so these bags are a life saver

I do have boveda 62% packs, so if i have to use the jars in the mean time i can toss a few of those inside just incase. Or do you think i should use the packs once the RH settles and i know if the buds are properly dried or not?

I believe the Grove bags still need you to dry to the proper Rh first. I’ve been hearing good things but haven’t five any research. I’m not in the market for them yet.

I think @Hellraiser has been using them. Mary be able to steer you.

That sounds like a great idea.
I have also had difficulty trying to use the “snapped branch” method. I pretty much do as @Underthestairs said. Granted that is easier and more accurate if you are a dedicated stoner who has squeezed a multitude of buds.

I prefer a little extra moisture so they almost burn to slow. Then leave our grinder full of shred, so some it’s always ready.

I instead used saran wrap, folded it over 6 times so it’s nice and thick, poked a hole in the middle (a lot easier than trying to make a clean hole in a metal mason jar lid). The saran wrap sticks to the sides of the jar and seems like an air tight solution. I think this will suffice for the time being until i get my grove bags and a few small hygrometers.

I just double checked, i think my buds are as dry as they should be, the outside is completely dry and brittle. Took the smallest of proper buds, chopped them up and placed them in a jar. Of the bat it is showing 60% RH, will check again in an hour or so. Hoping that it will stay at around ~65%.

I am looking into vape thingys, anyone have any experience with them? Apparently a good vaporizer is the way to go. I am looking at Mighty vaporizer.

Also, never tried bong or pipe so will have to buy some of those too

p.s. this is getting out of hand quickly

Make sure you check the reading in half a day… you’ll be surprised how much it can rise of it’s just reading the dry air from the outside. Takes a little time for the moisture to regulate

We got a PAX3 we like it. Doesn’t get you super high. So if you’re looking for lighter doses they’re perfect. I’ve never used an “at home model”

Thanks for the tip, that’s why i only put the smallest of the proper buds to cure and left all the other ones to dry further just in case it is too soon to cure  I guess i will know for sure tomorrow

This is an awesome experience and i am very grateful for the many tips, tricks and opinions i have received from fellow forum members  Special thanks to @HMGRWN and @Underthestairs and @Dankloud who saved a lot of my nerve cells with their quick responses and guiding me through this process  Cheers!

This has been a fun ride. :roller_coaster:
I think I have learned as much from following your grow as anywhere else on this site. :+1:t2:
I am curious now, with all the great equipment you have, what will you do next?
Another grow or maybe a different plant like vegs or herbs? :strawberry: :potato: :hot_pepper:
I remember you said you do not or have not consumed much and that is quite a stash you have now.
You will be very popular with any friends that do “partake”. :smile_cat:

Glad to hear that

I won’t do anything for a little while, since, wife is still firm on this one time experiment  She is very much against anything to do with pot and is trying to make me throw away everything and saving maybe a 1-2gr… I might try to grow some tomatoes or chilies or smth like that but nothing fancy  I had a few Habanero plants and one cherry tomatoe plant in the early stages of grow, but they did not fancy the 18hrs of light

That is true, to put it in perspective - i was given 1gr a year ago, i still have half of it left  But i do plan on experimenting for a bit, buying a bong, pipe, vaporizer to see what it is all about as i have never tried any of them  since i have never tried homegrown stuff i have very high hopes for it in terms of smoothness and taste, as the crap you can buy over here is to my understanding of very poor quality.

I am particularly excited making/trying edibles - never tried anything, let alone make them myself  so i guess i will make my first cannabutter some time within the next week.
