Hello! Looking to prepare my space for some seeds I ordered 3 autos (blueberry, strawberry banana grape, speed bud) and bubba kush. Looking to set up my space. Purchased a 2x4 gorilla shorty and ordered rapid LED’s chilled logic 2x4 grow fixture. Would love suggestions on what 2 seeds to start off with as a beginner, what soil I will need to start off with and best way to germinate autos for a better success rate. Any other items I need to have during germination for my tent set up? Also, would love to buy some honor the plant grow bags, what does everyone think I should buy for my first grow (don’t want to go overboard just want to know what sizes I’ll work with 1/4 then to what a 2 gallon or 5 gallon?) any other recommendations would be awesome! Beginner here just trying to make things work ![]()
I use the paper towel method, for sure go with blueberry! N the autos u dont want to transplant so u wanna put it straight into a big pot right away
@TheAccused Think a 5 gallon is best? heard they don’t grow too big ![]()
I’ve grown the Blueberry and she’s great. I did the seed, paper towel, 6" pot, 12" pot then 5 gal. Never again, nightmare trying to transplant. For me its paper towel, 6" pot then straight to 5 gal. I feel it slows them down while they settle in to their new home but I don’t care. Just don’t like trying to transplant a plant that size. You will need kit to monitor your PPM and PH. I use a bluelab truncheon and will be buying an Apera PH pen shortly. Bluebird do great climate controllers that switch between heating/cooling or humidity depending on what issues you have. A decent fan to swap air out and a carbon filter if smell is a concern. A timer to switch things on and off and you’re good to go ![]()
Good luck and they will grow plenty big in a 5 gal. Maybe not the auto but definitely photos
@Davyg thank you! Very helpful! I own my house do you think I can get ventilation system down the line? What size fan works best have a 2x4x5 shorty but can add height
Agree with blueberry being first choice.
They were grown in 3 gallon pots, stayed compact with dense buds (ILGM autos) Did 3 of them and harvest ranged from 88 to 106 days. Can’t help you with the other strains - not familiar with them. They were grown in a 3x3x7 gorilla (love it solid heavy duty)Germination - best success with water with a little hydrogen to soak a day or 2. If they sprout with good tail I put them in biodegradable pot ( jiffy or cow pot) with good quality seed starter mix If they don’t sprout right away then I put the seeds in wet paper towel (use same water with some fresh peroxide) until they are ready for the starter pots. I like using starter pots because the pot and seedling go directly to the final grow container. No risk of damaging roots. Some will cut slits in the pots before putting the sprout in it to make it easier on the roots.
A tent fan to move air and carbon filter are good ideas. Good luck. Reach out if you have more questions.
Get as big a fan as possible and practical. If it’s too much you can always turn it down. If it’s too small, you get the picture. You’re as well looking at it as looking for it and you’re very welcome
.
Beautiful, very nice.
You have gotten great advice. Not much left to say. I do vote for 6 inch fan And filter. 5 gallon pot good fit for autos. Good luck with your new venture.
I would have recommended 6” in the other thread if you did not say you wanted to break the bank. Just bump my recommendation to 6“. If you have any company during flower they will smell your plants. My plants are 21-days into flower and if I did not have fan and filter whole house would smell like cannabis 24/7.
@bubblehead @Davyg @kellydans I ended up going with the 6in phresh silencer and 6in durabreeZe fan cfm 390, think this will be good for a first grow? Guy I bought the ventilation system from threw in 3 amnesia haze autos, a humidifier, purifier and ph tester for free. Everything was only used for one grow and looks to be great!
@Davyg @Bubblehead @kellydans what’s typical for ph for water? I have a Kengan machine that can run a 10.0 ph but my tap water is about 7.0 to 8.0 ph. Is there a certain recommendation for growing? Thank you for all the help! Sorry for all the newbie questions just trying to be prepared ![]()
@Mirandalilian That’s the way I buy all my kit. It’s dead easy and the extras that get thrown in can make for a real bargain, depending on the money paid that is. Here’s some CFM chat for you. It will give you an idea of what’s going on with regards to air movement.
Don’t worry about all the questions it’s how we learn
. PH for soil is 6.5 - 6.8 for cannabis so you will need some way of altering it. Have a look for PH up and PH down. There are natural ways to control it as well so have a look around here for ideas if that’s your thing. You will also need fluid with a fixed PH this will let you see if your PH pen is telling you the truth or not so you will need to look for calibration fluid. It’s good practice to have some PH 7.0 and some PH 4.0. The jars this stuff comes in have wide necks that allow you to stick these PH pens in, just watch for cross contamination. So dip, check, rinse clean and dry then repeat in the next fluid.
When it comes time to start feeding your plants. When you add nutes to the water. It will drive your pH Down. So you will need ph up and down solution to adjust accordingly. My well water runs around 6 pH when I add nute’s it to drive it down to 5 pH. And I ph back up to 6.5 for feeding .Sounds like you got a good deal on your fan .
