these are mine, week 2, not including germinate week

I leave them on 4 hours off 1. Yes they need air but enough humidity will keep them damp. Or everyone’s favorite word. Moist

No they don’t need open air
I leave mine covered preferably pushed into soil snuggly. This avoids the evaporation. The plants thrive for about 2-3 weeks. I do uncover to check plants but I cover until I see more than 2 tiers. Leaf spread age should not scare you either because they get large rather quickly under this method. The benefit is that with 1 month you will be topping and branching will flourish rapidly.

The plant produces oxygen and takes in CO2. If u have an airtight container on it, yes it will need the oxygen released and fresh air around the plant. It also should have some type of air lightly blowing on it for a period of time to blow off anything trying to land and grow and the dew from the humidity under the cover.

Ah yess moist😁. I got them under half bottles now, room humidity is 50% so should be good.

Update 8th of April 2018
We are in day 8 since the first two seeds broke ground, the other one was 2 days later.
I recently acquired a hygrometer which indicated that my humidity was to low. I put a glass of water in the room and a wet towel in front of the intake which seemed to do it’s job, humidity in the room is now around 50%. I’m using half cut bottles on the seedlings to crank up the humidity even more and the seedlings are loving it. I also hang up a mini-fan that puts a slight breeze on the plants.
I find that watering not very often works best for me, the soil is almost as dry as it can get throughout the whole pot and the girls are still standing upright.
I have a question about Louie (the one that broke ground two days later): she seems to be going a lot slower than the other two and her leaves started curling like basil leaves. Should I be worried or will she catch up eventually?

They all look good. Louie will catch up.

I put all in domes even clones. This was a broken cola of blue dream.

use domes. They work. More humidity in veg. Is good.

But whats the best way to apply them? The plants need to breathe right, so I figured that if I put small holes in the bottles the CO2 en oxygen can go in and out of the dome but this seemed to take away the effect of increasing the humidity.

It will take it away I think maybe just taken them off and let them breath for a few minutes and cover them right back up hope that helps :v:.

You’re absolutely correct about the domes needing ventilation. I use plastic water bottles & drill several holes along the open edge so the seedlings/transplants get a bit of air exchange, but they still get the benefits of the dome.

The holes should be very close to soil level, and maybe only drill 6 SMALL holes (smallest drill bit you have).

Update 12th of April
It’s been a while but there hasn’t been any problems in the last few days. I think I’m getting the hang of how to water them: the less the better it seems. I put the light a little higher because it seems they don’t grow in height much, especially Louie.
I was thinking about doing some LST because I don’t have a lot of space (90 cm/35 inches from soil to light), is there anyone who can help me a bit through this? About when to start and which technique? I was thinking about making a spiral but I’m not sure if that’s the best way to do it. I just don’t have any experience yet.

That orange box with red solo cups is for the two other seeds I had left. I’ll let those grow a few weeks under the LED and then put them outside in 7 gallon pots when the time is right.

I was thinking about something like this:

That would lead to something like this:

Have you thought about scrog? You can make individual screens.

yes but I thought it was not recommended using one with an auto since you need to top your plant.

Gday Baapie, the seedlings are all looking great, dont love them too much.
Heres a few tips to help you out.

  1. If you have large drops of water running down the sides of your dome you are at 100% humidity, this is not beneficial to new seedlings. You really want your humidity to be around 70 to 80 % maximum. 100% humidity is only of benefit to freshly cut clones with no roots.
  2. Try using a spray bottle to water seedlings, always around the plant not on it , especially the stem. Try saturating your seedling mix in a very diluted veg solution before planting your auto seeds directly into their final pot, the moisture in the soil should be enough to keep the new sprout happy for at least the first week of growth and then you can start watering as normal.
  3. Plants need access to fresh air at all times, Try using your soft drink bottles as domes but leave the lid off. This should still keep the humidity high enough but still provide air at all times …
Hope this is of some help to you. cheers mountainman1

You can do some light LST with an auto, just be gentle. Maybe in another week you’ll have enough growth for it.

Ah, it’s an auto? All that manifolding isn’t recommended for an auto, either. Some people will top an auto. I used screens for a week, w/out topping, to control height a bit.

Basic lst works with autos, as long as you keep it low-stress.

Not gonna argue that scrog is difficult with auto. But you don’t need to top to scrog. It would make sense to top probably twice if it’s a bigger screen for sure. But not necessarily mandatory.
