First grow. Close to harvest. When do you flush?

Hello, So I’m working on my first grow and as I get closer to harvest I realized I’m missing one key piece of information. I understand the three stages for Trichomes but what I’m still a little cloudy on is do you flush once they hit your preferred ratio or before hand? So that they hit that mark the same time you’re finishing the flush. I just hear flushing can potentially take awhile at least when compared to the maturity rate of trichomes in their later stages. And being my first grow I can’t say for certain when they actually started their flowering period to use as a point of reference of when to flush.

Got a pic of the trich’s and the plant? Too many new growers cut the harvest short and lose the potential biggest weight gains during the last few weeks.

:point_up_2: Guilty! On multiple counts! :joy:

I’ve always wondered about this myself. Everyone seems to do it a little differently. I waited until I saw the majority of the pistils turn red, then checked trichomes and started flushing once I saw mostly cloudy, in hopes of getting a good flush in before there’s too much amber. That said, I’ve also harvested a plant only a couple days after feeding it with no discernible difference after proper drying and curing.

I flush as soon as I start seeing amber on my flowers/buds. I reduce rh as low as I can, reduce temps to 50’sf at night and low 70’sf day. I then check daily to monitor progress. I’ll drill the stalk about 6-7 days before harvest. I can always extend things if I need to.

There are a lot of opinions concerning flushing to finish. It appears to me most feel this is a good thing, but I am not all that sure.
Here is an old sting I found super interesting:

Good discussion here by folks that know what they are doing. Give it a read.

I’ve been trying. I don’t know if there’s a trick to it but it is impossible to see anything between the blur and white balance. but they seem to be mostly cloudy with a couple clear and amber. Though it looks like maybe the fan was too close and knocked some of the trich heads off? if I had to guess id say im somewhere between 27 and 35 days into flower and 71 overall (out of a 55-65 day strain)

What do you mean by drill the stalk?

So you have another 4-5 weeks left.

I drill the stalk, about an inch above the soil, and insert wooden skewers/dowels. It’s easier than splitting it.
Just don’t ask me if it actually does anything. :joy::rofl::joy:

i have heard lots of good things about drilling stem and most have said it helped their cola’s swell up noticeably, also dumping a bunch of ice on top of soil at the same time to also get the plant to try to save it’s flowers.
