I was gone on vacation I have what I think is a cal/mag issue but, want to be sure. Any thoughts or input would be great. Trying to learn how to read and use the TDS meter so I get this right. It is mainly on the largest plant which stretched a lot while we were out of town. Hoping we can rescue them.
Hi! Only thing I can imagine is definitely pH test your mixed nute solution, and also run off of water.
I battled quite a lot this grow (my 2nd), and one of my three plants is an ILGM GSCX. She’s meeting chopped this Saturday, but yeah, you can see how gnarly the leaves eventually got for me.
Thanks for responding. Sort of freaking out, they seemed to be doing so well. I am not sure my buddy that was keeping an eye on them ph’d properly. I did today and gave them cal/mag 1 tsp per gallon. Hoping to turn them around. I am nervous about flushing them if it’s not time yet.
Also download Photone (phone app) and learn your DLI. That light on a 20/4 is a waste. Your plants are ignoring the light long before 20 hours probably. Wasted electric.
Wouldn’t flush. Just water only. Do not try to pH adjust if under 100ppm (can’t technically).
Check run off ppm. When you get down under 850-950 begin to feed again.
If it continues. Do the sledgehammer. Since I assume it would flush harder. I’ve never used your nutrient line. I’ll tag some people tho. @Hellraiser@dbrn32@MattyBear
They will know better and can explain better than I.
When you say FF Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom at 1/2 strength every 3rd feeding, you mean only once in every 3 waterings?
If so, that sounds like they’re not getting enough nutrients with that schedule. Also, what week are you in? You probably should still be using some “Grow Big” along with the Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom.
Hi. Yes 1/2 strength every 3rd feeding. Just water and 1tsp of cal/mag in between per gallon. I just measured ph in was 6 in and 5.5 out and PPM on the tds meter from runoff was 660, if I did it correctly. I am in week 7 from germination. I put the seeds in soil on 9/15. Sorry feel sort of uneducated about all of this stuff still.
No need to be sorry, we all started out somewhere. Feel free to wait for a few other opinions, but I think you need to feed them a little heavier. You’re doing perfect with the 1/2 strength part of it, I wouldn’t go any more than that, but I think you could try feeding on every other watering instead of every 3rd. And do you have “Grow Big” by Fox Farm? If not, try to get a bottle. The Big Bloom, Grow Big, and Tiger Bloom go together. You can look at the feeding schedule on their website.
Just for reference, I grow autos, and I don’t do any plain waterings. I feed at approximately 650ppm every time they’re thirsty, and then I raise or lower it a bit when necessary based on how they’re looking.
I do have grow big. I will try and add it to the mix. I found out my friend didn’t PH the water which is spring water 7.5 ph naturally. I bet that didn’t help.
Yeah, pH fluctuations can cause problems, but as long as you go back to a good range with future feedings it will be fine. I’ve had plenty of plants with similar problems. It can still be a great plant, she just needs some TLC. Once you get the issue corrected and it’s not progressing any further, you should remove any heavily damaged leaves.
There are some good threads here that explain EC/TDS pens, and how to use them. If you have any specific questions, feel free to shout them out.
Thanks again! I can never read fast enough. I am digging in now on using the meter and what to look for. I just did straight water to run off in the one problem plant so I can try and see what the problem is and get readings. It seems like the TDS reading is low at 660 for flowering. I’m home now and can baby them for the rest of the grow if I need to.
I’m a FF soil grower. I follow their schedule to a tee and never have any problems. I use both liquid and solubles. I also use Advanced Nutes Cal/Mag. I alternate feed/water every other day. So one day I feed, one day nothing, next day water, next day nothing, repeat. I use 3 gallon smart pots. Your plants look like they either have a Potassium deficiency or Calcium/Magnesium deficiency. I would go by their schedule and not dilute anything down. Do you have their chart?
I have the FF nutrient chart, yes. I was thinking a ph issue may have caused lockout or they just aren’t getting enough in general.
I was doing 1/2 strength every third feeding for week 5-7. Which probably isn’t enough. Because I’m feeding 1 gallon in 7 gallon pots every 2-3 days depending on if they need it. The other two feedings just Cal/Mag 1tsp per gallon.
It’s funny because this seems to be the same symptoms for too much or not enough. I read so much yesterday and compared photos with other grows and still feel like I don’t know for sure.
I was using the big bloom and tiger bloom at 1/2 the recommended dosage about once a week. Waiting for the soil to be mostly dry.
So:
Feed 1: 1 gallon water per plant 1tsp cal/mag
Feed 2: 1 gallon water per plant 1 tsp cal/mag
Feed 3: 1 gallon of water 1tbsp grow big 1 tbsp cal/mag
I haven’t done the flush yet.
I am week 7 from seed right now and didn’t start any nutrients until week 5 because I used FFOF. My friend watched them for 10 days while we were out of town he forgot to PH the water it’s spring water naturally around 7.5.
Sorry just wanted to make sure I was being clear on what I screwed up on. Thanks for your help.
