As a result of being an inexperienced grower, these poor plants have been in recovery from day one. The docs said use a good soil and with no experience or knowledge of aeration, figured top soil is a good soil. Since then I’ve taken the advice I was given tried a replant on plant three, the process was almost a complete disaster, but she made it(Plant 3). As a result I manually manipulated the soil to work in as much perlite as I could for plants labeled 1 & 2 in the photos. These are my concern. I haven’t given these two plants nutrients for almost three weeks now. Look at the photo of four leaves. The top two are from plants one and two. According to a chart I have it looks like these two plants have a nitrogen abundance, for almost three weeks all they’ve been given is 6.5 PH water with 0 PPMs. I flipped all four into flower mode on Mar 24. Any advice on what to do with these two would be appreciated.
@Tim64 first, welcome to the forum. A great bunch of folks here to cheer you along the way of your grow. Honestly , your girls look good! Since youre growing in soil, i would get a bag of worm castings and top dress. Ill recommend Coast of Maines Buds N Bloom ( bone meal ) as an amemdment. ( for flower) You can get it on amazon and i would mix 1/2 cup of that into the first few inches of soil and water moderately until runoff. Itll take about a week for the nutrients to atart being used, but right now you look great. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.
They kind of look like the ones in this chart labeled Nitrogen abundance. Somewhere between the early and late stage. Don’t remember where I found it, but it looks like something I’d download as a starting reference. Of course it always helps to see a real leaf suffering from a nitrogen abundance rather than a picture that looks like it was drawn by a cartoonist, a good cartoonist, but none the less …
So there’s nothing to worry about? Go ahead and feed them some N:P:K once a week?
They look fine so far. If you’re concerned about N just back off a little at a time or skip a feeding. It would benefit you to measure the TDS of runoff every now and then
I haven’t had runoff out of these canvas sacks since I’ve started. I’m scared if I fill them and there’s still no runoff they’ll drown, and I put these poor girls through enough. I water all of them a little under half a gallon per plant every two days. The two smaller ones have been getting fox farm’s big bloom. My next fear is running out of room.That’s why I bought the scrogging net. I’m just going to wing this thing to the finish line and hope for the best.
I water mine to runoff all the time - they do just fine. The extra water well… runs off. If runoff numbers are lower than input, you know she’s taking up nutrients (and depending if its too low, you know to up your feeding). If the runoff numbers go below 750-800, you know you need to feed. If runoff numbers are higher, you most likely have lockout.
I have mine sitting on a plant dolly and then inside an oil change pan. I just vacuum out the runoff water after I measure TDS. Now I don’t measure TDS much anymore, I just listen to the plant. BUT I do use it if I see something wrong to help me pin down the problem.
I pour in a cup and move to the next plant and continue. By the time I finish making my rounds, Start over and so on. That lets the plant eat and soil to soak until they are full.
I agree with the others on the watering. I use a pump up sprayer wet the top till it puddles a little then move to the next. If you water too fast it finds channels and runs straight through.
Welcome to the community @Tim64 I am still developing my watering techique but just wanted to say something I’ve learned here from all these great growers, depending on how deep you were able to work the perlite into the soil, it may still not have proper drainage, your roots may still be prone to drowning if not given enough oxygen. Cannabis likes alternating wet and dry. If you can, be sure to pick the pots up before watering and after run off to get a feel of the weight, then you’ll know when to water/feed them again when they’re light.
Also you mentioned FF Big Bloom but didn’t say whether FF was the nutrient line you intend to use once you begin feeding, but Fox Farms has a feeding schedule available you can follow. It is recommended to mix at 1/2 the amounts than it says. Happy growing
Another thing I finally realized is that its also a good idea to measure your PPMs before you add nutes to see where your base is. The water out of my sink is at 450 before I add anything to it. Had to quit using that water or I probably wouldn’t be able to add 1/2
Now that they’re in flowering I’M, using bergmans flowering. I’ll see how they take to that by Monday. If they don’t like it I’ve got FF Tiger Bloom too.
