Do I need to get 1 ph tester for water, and another one for soil?

So, I wonder how hot it would be for the plants in degrees, at the height that is recommended or normally used? Too hot for one of those round fans to cool them that are about 1 foot diameter??? Heck, I have no idea about this indoor stuff, but I am gonna get it figured out… I guess I could buy the tent and the real fan and filter… right off the bat too… If i need to…

I can grow in the green house next spring, summer and into fall, with plants that are mature enough by fall…

Yeah you’d definitely need to have air pulling out of the room and fresh air coming in to run HID. It would be like an oven without a good amount of airflow. That’s why some the HID hoods are air cooled.

But even if the lamp itself is air cooled, it is cooled into the tent, right?

No you could route it one duct coming in from outside going through the light then back out of the room. That was my original plan. Keeps the lights air separated from the room. Only works if you aren’t in a tent or run the exhaust out of the house. Don’t want that much heat anywhere indoors.

Edit I read that again and might have over thought your question lol. If the tent or room is actively cooled it would be ok but still hotter than the room the tent is in by quite a bit.

Yeah, I just meant that if it is ‘cooled’ like blurples are (with little fans) it just stays in the space and still needs to go away. If it is ducted that’s different.

Yeah it’s just a 6" hole in each end and glass covering the bulb so you have to hook duct and a inline fan up to it.

You should really work on lighting your space instead of a plant count. 4 plants can be really small or really big. I think @MattyBear is flowering 6- 9 plants in a 3x3 right now. Anyway, if you get your space setup properly you can change methods at any time without any issues.

I have 9 plants flowering in my 3x3 and range in pot size from a solo cup to 3 gal fabric pots :v:

Thanks u guys!!! I am afraid this grow will be pretty dang small… Not as much sun as I had hoped hitting the green house… Only 3 plants, instead of 5…, dropped one little seedling while looking at it, and think I broke the tap root of another when it got stuck to upper paper towel… Bummer!!! And they are auto flowering, so I can not veg them longer under lights!!! Should have got regular female seeds perhaps!

But, the idea is to grow 4 BIG, HIGH YIELDING PLANTS REAL QUICK, or pretty big high yielding plants real quick, (hence the auto flowers, on the real quick part…). Then do it again, and again, and again… So, if I can only have 4 plants legally right now, the bigger the better!!! In winter, I want to be under lights, so I suppose regular female plants would be best, because then I can veg. the perfect amount of time…!?! Right?

So, what is a good sized tent for 4 or 5, (or maybe even 6), rather high yielding plants? Not gonna kill a plant…, if I have one or two too many!!! lol Can’t kill a female pot plant!!! lol Could give one or two to someone maybe… Maybe!!! I planted 5, hoping for at least 4, and ended up with 3 right now!!! Should of had 5!!!

If the tent is rather big for a grow, that is ok? Right??? If so, then I should get a tent that can have up to 6 big plants in there max… Would 4’ x 4’ be the right size, 6’ tall or maybe 7’ tall? Or is that too big? @MattyBear has 9 plants in a 3’ x 3’ tent, not sure how big his plants will get… Would like to get a tent that is all set up with a good fan, and good exhaust system, and filter for smell…, and maybe even a good light that is recommended for it. If I can get a good light that will grow GOOD, HARD, BUDS, for under $200??? Sure would be great to buy stuff that is NOT made in China!!! lol Not sure if I can get air from outside all the time, not now, I can not! Can open a window during the day when someone is home a little bit, if it does not smell too much like pot, coming out the window…

Here’s my 3x3 right now. I wouldn’t recommend this set up to a first time grower, mind you. It’s a lot of pruning and training to get them to take the shape you want. Mess around with those autos a bit so you see how the plants grow. :v:

That’s kind of an oxymoron in growing. Plants get big with longer veg time, so it doesn’t exactly happen quickly. I tagged Matt because he likes that fast turn around too, but as you can see runs a lot of plants to get it. Not to say you need to or should do what he does, just an example. But if you’re not going to veg long a 3x3 tent is plenty for 4 plants. If you want longer veg times and big plants, absolutely go bigger. That part is up to you.

The reason I was asking is because you can get a really good led light for a 3x3 for $300-$400. But for a 4x4 it’s like pushing $800 minimum. There’s obviously cheaper options, but at lower performance. So you have to take the information and figure what works best for you.

Oh, U like the led lights best? I thought u were gonna say a hld/hms light or something other than led? A lot of people seem to think hld or some other lights are way better, or one gets way more bang for the buck with other kinds of lights. I have no idea about lights at all!!! Why do u like the led’s better for my situation? The hld’s and other kinds of lights run too hot? Or perhaps some other reasons??? Someone said I could grow “really good, hard nugs, with this hld/hms light that is around $110 bucks on Amazon!” Then other guys said, “Yea, but how will u deal with the heat that light creates?” I’m like, “Oh… I don’t know… lol I thought the people that make the tents, and sell the fans and exhaust and filter system, and lights, would have the right fans, exhaust, filter, lights… whatever is needed, for their tents…?” but maybe one has to get cool or cold air from the outside for lights that run hotter than led’s??? lol

Well, I was thinking of getting a tent that is bigger than I need right now, and then I could someday get another light, and grow 4 or 5 big plants in there, instead of having to buy a bigger tent…? Is that a good idea? But, like u said to get them to be bigger, u have to veg longer… Hmmm, the buds can be just as good on smaller plants. as I recall? Right? I think I recall growing really good buds on tiny little incognito plants, and really good buds on big plants too, outdoors a looong time ago. So, maybe a 3 x 3 is big enough… for 3 to 5 plants with decent yield and “good, hard, killer nugs”, as that other guy had said?

Thanks again for all the help everyone!!!

You’ll get more light for your money up front with hid, without a doubt. Good leds are gonna be spendy. In my opinion both are capable of growing good nugs when sized properly for the space. If it were me, I’d probably go with cmh if you’re going hid. Otherwise get into some qb’s or cobs.

This might be the one that guy was talking about… They have 600 watt ones, and a 1000 watt one that is about $160, I think. The I power guys say one should use their inline fan with these lights, but some people did say I would need to get air from outside. I guess I could install a dryer vent type thing, maybe in winter when no one is around though, or something. Someone might see it and/or me installing it, and start to wonder what’s up though too!!!

Let me see if I can find the ones u suggested!!! Thanks dbrn!!!

I had to nearly double my light budget to go led. Which is taking me longer to get. The end result will be more light, less electricity, less heat. If budget is your big concern I’d suggest waiting and spreading out your purchases. But most people won’t and would rather get what they can now. My income I’d rather only buy the big items once so I’m not wasting what little I have.

But only way to actually do that is to make a plan and stick to it. I’d suggest reading a whole lot more to figure out exactly how you want to grow and in what space (tent or room etc.) Then worry about what you need. It’s impossible to start building something without a solid plan in place. Otherwise it’s hard for anyone to give you solid advice. No offense intended just trying to help.

They probably meant with an air cooled hood, which is not in the picture and will cost more and then need the fan set up.

Well, u see I have 3 seedlings going in a green house right now, they did not really get enough sunny days…, and fall is comin up quick here, so I would like to get them under lights asap, and try to beef them up a bit before they flower, as they are auto flowers…!!!

Then do another grow indoors under lights this winter, then probably go back to the greenhouse in spring, summer, early fall, then back indoors under lights in winter…

Ah having plants already definitely changes things. You still need to make a plan and run with it though. Just less time for research. Dbrn32 is the man when it comes to lights. He helped me figure out what I needed so I could start ordering parts. But low budgets and high expectations don’t go together very well. I went from originally planning on $300 for lights to close to $500 now and planning to add a little more to it later.

I could just put the seedlings in this closet not near any windows… under lights, until I figure out the tent and gear for it, but would have to be a light that is not very hot.

Does anyone know if I Power makes good stuff? They make tents, and fans, and filters, and lights too. So I was thinking if they make good stuff… Maybe buying one of their tents and using all their gear in it, it SHOULD all work well together… Well, maybe get a good light made by someone else perhaps… The tents seem pretty good, bracing all made of metal…

Maybe some folks on here have bought their stuff before, or know about them…?
