Difference between ph in and ph out

So as many know, im new to this growing thing and I’m learning as I go. My question is when u ph to 6.5 and the run off ends up being 6.1, does that indicate that I should be adjusting my ph in up by .4 and starting with 6.9 to end up with a run off of 6.5?( hope that makes sense, cuz I concussed myself reading what I wrote)

That’s makes sense, you want your runoff I believe to be 6.3-6.8 6.5 as the sweet spot so yeah I would buffer out the 6.1 by the 6.9 or even 7. I’d say take one reading then after maybe a few minutes take another reading but that’s just my thought to get a good read. You may want it to dry out some before doing so. But as I keep saying I’m a noob learning along the way as well so don’t take my word for it just yet, I’m just stating my opinion.

That sounds right.
What type of soil are you using?
If it is a soiless medium you are already in the correct range at 6.1 so you wouldn’t need to adjust.

@Jmesser80 I’m using fox farm ocean forest soil.

I’ve never used fox farm ocean Forrest so I’m not sure if that is a soiless medium.

I believe @Matthew420 has used fox farm ocean forest maybe he can let us know if it is a soil or soiless?

Run off for soil should be between 6.3 and 6.8 that’s where I like to keep mine.
The Fox farm ocean forest is a soil not a soil less medium.

@Hawkeye_diesel so if run off should be in the 6.5 range that means ph water I should be around 7.0? Is that correct?

Thank you @Hawkeye_diesel

You just have to mess around with it an see what happens. If the plants don’t seem to be having an issue I wouldn’t worry about it, just in my opinion.

Because your run off number was 6.1 you could water with higher PH to bring your runoff number up to 6.5. So I believe you are correct but let @Hawkeye_diesel confirm he probably has more experience at this than I do.

If the runoff is low and you want to bring it up water it with a higher ph I wouldn’t go higher than 7.3 though. If it’s a little high then just do the same thing with lower ph water.

@Hawkeye_diesel and @Jmesser80 thanks for your input. I have been having some serious yellowing issue about 5 weeks into flower which I believe now is a nitrogen issue after some help from other members here. I always ph water in and never run off and I’m pretty sure this is where my issue may lie. From what I understand a low ph doesn’t allow nutes to be absorbed properly

Correct. Here is a PH chart which shows what nutrients are absorbed at different PH levels. You will want to use the chart in the right for a soil mix.

Also wanted to add that it is common for leafs to yellow in flower because most bloom fertilizers have less nitrogen so the plant starts using stored nitrogen in its leafs. You don’t want to give it to much nitrogen in flower because it could slow the growth of your buds which would result in less yeild.
Some yellowing is normal but if a lot of leafs are yellowing it could be an issue.

@Jmesser80 here’s a couple photos, look nor.al or excessive?

Mine look the same and are 9 weeks in but trichs are still clear and advised to wait on harvesting til trichs are amber.

they don’t look to excessive @markaas74… a bit more than normal but nothing major…

I am also a new grower, but I am also growing in Foxfarm Ocean Forest. I found that during most of the grow, the soil has enough ingredients in it that 7.0 water is OK to use. The soil runoff will be lower. However, this changes at some point, and I had to start using a Ph lowering additive to about 6.3. I wish I knew when that was. It was very close to bloom when it changed. Could have been when I switched from Flower Power grow to bloom nutrients. Good luck and your plants look great.

Have any of you had bugs in your fox farms ocean forest? I had some crazy aphids in min it basically ruined everything. I bought some more recently and I’m 2nd guessing the purchase lol
