Res: Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect (g,m,b)
35 ml grow/ micro/ bloom
30 ml bud candy
30 ml big bud
Ph is about 6 at the time of checking. I was told by AN rep that it will fluctuate but that’s normal and to just change res once weekly, which I already do.
TDS in res at this time is 340ppm on my meter. There’s about a gallon left in the res, so I’m about to mix my new res now.
Can anyone recognize the discoloring I have going on? It only seems to be on some top leafs.
I noticed it about 4 days ago and thought the light was a little close, so I raised it. The problem still exists. I’ve seen photos of plants at later stages and I do see discoloring, I’m just not sure if I should worry here or not.

Have you checked to make sure you do not have bugs of some kind? Look at underside of leaves, be sure and look closely! What are you using to keep water free of algae? I do not do hydro, but the PPMs seem very low? I just seen your other pic and it looks like P deficiency, probably from the low PPM!
Okay, so as far as CalMag goes… Earlier on in my grow I was Using CalMag. After speaking to a rep for Advanced Nutrients, he scolded me for using CalMag. He insisted that the ph perfect system is specifically formulated with the right amounts of calcium and magnesium. He also recommended that I use half the dosage posted on the bottle which I’ve been doing, due to being in a single 5 gal DWC.
PPM was low I agree, although that reading was from the leftover water from the end of the week. When my res is mixed, I have readings about 1800-1900 ppm. I use RO water with 0 tds
I have 3 fans blowing constantly as well as carbon filter with exhaust fan.
Bugs… I’ve been very intimate with my plant mainly out of curiosity for this being my first grow. It’s so interesting to watch what changes from day to day. I have not seen any bugs.
I’m giving her a closer look and don’t see any problems with bugs.
I examine the roots every water change. Some weeks before changing res I do a few minute dip in water with some hydrogen peroxide.
Water temps don’t reach 70°f, so root rot supposedly cannot occur.
Is it bad practice to remove the affected leafs? I am under the impression that they will eventually succumb to whatever is happening and they will die off. Are they using up nutrients and energy that should be spent throughout the rest of the plant? Being an auto, I don’t want to shock her too much. I do not defoliate, only tuck
Only the top is affected which leads me to believe a lighting issue. I’ve turned down my TS1000 to just over 3/4 strength.
You can leave the leaves on until they come off with the slightest pull. Basically falling off on their own. Calcium deficiency mostly shows towards the top of the plant in the new growth. It could be light stress as that will manifest in the new growth at the top of the plant as well. If it keeps getting worse at 75% get some calcium in that girl . What distance do you have the light at?
Hello @BubbleBudz, here’s a couple of charts that will give you an idea of what’s going on. I’m with @Eagles009 on this, brown spots on your leaves would indicate calmag issues. I would mix up a spray and try a foliar feed. I have a similar problem right now, brown spots combined with red stems so I’m currently using a full strength calmag mix as a foliar spray as well as a 3/4 strength mix when I water. How are you checking for bugs? I pinch a leaf iff from the middle of the plant and a couple from opposite sides and get them under a hand held scope. Reason I ask is a few leaves have a white speckled look which is on a par with spider mites. Meant to say that I’m in soil and I know my spider mites
The light is currently about 24 inches above the canopy. That’s as high as I can go with the height of my tent, so if I need less light I’ll have to keep turning it down.
I will watch her today and tomorrow. If things don’t start getting greener I will add more CalMag to the system.
For bug I’ve just been checking under leafs and around the entire plant. I didn’t think to put a leaf under the jewelers lens. I will check that out and double check for bugs. On the bug topic, do they just appear the way old food does? Or do they have to enter the grow tent? I do have a completely sealed off system.
I think based on the stage of growth and the light your using that 24" was / is fine. You could probably even get a bit closer as you progress into flower, if you wanted to.
