Hey, I flipped to 12/12 about 7 weeks ago and I have some pretty decent crop going. It’s not going to win any awards but I’m not ashamed of it either. Thing is, it doesn’t have a strong weed smell, like at all. It smells like…something, but not that dank smell we’re all so used to. It’s not a bad smell, it just smells like…I guess like a plant. Anyone able to help me understand why that might be? I’ve included pictures to illustrate that it’s not low quality ditch weed.
If I were to guess I’d say it’s just in its genetics. Probably not a bad thing to have a cannabis plant that doesn’t stink to high heaven. I’ve grown a few that stink up the entire house and some that don’t make it past the room they are in. Maybe see what others have had to say about the same particular strain you are growing.
Agree with Grimman and then just hold on weeks to go (maybe) it may surprise you coming closer to done, My Hash Plant did not have much of a stank until last couple of weeks and then bam!
Some strains have strong terpene and scents and some have terpene scents that are on the milder side
I can’t figure out how or I would edit the original post. While I did flip 7 weeks ago, that’s probably deceiving because I only vegged for two weeks. I know, I know, but I panicked because it’s starting to get cold and I needed to finish faster.
I actually don’t know what strain it is. These were freebie seeds that didn’t have a label
That is the great thing about growing our own. We can veg for as short or long as we wish. We can do whatever we want to, they are our plants.
There are couple of folks that grow photo period plants under 12/12 for the entire grow. The plants just go directly into flower when they are sexually mature.
So, I haven’t been doing this very long so I’m trying to learn as much as I can. I’ve gotten lots of mixed information about the flip. Some people have said that if you flip too early, the plant isn’t sexually mature and flower won’t begin until that time comes. Fwiw, it took a long time after flip to see any pistil formation, and it seems like by week 7 these buds should be further along. That said, it’s kinda chilly at night, around 65F.
Do you start the flowering clock when you flip, or do you start when pistols begin to form?
Most will say wait until tufts of pistils have formed, about 7 to 10 days after flip, to start counting flowering days.
Personally, I don’t worry about that. I do record the day that I flip and track the days just for reference. I harvest based upon the appearance of the trichomes rather than weeks or days in flower.
Time out. Concerning the growing a photo under 12/12. How big do the plants get?
I don’t know because I have not done it. @Covertgrower will chime in and answer that questions.
How large the plant will get will depend mostly on genetics and how quickly they will mature from seed. They won’t flower until they reach maturity.
Almost 3ft is my best answer, but could be more could be less. Your grow may vary. @FishWhistleLabs
Hmm. Wish I had known that but I dunno. I’ll def look next time, thank you
Years ago I had a room filled with Durban. As soon as clones rooted they were put on 12/12 lighting. They got between 2 and 3’ tall. Only produced maybe a 1/2 bag per plant but was really good. Lol
Buds were all small but quality was there.
