CygnusX1’s first Grow - ILGM Gelato Auto

When I use CalMag, I use 3ml per gallon for a maintenance dose every watering, 5ml/gal if correcting an actual deficiency, then back to 3ml/gal when fixed.

I think she’s still behind schedule, but seems to be much happier and showing growth.

Current state of the union…:

@GrowMyOwn420 , tagging you in per your request. :metal:

She’s survived another day.

Also ordered some Jack’s 3-2-1 arriving Sunday to have on hand. I don’t plan on using it unless she says she needs it as I’m trying to keep #1 as simple as possible here.

@Carpenter tagging you from the Grove Bag thread if you don’t mind. Running FF Happy Frog now as well.

She looks great :+1:

Quick weekend update. Still rolling with just RO water + CalMag in the HF soil so far.

Tagging in a few who hopefully won’t mind again…
@Hellraiser @Nicky @Covertgrower @imSICKkid @Arrow

Hey gang, hoping you may be able to help guide me on this one. I’ll be needing to leave this little girl alone for 7 days. I’ll outline my plan (shoot holes if you see any) and the place where I could use a little advice… @Nicky, I know you’re often gone for stretches, but also have a set-up more geared toward this…

As a reminder, she’s a Gelato Auto.

Visibility
I have a WiFi cam in the tent so I can keep a general eye on things while gone.

Watering
I ordered / received / set-up a Rainbird wifi irrigation system. Set it up with 3 spikes and am testing throughout this week to determine cadence and time for it to run while I’m away from the plant. It can be set-up with recurring timing / duration, and I can modify that, or trigger manual operation via the App (its actually a pretty sweet set-up).

It will be sourcing water from a 5 gallon pale with lid with a hole drilled that just fits the line, plus another very small vent hole. Will be filled with only RO water / CalMag since the plant still seems to be feeding just fine from the HF soil at this point in her lifecycle.

Not running an air stone or pump of any kind, which I assume will be OK since there won’t be any real nutes in it. This will be filled fresh the night before leaving.

Lights
Here’s my biggest question mark. I’ve been manually adjusting light to avoid burn as well as stretch. The TS-600 is currently right at 18" from the top of the plant.

I have no clue… what to expect from a growth perspective while gone and would love any and all insight as to what height you think I should set it to before leaving her…

Barring any input, my initial thought is set it for 24-25" and hope for the best… Not sure if that’s a good guess or not…?

Currently running 18/6 schedule. Didn’t intend to change that while gone, but I certainly can if there’s any reason to. I can also modify the schedule while gone as the plugs are all WiFi enabled if needed.

Net?
I wasn’t planning to use it until flower (and even then only if needed), but I do have a net that I can put up somewhere between the light and plant if that may be a wise move to help keep her away from the lights should she have a big stretch while I’m away. Again, no clue if this is a good, terrible, or indifferent idea…

Appreciate any and all input as always.

A net works well for plants that are the same height. If you have one height the net will work. The rest sounds like you pretty much have everything set.

Yes, currently only the single plant to worry about. Using it a a learning experience and to see how this strain / the auto’s do on size (next round will be 1-2). Its a small 2x2 tent for now.

Perhaps it shouldn’t be, but light distance is currently my biggest concern (and is a variable I can’t change once gone) and at least the net would provide a little barrier if it has a big growth spurt was my thinking…

18” is a good start. As long as you’re not gone for more than a couple of weeks, you should be in good shape.

Just the 7 days, but being an auto and the first grow I just don’t know what to expect. :upside_down_face:

She started slow, but seems to be taking off now.

Sounds like a good plan if the watering works out, don’t need a net at this point, shouldn’t grow more than a couple/few inches in the 7 days.

Thanks much. And I mis-typed above, its the Rainpoint unit I snagged. Pretty sure Amazon links are allowed here. Seems pretty good so far, but it will come back out and back to manual watering when I’m back.

Pic later, but I think she may also be starting to show sex already.

You have been covered :point_up_2:…have you tested the system ?..if it does what you want, and does so reliably and repetitively… you all good …:sunglasses::v:

Testing / tuning through out the balance of this week to get the duration and cadence on point, but I’m feeling pretty good on the watering front at the moment.

I was more concerned (perhaps for naught) about the light height.

That’s an auto…I kill autos very efficiently :joy: … Do some homework and read up on the strain, and the expected growth and stretch … :sunglasses::v:

Yeah, I’ve done some homework, but this one seems to be on its own timeline… They’re supposed to be on the smaller side but still with decent yields which is why I chose it. Time will tell.

I’ve seen what you do with Photo’s, and am very much looking forward to attempting to “abuse” some once I get my feet under myself with a successful grow or two…
