Are you like me and love some good redneck engineering with the “KISS” (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach.
Share your repurposed item ideas with us. The ones that you use in you your grow room. Or maybe your grow room is a repurposed item. I know you are out there using an old bathtub as a planter, (remind me to share an old bathtub story later).
I will start it off with what maybe the king of the multipurpose item in the grow room, the 5 gallon bucket. I wanted to move my fan and filter out of my tent, to free up some room. Also I wanted to maintain the correct air flow direction through the pre filter. So I came up a filter in a bucket.
All that was needed was; a 5 gal bucket with a lid, two 4 inch flanges, a short piece of 4 inch smoke pipe, some sealant, and the fan/filter (I used GrowBrite). It all fit together like a glove. Use the bottom connection as the inlet. You can rotate the filter occasionally to extend it’s life.
I used to set this on a shelf in the garage, with a duct ran to it and a fake cardboard box around the fan. It looked petty discrete from a distance.
Pot risers!.. cut the top 3 1/2 inches off old 5 gallon buckets… cut tabs off the sides for airflow under my fabric pots, cut some circles out of some old heavy duty SS screen for drainage (i did this part on the water jet at work) . Cut 2 tabs that i folded down on each screen so the screen can slide onto the bucket top, but you can still lift the whole thing by the screen!
Also… this left me 8 easy to handle 3 gallon buckets!
“Duct it duct it just duct it” is one of my favorite sayings. This is due to to my 5 year old niece shouting out the same in a Wally World but using the actual F bomb.
Dumpster dove a beautiful oak wardrobe that was missing drawers. Lined it with reflective insulation, and here is my drying box.
Sorry all the pics are sideways. It’s how I roll
Agreed, it wouldn’t take a lot to make that into a killer grow cabinet. You could make a clone seedling section where those bottom drawers were and still have storage space above that. Would be great for someone doing it on a small scale.
That was the initial plan. Then a friend grower decided to move and had to sell their grow setup. I bought the setup and made the wardrobe a dry box. i even put a removable top to the wardrobe so i could fit the light in it. But in the end, it is a perfect dry box. Maintains temps and humidity without even thinking about it.
I cut strips of vinyl flashing about 5 inches wide to form rings. I work the rings between the tops of grow bags and the soil. This works great to prevent water run off the top or through the tops of the bag.
I fill my rings with coco, but the rings work great with soil as well.
I guess you could punch holes in the top of the rings, and use them to tie the branches down. If you like to treat your girls that way.
