Carpet beetles in my grow closet

Thanks again! My wife is on her way to Tractor Supply now to pick it up. I found two more of those little suckers in my closet, and another one on a rug near the doorway.

I read it’s safe to put on dogs, and I have 3 small rescue dogs, so I’m gonna powder their coats as well.

Well, she came back with a very large bag that also has Calcium Bentonite mixed in it… I didn’t notice until I opened the bag, but hopefully that’ll be fine. Fingers crossed…

It’s safe to put on animals, in their food, and a TON of other uses. it’s good stuff. As far as I know Calcium Bentonite is an anti caking agent to help keep it in powder. Likely in most DE’s

I use it in my grow tent too. From what I’ve read it’s awesome stuff. Bugs can’t even develop immunity to it like some other more harsh chems.

Not convinced these cause damage to plants. This is my first time ever hearing of them. Their beetles just like lady bugs

Idk that they damage plants either but they are tiny and spread throughout the house like crazy. Pretty sure they bite also. Been dealing with them atleast once a year here.

I’ve seen these beatles in the past in my grow and around my home and they did no damage that i can remember(to the plants). I never got overly concerned about them and now i don’t see them anymore. My wifes friend brought us rugs that had them in it. Once i discovered that i got rid of them immediately. I think they are more of a Nuisance if anything. Maybe if there is a ton of them it might be concerning. Curious to see what happens here. I think i have a post on here somewhere asking for help to identify them too.

I failed to mention im a clean freak in the grow space always vacuuming and cleaning with peroxide. Good luck!

I’m thinking that these came in on a new couch we bought. My wife is constantly cleaning and vacuuming - she’s very much OCD about cleaning. So, seeing these things in the house was a bit alarming. We’ve never seen them before, so it was really odd. Hoping a few treatments of ED will take care of it.

I didn’t notice any damage to my plant, but I’m thinking it’s best to do a wash just in case. The larvae apparently like the dark - which makes me think they wouldn’t have laid any eggs in there, but rather be safe than sorry.

I’m 43 and it’s my first time seeing one in California. It as so cute I let it be

Cute, yes, but an infestation…not so much. LOL

Hey man, quick question. I plan on just using hydrogen peroxide bath, then a rinse, and then hang them with a fan blowing on them before I move them to finish drying out and then into Grove bags for curing. I’m just not clear on how long to leave a fan blowing on them while they drip dry after the wash and rinse.

I know you didn’t tag me, but when I do full plants it usually takes 3-4 hours of direct air flow.

Keep the fan directly on them until they stop dripping/surface isn’t so wet.

Thanks so much!

Thank you for answering @Low. I was on the road to the shop. @Reb
