Here’s some pics of a girl I have in flower. Here some pics of the very top colas. Never had anything like this before. The rest of the buds look normal. Like little Guy Fieris. Long white hairs. It only like this on the top buds.
How close is your light, pics are blurry but looks like light bleaching, from light being too close to canopy. More clear pictures would help tremendously.
24 inches away. I have a HGL 550. Other plant next to it…no issues at all.
Are they same strain? Is the light turned up to 100% power. I’ll tag a few people that should be able to give a little more help. @Dman1969 @Growdoc i think they both use HLG lights.
Good luck bro
Different strain. Both Ethos. One is Pillows and the problem plant is Cresendo. Here’s the Pillows and in one pic you can see the one bud vs the other. The soil is FFOF.
I was almost thinking Nitrogen toxicity just because of how dark green the leaves are. But why is it just the upper buds. All the buds under the upper look normal.
I see it in the third picture, maybe a genetic thing not totally sure. I don’t want to be one of those guys who will give you an answer unless I’m really sure it correct. @Dman1969 runs 2 HLG lights, scorpion diablo 750 and another powerful HLG. In his grow journal he had one plant that was reaching more than the others and it got a little light bleach looks exactly like what you got going one. I agree your leaves look very dark green and kinda shiney. I’d dial the N back before its too late.
Nobody will answer tonight but the 2 guys i tagged will be able to help out. Great guys, always willing to help and super knowledgeable
I’ll check in tomorrow.
Good luck bro
Thanks bro. Appreciate the input.
I run Szhlux lights but I’ve seen bleaching exactly like that before and it was an HLG light too. I think it was too close.
It’s definitely light bleaching if your light is at 100% turn it back a couple notches. The bleached buds are no good if they are white the thc is fried. I’ve had it happen 2 different times. I had to supercrop my top colas. On that plant because it was taller than the rest of my plants. ![]()

Agreed, light bleaching. Taco’d leaves are another sign of too much light intensity as well.
But why is it also happening on the lower buds? Even the top buds on the lower branches are doing the same thing and they are almost 3 and a half feet away from the light. In this pick, the affected bud is 42" away from the light. The bud next to it is another plant.
Definitely looks like bleaching. My guess would be with @Fritzy and its genetics? For it to just be that plant kinda supports that thought. Id snip all those off and see if it reoccurs. Can nutes contribute to bleaching?
Thats what I did. Snippet all the flower that looked like that and just see what happens to the rest. Like I was saying, all the secondary buds look fine. Good thing is, I have the one next to it which is turning into a monster and I also have one going outside which is the same strain as the infected one. I honestly think its a genetic mutation of some sort. The only nutes I’ve given them is Jacks Part A and B.
I have a new to me light this grow round and its not dimmable but i had to raise it due to the same thing.. ive nearly had it happen with my HLGs. Just bump it down a notch or two and it will atop the extra output
Update on the lady we were talking about. Cut all the affected top buds off. Secondary buds flourished and beefed up tremendously. Then one morning, I noticed small webs. Pulled her away from my other plant and yes, she had spider mites. Hit her twice with Dr. Jacks dead bug. Harvested today and washed all my buds. This was my first time ever washing buds. 1st bucket was 1 cup peroxide to 5 gallons of water, 2nd bucket was 1 cup lemon juice and 1 cup baking soda, then the final rinse in the third buck. After they dried a bit, I emptied 3 bucket and gave them 1 last rinse. Hope I did it correctly.
