I have my lights strapped to the bars in the top of the tents and they are barely 26" away from my girls…even the new 600rspec I just used the black cables that came with it, wrapped them around the bars up top and put both loops around the hardware, theres about 6" of space left. I see the manual says minimum 15" from top of tent to light …hoping that’s not going to be an issue
Those ratchet hangers are perfect up to that point tho, they just didnt go high enough for me…or I let the girls get too big…but it’s my first try so
Tent I’m looking at is 6 feet I know I’ll end up feeling like it’s too short but best I can do for now. Hopefully I can master manicure and lst them into being short enough. Bend them to my will
I’m a fan of buying multiple smaller fixtures instead of a single large one, all other things being equal. You can always buy two more HLG 260s, and if one ever goes bad, you’re not going to lose your crop waiting on a replacement
Yeah that’s one of the advantages I’ve been thinking of, plus I’m definitely going to start relatively small-ish and decide if this is even for me. I’m pretty sure it is once I get into it.
I’m a bit intimidated by the charts and graphs, nutes schedules and what not but I’m sure that like with any learning experience it will come with practice.
I just wonder how many innocent plants will have to die in the process.

My tents are 6.5’

Lol no just stating that I felt I ran out of room in a slightly taller tent
I was kidding. It seems like about 6 feet is the norm. I guess some tents come with extenders, but the ones in my budget, don’t seem to.
It looks like it’s real easy to run out of room
What are you planning on autos or feminized… seeds
I have one ww auto on hand, as I thought it was good for beginners (which I guess it is) but after reading the threads here ima stick with photos unless I just love the auto.
I wanted a smaller footprint, bushy plant, but only after I bought it did I see that the flowers tend to be fluffy and light, and smaller yield.
I guess it’ll be a good starter plant to get my feet wet and build confidence.
I am looking at blueberry and banana kush as options for future grows as I’m concerned with odors. Definitely not doing super skunk in this apartment until I know I can contain all the beautiful smells to myself
Gotcha. Ww is a great starter, autos can be a little wierd but I fell in love with em I’m bout to start blueberry auto myself an OG kush auto, my better half is about to chop a zkittlez auto here n a few days an she has a bruce banner started an showing pistils. I’ve done fem seeds an autos. Fem you have a better control over what she does more so over autos. Your height an so on. An you can do a lot of training on fem an reg seeds.
I hear you. And that’s all true. There’s a lot of information to sift through, and much of it misguided. Just keep it simple, be forgiving of your own mistakes, and take notes on your decisions/environment.
You’re growing a head stash, not a commercial crop. Don’t worry about yield as much as the flavor and effect you get. Commercial growers won’t touch a cutting because it takes 9 weeks to mature instead of 8, which is one reason so much commercial cannabis is mediocre.
I’m gearing up for my first grow too. I’m taking a minimalist approach, since I only need enough bud to cure my leukemia and my GF’s bipolar disorder. I’ve collected 3 LED lights so far (HLG100, HLG65, and a Chinese 65w marketed as 1000w). I hung them from screw-eyes in the ceiling with 1/8" polyester rope tied to a cleat made from scrap wood. While waiting for NY legalization, I tested the lights all winter by vegging some veggies:
Yeah I’m not looking to be a kingpin, I just wanted dense bud if I can swing it. Trust me, I’ll be more than happy to smoke light fluffy weed especially if it’s a quality strain, but I’m also a little OCD so as a perfectionist I tend to try to over achieve
@MaraCachafa looks good. I also am in NY state, in the snow belt, and I’m glad NY got on the right side of the fight
Every thing has to match an b in order in my tent, no 2 different ratchet straps on my lights or holding up my filter, I use zip ties so the bars dont get scraped up an what not it all has to be neat
I have a feeling OCD in this hobby can be both a good thing and probably maddening as well. You are organized and have all your ducks in a row, but when things go not according to plan, which is often I bet, you’ll want to pull your hair out trying to figure it out
That’s where this community comes in as invaluable
Thanks community:)
From what I’ve read about our new NYS law, the part about home-grown isn’t official yet, so I’m still being super-cautious. The guv already signed the law to allow 6 plants per person (12 per household), and to expunge records for minor weed infractions, so it would just be harassment if anybody bothered you about a few plants now, and any charges would be moot by the time it got to court anyway. I smoked my first reefer in 1965, and it’s been illegal everywhere I lived. I’m a little too ecstatic now that I won’t need to hide any more, and I can grow the good sh*t and not worry about what somebody sprayed it with. I’ll look forward to your grow journal. Maybe I’ll post my own.
