Bud rot or turning purple?

First wanted to thank all that replied to a previous post about if grow was ready. As a first time grower I truly appreciate the help.

In the photos below, I have some weird coloration on the buds. What’s freaking me out a bit is in some previous posts this looks somewhat similar to what some said looked like possible rot.

I see nothing (green) under UV light, there is no funky smell and the buds are firm, not dry. The strain is called “Berry Pie” and internet bud pictures do show some purple. I started final flush 3 days ago. Temp temp is 79 (lights on) and 75 (lights out) – this is due to dehumidifier heat. RH is 38-44. Good air circulation.

I’m thinking it’s just buds showing some purple , I hope. Maybe I should just chill and blow some weed. lol.
Pics are of bud and 2 scope pictures of area that’s darker…

Hey, if you got this far I was felling sorry for myself because my grow was not sparkling like a f^cking x-mas tree. Then I realized those pics were done w/flash under low light. Here are my girls all dressed up.

Cheers !

I know there’s enough Amber in there to definitely chop them down. Can you take pictures with the camera inside the bud area rather than the tricone microscope

To me the purple looks like you’re taking pictures of the sugar leaves. If you take two fingers and spread the bud apart where you’re taking them pictures and you see dark gooey the creek is where you’re up. If not you’re fine

Will do when i get home. Thanks for the reply! This will (hopefully) all get easier with more grows.

I don’t see any signs of rot, nice purple expression coming out :love_you_gesture:

I still see lots of white pistils, looks like a few more weeks to me. The purple will probably start showing more and more as she matures and ripens. Nothing to worry about. Looks good. When did you stop feeding nutrients and how long has the plant been flowering?

@cc014572 you can actually spot bud rot a lot easier by taking a flash photo at night. Like how yours sparkle. The bud rot would be brown and stick out like a sore thumb.

Yup, I love flash shots. Really shows the stack.

I agree, unless they are older pictures.
No signs of bud rot, only purple expression. Looking good!

Thanks. The other plant started doing it as well. Pic is w/o flash under lights then w/flash. I’m thinking this is her just showing her purple side as she nears finishing and I’m flushing her.

Hi, I don’t have pics of it but I did dig in a bit. All firm, nothing slimy or gross. Guess she wanted to show her purple side. I’ll get less paranoid after a couple more grows. LOL. Thanks so much for the reply!

Thanks! Seventh week of flower, I just started flush 2 days ago and was going to go until she was ready. I know there is a big debate from what I’ve read between flush/no flush but I figure it won’t kill her for a couple weeks. Maybe I can stress more purple out of her.

She will just die quicker, when she could have been putting on more weight and maturing properly. 2 weeks without feeding it will not gain you anything other than saving a little bit of nutrients. Flush or no flush it dont matter but 2 weeks without feeding is not productive in any way.

Live and lose a harvest then they will understand :joy:

So I think the whole “flushing” thing is up for debate in a different forum here. But that said it likely boils down to personal experience and beliefs, I have none since it’s my first grow.
From all I’ve read it’s either:

  • Do it or you will have bad tasting, harsh bud.
  • The buds will still enlarge due to draining nutrients from the lower leaves/stems.
  • You should flush from 3 days to 2 weeks before harvest (depends on who wrote it).
    OR
  • In a study there was no difference in taste or harshness between 3/7/14 days of flushing vs no flushing.
    1. Flushing increased time to harvest and decreased yield

So, who to believe? I have no context as it’s my first grow.

There has also been a bit of confusion about how close I am to harvest. As of today a most trichomes are cloudy, a few are clear, a few are amber (on the buds). About 60% of pistols have changed. Being I hate the sedation of cannabis (during the day) I would prefer to err on the side of harvesting a bit early vs. a bit late. So, IMO I’m going to say goodby to the girls within a week.

I do appreciate all the input received.

Thanks,
Tom

You want nearly all those white hairs to turn brown and recede back into the calyx’s then start checking trichomes for cloudy to amber. You have way more than a week to go. If your looking for a pick me up buzz without the jitters and paranoia. If you were looking for couch lock you have a month or more, probably. If those were my plants I wouldn’t even be checking trichomes yet other than for enjoyment cuz they are cool to look at. You want to press the scope deep into a bud and look at trichomes on calyx’s. One or two amder here and there is normal. To get to couch lock it usually takes 20 to 30% amber. If you harvest in a week you will be selling yourself short. Patience
.

Nearly all white hairs means 90% or more need to turn brown and shrivel up. You are nowhere near that yet. Those buds are still fattening up. The plant will change colors and leaves will die as it matures this is normal its called the fade.

I’ll take your advice. Its the hurry up and wait game.

plumdand, gotta thank you again.

While the stigmas where slowly changing orange (the top of the bud here was about 50% orange) in the last couple days it’s exploded in new flowers. Pretty much all buds on both plants are doing it.

So we’re just gonna let her do her thing.
