I’m using boveda pack to cure and I’m not sure how often to burp? Daily or weekly? Anyone have experience curing with them?
Boveda packs help keep the relative humidity so you don’t get mold, burping is to allow gases out from the cloriphil breaking down during the cure, all that is needed is to let the gas out fresh air in then reseal, i repeat every few days for a couple weeks or more
No experience useing the humidity packs but do you have hydrometers in the jars?
Burp any time RH reads higher then 60% in the jar, once RH is stable at less then 60% stop burping.
I use grove bags now instead of jars and they are awsome, no burping as they regulate humidity inside. Idk what kinda witchcraft it is but they work nothing wrong with jars but these grove bags makes it fool proof .
If you are gonna use boveda packs
Wait until after you are done burping or you are just wasting the them. If you over dry a little put a boveda pack in the jar. Otherwise they are not needed. I too stopped using jars and use grove bags instead.
I used jars for a long time. The first week I burped twice a day. Then put in hygrometers and begin burping over 60RH. Usually as soon as the hygrometers go in most of the jars only need daily after another week to 10 days all are getting close to staying under 60RH without burping. Then I put the humidity packs in and continue to monitor the hygrometers and burp when they need it or weekly until 6 weeks. I keep an eye on them and burp as needed, which is almost never. I don’t remove the hygrometers until I pull the jar for consumption.
In 2023 I tried grove bags, they worked just fine, but for me, the jars seemed to be a smoother and tastier. Same plant, same environment same everything. But other folks have the opposite opinion so…
I bought 100 cheapo amazon hygrometers, the 1x2 inch tiny ones and lay them all out and remove all the outliers. If I have a jar that seems off somehow, I’ll throw 2 or 3 in the jar as a sanity check.
Anyway, that’s what I do, it works for me. I know all my friends LOVE my smoke and some of’m are scared of it. Something about fetal position and drool on their chin.
Thank you for all the advice and help. I’m using a 2 gallon Life latch Bucket that’s moister resistant with a neoprene gasket. I installed my Hygrometer into the lid and sealed it from below to keep the container air tight. That way I can keep an eye on the RH without opening the lid. I’m also using a Boveda pack that keeps up to a pound. I have just under 10 ounces in the bucket. I’ll make sure I burp to exchange fresh air. Thank again.
Dannngggg you all fancy and shite,
I just use old fashion mason jars.
Hey, if you don’t mind, when you have it all ready for consumption, let us know how it worked out. Thats different than what I’ve seen, now I’m curious.
@1LuckyMF I’ll definitely do so. I also have an ounce in a mason jar to compare to. Thanks for the reply.
Update on using a Life Latch Bucket with a 1lb. Bovede moisture pack for curing a large amount (10oz) of bud. It’s been a little less than 2 weeks and I’m noticing a difference from when I 1st put the bud into the pale. Humidity is steady around 59%. Only burping every 2-3 days to exchange the air. Will let it continue to cure for another 2-3 weeks or how every long it needs to get to a point that I like.
