Beginners grow journal ILGM Gold leaf & Blue dream

Marijuana is such a beautiful plant. This one is my favorite of the bunch. Very healthy imo.

Looking great. Starting to bunch up at the tops. Bet you’ll see obvious sex in the coming few days.

@Graysin - on the one non feminized seed, I think you nailed it far earlier than I could see anything. This pic is a bit more concrete. Thoughts?

@Graysin - so I decided to play around with the photone app tonight. Watched a video and tried to read thru the forum. @Nicky had a nice piece. That said, I didn’t calibrate the app and think I need to pay for the “sunlight” setting. Do you have any exp with this? The free setting I was using registered 70 DLI at the top of the canopy. Hoping stretch will be over soon as I only have about 8 more inches to raise light (currently at 50% pwr). I feel almost no heat coming from the light. Can hold my hand directly below and almost nothing. Not really going to stress about DLI on my first grow, but was curious about your option and suggestions.

Below is a picture to the tent and available space (might be hard to tell). Last resort will be to put fan and filter on outside of tent but really prefer not to.

This is the setting I use:

It was free when I downloaded the app, not sure if it still is now.

As far as DLI, it’s a good baseline, but if your plants are happy it’s a more reliable indicator than chasing numbers.

Did a full dose of bloom nutes yesterday. Runoff pms were high on all of them. On one the meter wouldn’t read… . This could get interesting. I wanted to push the limits so we shall see. They looked happy today so only time will tell.

@Graysin - ok 2 issues to address:

Issue 1: few weeks ago I tried tying down the two main branches created after topping. Apparently I broke one but didn’t notice at the time. Doesn’t seem to bother the plant other than slower growth on that branch… that I notice. Will I just need to tie this branch up somewhere to add support as buds grow and get heavier? Anything else you would suggest?

Question 2: My smallest plant has low ph runoff (5.5). Needs to be watered far less than the others assumed it was do to its smaller size. When I water the plants my in ph is around 6.3-6.5. Adding nutes to the r/o drops ph to around 5.7 and I add roughy 3.5ml of ph up to get it to 6.4. Does that seem like a lot of ph up? Does the low run off ph mean I should flush or just try doing 6.7ph in when watering? Plant also starts to droop a day or 2 before I water her. I wait for light pot prior to all watering. Others are 2-3 days between she is 5-6. Could that be a ph issue? Plant on front right is the problem child.

She’ll probably be fine. As she grows, that break will grow thick and “knuckle up.” If it doesn’t, have a plant yo-yo handy because she’ll probably need the support from above to hold bud weight. Won’t be detrimental other than buds dragging on the ground tend to pick up dirt.

It could be. Have you checked runoff PPMs too? I’d be curious to see what the ppm numbers are in relation to pH.

I’m guessing a flush is in her future, but it’s a bold assumption without knowing more.

I didn’t check runoff ppms for this plant (only one watered today) but let’s say they are high 1800+. I checked the ph and ppms on the others and all had ph of 6 and ppms of 1400-unregistered. Ppm going in was 1600. Other plants look good 2 days after feed so was thinking I was in the clear. I believe you warned me of ph drop off in ffhf earlier in my journal so have been monitoring this.

Yessir. Spot on.

If you have any, a little bit of dolomite/garden lime would be my suggestion for her. If she’s freshly watered, go ahead and do a flush with 6.5 pH water til the output is more in like with 6.2-6.5. If it’s been a couple days, maybe wait for her to dry out again.

The purpose of the lime is to topdress with just a smidge - a tablespoon or so, I think. It will help counterbalance the FF’s desire to drag the pH back down after the flush. It’s not critical, but it may help keep ya from needing to hit the reset button again in 5-6 weeks.

Sounds like a plan. I’ll follow up in a few days.

@Graysin - hey man sorry for all the noob questions just trying to learn a bit more about what the plant is saying. Does this mean it wants more light? Leaves reaching up like the picture shows. Currently 60ish DLI. I thought maybe but light can’t go much higher and next setting on light is giving 112 DLI at top of canopy.

I’ve heard that praying is a sign that they’re getting what they’re happy with - but honestly the only signs I’m familiar with are serrations/turning away from too much light.

I think the stretch is done. Gave my week 3 dose of AN nutes and may have been a bit much. Tested runoff ppms in the last water only (3 days ago) and they ranged from 700-1200 so figured was good to go for a feeding. Starting to see some nute burn on a few leaves. Really trying to avoid flush. Will continue to monitor and should things get worse, ask mentor graysin for help.

Nothing to report other than 1 or 2 leaves show some kind of deficiency and a couple burnt tips. Not thinking it’s anything to worry about. Will post picture if it gets worse.
Looking pretty good for day 23 since flip. @Graysin, what do you think?

Looking outstanding. They were quick to button up and throw some real nice bud formations for ya!

Weekly update:
Things are moving along slowly. Still working on addressing the low runoff PH. Decided to top dress with some roots organic elemental which is derived from Calcitic Lime, Dolomitic Lime, Gypsum and Fish Protein Hydrolysate. I typically use AN calmag but will give this a go and see if it helps with soil PH. That said, the plants don’t seem really unhappy so trying not to create issues when they don’t exist.

@Graysin - if 1 or 2 leaves, low on the plant, show signs of a deficiency, is that enough to react and adjust?

Just a picture that I thought looked nice:

If you look hard enough, you can see some lower leaves that are not looking great:

Probably not, as long as it doesn’t seem to spread to other leaves quickly. Lower growth often dies as a result of the plant realizing it doesn’t get enough light to be useful.
