Hi. I live in a house with a small yard, so I chose to grow Autoflowers. I am still learning the tricks. I wanted to grow “low tech” style but I got a good grow light for indoor seed starting and started on February 14th. So far, so good, Since it is early spring, I have been bringing the plants outside in full sun, and then inside overnight because it gets to freezing temperatures here. They seem to like it. One has buds, and may be ready to dry, but the other one is growing much slower and has not even started developing buds. It has been 62 days.
Recently, I have come across various online (social media) posts that say I cannot ever-ever move the plants from inside to outside. It will kill the plant. It will sap the strength of the plant… all kinds of end of world doom and gloom about the damage I could do bringing the plants in and out. The posters insinuate that they are expert level growers, they know all the facts. Why do I think this is BS? I have been growing plants for years, and Cannabis is a plant!
Is this true? Will moving the plants from inside to outside damage the plants? (Including THC production). I think this advice is silly. They are just plants, and bringing my tomato plants in and out does not hurt them.
What can happen is hitch hikers. You need to take preventive measures to make sure this doesn’t happen.
Then you have to worry about cross pollination. Hell you may stress it and make it turn either Hermie and or straight up dude with elephant balls.
Cannabis plants is not the same. Thats like comparing Babe Ruth to Ellie Rodriguez. Ellie was not a good hitter compared to Ruth.
You should either pick inside or out. Master it and go from there. A lot of outdoor growers have lots on problems compared to an inside grower. Just food for thought and you can use food grade Silica to strengthen the plant.
I can’t say about moving them in and out. However, these plants can not be compared to many others. Procedures and goods that work for tomatoes, usually don’t translate well to dope.
What light are you using? These need a large amount of proper light.
Hi. Oh, I know. I used that as an example of bringing plants in and out. The Blue Dream Auto I have is 9 weeks, and has the elongated THC nodules, and bloated buds and I will be flushing next week (week 10). The other one, Gelato has female parts, but has not even started to flower. Both planted the same day. The BD was not affected at all. I brought it in and out, left it all day in the sun, and it is happy. The light (X2) is a 1000w Blue/Red LED with switches for grow and flower. – I am not worried-- they are loving the lights-- sun is better though. I know that the BD is fine and I brought it in and out, so that was my experiment. I wanted to know if it is “true” biologically, if it is based on fact not opinion, if a scientist would back it up. If I am wrong I will change my ways, but as I said, I hear this stuff on social media, and could be talking to a 12 year old or someone who is just guessing. Spectrum is spectrum is spectrum. It is a photon wave. Is 600- 720 PAR the same in a light as it is in the sun (obviously there is more of the spectrum outside). So I would say that outside is “better” light. — And thanks for responding. I may have questions but I am here to learn.
I would just be worried about bringing pests in by going in and out. Jacks dead bug is used from seed to harvest. Good luck to you. If it works for you, then rock on and have fun
I use Silica with my plants, started on this grow. I use a slightly reduced amount from the label recommendations. I started them on it while they were young - like 10 days old? And then I trained (most) of my plants EARLY. One starting at 12 days. Why? Because they stalks get very stiff very fast using silica. I do think it helps to strengthen them. You add it first, let it sit in the water a bit, add whatever else you are using and mind the pH carefully.
Excellent nute additive. Works great and will make the branches super sturdy, helps with fungus and insect resistance, better nutrient uptake from silica increasing the cell walls.
@Honeybunny I agree with you that you can definitely cart your garden back n forth twice a day as you see fit. Neem oil is widely used by gardeners (will handle your hitchhiking pests lol) while your in veg and washes right off. I see the biggest issue is just having to tote them around. It’s work enough every day just taking care of a grow without adding any additional chores to the list lol.
Hi thanks, well it is not 100 plants, it is more like 2 every 10 weeks or so. I would also keep them outside when the good weather hits, but this area is one where it can be both too cold, and way too hot (According to the growing guides).
i love the advice. 2022 April. i am growing 7 seeds i got from panama red, dr greenthumb. note not the original. 2nd generation…off spring that is. i have two window sills east and west, i wake up place i go to bed place, cross fingers and lets see what happens utah
thanks Field of dreams.i have my usual grow down stairs . one white widow, one jack herer, one OG kush, and one bubble gum,all them autos. Im trying to play catch up cause my feburary plants all died,to cold and i did not do my diligents. anyhow last fall my panama red was pollinated. i produced about 80 seeds from a chem dog plant,im guessing. So with all these somewhat free seeds i am trying to use the sun cause i am pretty sure it is free? i also love the comment about the extra work it takes to care for my girls and few boys.i can not get lazy again. i have germanted 4 free seeds and now take them to work with me,putting em in the back of my truck,i do construction ,it has been a mild spring so i will keep ya posted 1961 the year of the dog,
@1961 imo you should germinate wayyy more than 4 seeds if they’re from your pollinated plant from last summer. The male rate is somewhere between 50-70% depending on your luck. I planted 28 last summer in a similar situation, accidentally killed 8 and of the 20 left had to cull 10 males once they showed themselves lol. Your 4 in all probability may all be male or all female? Increase your odds lol.
Again thanks, i planted 6 a few months back and only one was female. a lot of wasted time. they do show quickly ,good call. I cut down all 5. Males that is. What should i do with all these extra seeds i love to start. the dog breeder
