To be clear, I used the #3 perlite for the bottom (1”). I used the regular perlite which is much smaller in my coco perlite mix.
I will add to the whole perlite thing. I rinse mine every time. I’m sure it would be ok if you didn’t but when I rinse it an unbelievable amount of dusty sediment comes out and I don’t want that in my mix. Plus it cuts the dust to nothing when your preparing and mixing it into your medium.
Back to the silica, I use about 2ml/gallon
@Pinboy
I totally agree on limiting the silica until you have done most of your LST.
My current grow is so stiff that training is very difficult. Have broken a branch yet.
My previous grows we’re not so stiff.
This info is money! I have a wave maker in my Amazon cart but I’m not sure which model. This one is 70$ and has a cool little controller but it’s like 250gpm or something. Seemed like a lot. Either way I’ll get it if that’ll work. Also jacks comes with…
- Jack’s 15-6-17 Clone 1 kg bag
- Jack’s 5-12-26 Part A 1 kg bag
- Jack’s 15-0-0 Part B 1 kg bag
- Jack’s 10-30-20 Bloom 1 kg bag
- Jack’s 7-15-30 Finisher 1 kg bag
- Jack’s Magnesium Sulfate-Epsom Salts 1 kg bag
That’s the package I think I’m going to get…?
I’m having a problem now with lst the branches are super strong and I already broke one a few days ago. I wrapped it and has been doing fine since. As far as perlite I do have #3 for bottom and was looking at FF cream of the crop medium. Buffered coco and perlite 50/50. No nutes… and fairly inexpensive. May be going overboard with all this stuff but I want the best possible chance to get healthy plants. I’m sure I’ll use what’s in excess eventually anyway.
I just put armor si in the Amazon cart. Got a ton of reviews and I see a lot of people using it.
I think you have it covered.
But, no need for a $70 wave maker. $20’at the most.
Edit: I do not have this one. Mine not magnetic but looks similar. Search on Amazon for a wave maker for aquarium or go to a pet store
@Brian384 got u covered. $70 is WAY too much. Also that jacks package seems off… I only buy the A and B then buy the epsom at Wally World or whatever… I’m headed out for a while I’ll try to look into the jacks thing but I usually buy directly from them and buy the 1kg bags. They last at least 5-6 grows
Ok. I saw this one. Does it run all the time or 1/2hr every 2 hrs?
@Brian384
I run mine 7/24.
Lots of folks on this forum only run it a period of time each hour.
I didn’t want to have another timer so I just run 7/24. The cost of the wave maker is nominal.
I can only speak to jacks… I run a wave maker type pump in my bucket while I’m mixing. Once dumped into to rez I use no pump at all, it’s not really necessary with the 12gl rez. If you can’t resist and feel the need to put 1in don’t use anything that introduces air, it will mess up your ph. Put whatever you buy on a timer for about 5-15 min/hr… again it’s not really necessary
Pinboy, you and I are two minds alike. I agree with what you wrote and suggested similar.
Do a search on “Silica with Jacks”. I just read the post and good in for that will help you.
If your mind is anything like mine I feel really sorry for you! I learned a lot here and although I’m not really active anymore I do try to help brothers and sisters out when I can
Ok I see. I’m only using a 13gal flexi tank. Makes sense…
Do you flush the medium when switching from top feeding to bottom feeding? I would assume so since the salt build up is at the bottom of the pot from all the top watering.
Also my Jacks 321 Epsom Salt and Silica came in. I will be switching to my autopot soon and have been using ILMG nute package so far. Can i switch to Jacks 321 nutes method when i turn on the reservoir?
