Ok, so I’ve been reading a ton and I have one basic question. Is pruning an autoflower as bad as they say, or is that bro science? I’ve heard and seen some very experienced growers say it is Bro Science, and you can prune (moderately) all the way to harvest. I’ve heard others say it’s a total no no. I’ve got six going now. I’ve applied various techniques to each on to study the effects. So far, I’ve got nice healthy looking plants with good nugs going and still 6 weeks at least to go… what is the real answer.
Many say to avoid training autos at all, but a little defoliation isn’t going to hurt. Keep in mind that defoliation is done to increase airflow and light penetration. If your plant is dense and needs improvement in airflow and light penetration, then go for it. Just don’t get too carried away. If they don’t need help, then don’t bother defoliating.
I think the main thing with autos is to try not to stress them to much, especially late in Veg and during flowering stage. You can do some selective removal of fan leaves during Veg to open up areas that lights are being blocked from reaching. I’m going to tag a auto grower here that can give you more specific advice. @Nicky @Not2SureYet

Looks great, and thanks. I did a little lst and some pruning. I got a tad aggressive with one that I didn’t lst, so we shall see. I guess after this grow I should have some ideas what to expect. I’ve taken notes on what I’ve done and when to each one.
Exactly the thing to do, I was just getting ready to say that experience is the best teacher. There’s so many variables in growing, there’s a few absolutes, but genetics, environment, lighting, nutrients all play a part in individual results of each plant. ![]()
Totally. These are GDP and I’ve heard you can get a wide range of genetic qualities and it’s so true. Of the 6, no two look identical. One is beyond purple, ones still pretty green, ones a tall sob and another is a midget. I’ll post some pics when the kiddo goes to school. Love the learning. Weed Science…where was this class in High School…lol
Happy Canniversary @MidwestGuy I pretty much agree with every one here. I don’t trim un less there is a reason to. My take is un till I get to flower. Air flow is not a big issue. So I do my trimming after the 3rd week of flower. And then some here or there is needed when in flower. For the most part though. I am pretty easy on mine About 2 or 3 weeks from finishing I will start removing all the fan leaves. I am in coco. And don’t feel stress has ever been an issue for me. I do what ever I want whenever to my autos. This is not medicine for me and I really don’t smoke. So If I was to mess up a little. No harm, no foul here. just another learning deal. I really haven’t found any thing you can do with a photo that you can’t do with an auto other than clone it
I could just be lucky too ![]()
Beautiful looking girls
Thank you. I’m still pretty new to this and learn every day. Have had a few hiccups along the way but this forum is great, all kinds of help available.
It’s alright we all go thru it
I’ve learned that you treat them like a lover. Always leave them wanting a little more. Give them just enough to make them happy, but just to the point to where they cannot wait for the next time. Whether it’s water, nutes, training, lights, its the same. Seems to work the best.
Exactly love the way you put it also. You already got the next seed line up in mind
No not yet…I know I’m going to do one more of these but thinking about getting a mixed pack of autos so then I can do 4 strains at once… any recommendations… short, fat and dense, I like it like I like my…well weed. Perfer the actual ladies long and stretchy…lolol…
Well indoor I’m only growing photos so I can have more control and get them nice and fat like you want em. Outdoor I do autos so far I only did northern light and i got say it’s a great smoke not even 100% cured so I def recommend it
Beautiful, I hope mine WW look this good!
Wow they look good i love the colour that is coming in
