OK, folks: It’s the wet paper towel in the plastic bag that works.
I just took one half paper towel and folded it in half about 4 times, put three seeds in it, sprayed it with RO water to get it good an moist, folded it over one more time to cover the seeds and put it in an open Ziploc snack bag leaving it open (they’re about half the size of the typical sandwich bag) and two of them germinated already and just got planted this morning.
So, I’ll go on the record as saying it is easily the most reliable method.
Jiffys are kinda like an alternative rock wool, but for seeds. Although they work perfectly fine for clones too, and so far they have upped my survival rate by quite a bit. Idk what other ppl think, but I for one think they work well and like them.
Wonder if my jiffy pots were too old. If that’s possible. I tried them with some vegetable seeds duds. Didn’t wanna risk with grass. Prob be good for autos
Yup, the paper towel or jiffy plugs have always been among my most reliable ways to germinate seeds.
Remember, they need to stay moist but not saturated, if they are saturated it can prevent enough oxygen from getting to the seed, thereby drowning the seed.
Had the same issues, EarlyPearl. Do the paper towel in the open Ziploc bag. I’m two for two doing it that way. Got two little seedlings growing right now finally.
