Another first time grower with planting seedling question - placing seeds in the hole

Hi everyone. I don’t usually do forums for questions on things but I really don’t want to mess up this project so I figured I would reach out. This is my first grow (outdoor in Virginia). I have 3 pineapple and one white widow seed (all autos) that I germinated in water alone for 72 ish hours. Tap roots all came out and were about 3-4 mm long and I transferred them into their final pot which is 2 gallons and cloth. Soil is happy frog. I was afraid to touch them with fingers so I used tool to move them into a 3/4" hole in the center of each pot. Two went in well and two got placed in a weird angle.

Question is this, a couple people I talked to scared me today about the exact placement of the tap root inside the hole. I remember placing two of the seeds in the hole that the tap root was not perfectly pointed down, but more of sideways to diagonal up, kinda like pointing at the 2:30 on a clock. Is this a deal breaker for these two or will they figure it out? One guy actually told me to go in there and dig them up carefully and rearrange them. I did it to one and a shell popped off - probably a stupid thing to do but while I was in there it looked like it was growing fine, so I left the others alone thinking mother nature will figure their way out. I have them sitting in a dark bath tub and they have been planted now for 72 hours and I’m just waiting for them to hopefully surface. Really hoping that I didn’t screw this whole thing up. Any positive advice at this stage would be nice to hear.

Thanks a bunch.

I’ve put tap roots in all directions and IMHO it makes very little difference. The tap root will find down and the bean/cotyledons will find the sky.

Depth however does make a difference and you want the potting soil light and airy. I plant mine about 1/4" down.

Just my 2 cent’s worth

I try to put them seed down root up. I gently drop them in a hole how ever they land is how they stay. When you drop them in, the seed usually ends up in the bottom with the root up because the seed is heavier than the tap root. Less chance of seed coming up with seed shell still on it, IMO.

They will be fine. No worries.

Mother Nature (or my trembling hands) plants seedlings in all directions, Only the strong survive.
TBS, survival in less than optimum, delays growth and the plant may never develop into a champion.

I’m new too and have read several different things. 24 hrs in water then plant even if the root doesnt pop out. And in water until the seed root comes out. I lost three to mold doing that. Interestingly, the one (of four) that rooted in the water for 24 hrs is my runt. I really appreciate all the tips in the row bible and peeps on this forum  In the 70’s used to throw the seed in dirt and they grew. Now it seems to be a major production with very calculated steps. Im giving it a try though!!

In the 70’s we had a lot of seeds. We are trying to get no seeds, better yield, better potency, quality…The weed then was some good mixed with leaves, stems and of course seeds. You will enjoy growing your own and getting out of it knowing that it is some good s$#%.
