On top of that, my ph keeps lowering, and has been for the last week or so. My system has always had the ph rising throughout the entire grow up until now.
I have so many improvements that i am going to make to this system for the next grow…i almost feel like just starting over bc of my engineering issues from being a noob.
Does anyome have any idea what would cause those 2 issues? Im thinking since its only the left plant, its got to be something with the aero misters on that side, but theres so many roots reaching the water now, it almost doesnt make sense…
And also, just as a wow moment, i just hooked up my new ph/ec monitor and look at my ec…thats a full strength feeding (on monday) in the tank using micro/grow/bloom and overdrive…isnt that crazy high? Not to mention i just put a gallon of plain RO water in there earlier
Yep, that’s super hi. EC and PPMS should be around 900-1000 and 1.8/2.0. I’m a coco guy, close to Hydro in theory. On feeding days do you sample the reservoir for testing before mixing new nutrients? Also PH drifting could be due to water temps being higher or sitting stagnant. She’s definitely nitrogen rich and low on calmag.
Thanks for the reply. Its always ran really high…i think advanced nutrients is crazy high on their full strength schedule. As for water temps/stagnant, its an aero system with a chiller so theres a pump for the chiller, and a pump for the mist sprayers, so its def not stagnant, and is between 65-68 at all times.
It might be an algae problem…im having a lot of issues with my net cups…i have 2 eyebolts on my lid which are attached to hoists. Worked great until the plants got too tall and their center of gravity got unbalanced and they want to flip the lid, so now the lid is always hanging slanted when I work on my tank, and that has caused them to start pushing through the lid, so now i got leaks around the edges of the cups.
I also have 2 other vulnerabilities to algae. One is the water line that runs to the chiller is always exposed to light, but its been like that the entire time, and the water is constantly in motion, so not sure that could be an issue. 2nd one is a silicone tube water level check which does have stagnant water but its only like 4" of water exposed. I dont know…maybe i got light leaks because of the net cups pushing through…i just figured the cold water temps and misters kicking on every 5 min would prevent that.
Truth is im currently designed a much more improved system for my blueberry og seedlings, and i cannot wait to break down this current system. 1st time ive grown/built anything in a hydro setup/1st time weed grow, so mistakes were going be made, but being stuck with them has been a pain in my butt.
Gotcha, fairly challenging set up for a 1st time grow. Water temps and all look on point. You could. You could be right with the algae being the issue. I have a small cloner that I have to tape the empty net pot holes up to prevent algae. Is your res topped off, might be a good time for a reset if it’s low??
I change the nutrients out every week, so its a 3 day old batch. It only dropped .15 last night so maybe its correcting itself. Its just wierd because ive always had an upswing which was good. My ph up bottle was untouched this entire grow until last week.
I think im going to harvest these when im done my new system, which might not even be until theyre ready to be harvested anyway. But now that i got the new ec meter, and i added the light, im kind if craving a fresh start.
Im considering adding an arduino system attached to the tank that monitors water level, ec/ph/temp. And right now i have tubing for cooler lines jb welded into the tank, but this next grow i want to get 90 degree pvc elbows and have them pop through the side if the tank…this way i can either quick connect my tubing to them, or run my probe wires through them. The 90 degree facing down shouod stop water from going up and out of the tank. Then ill just throw a bushing to seal any holes and the entire system can be disconnected with ease. As its set up right now, i cannot move the tank bc of that tubing being cemented into it…
Also want to build up a pvc frame up from the lid. This way my hoists can connect to the top of the frame…the center of mass being so low will orevent anything from flipping over. Plus it will give my plants support and give me supports for fans, thermometers, etc…
Like i said, i tend to go overboard…lol but this stuff is fun.
Thanks for your help man! It is very much appreciated!
You sound a lot like myself with DIY. 75% of my grows are DIY. I stayed with a small closet I built that has been modified and rebuilt 4 times, threw in 2 small tents recently. Kills me sitting on beans to grow.
Sounds like a cool set up. Some of us are born with engineering/creating in our blood haha. I envy the youngins who have that passion…they basically have the world at their fingertips with programming, electronics, 3d printing etc…imagine having all those skillsets by the time they are 18…they are going to create amazing things.
Do you have a lot of strains youre waiting to grow? I got the one im growing now, and the blueberry og which are germinating. Bought 5 seeds…started 3 and all of them popped open after 24 hours, but the one just completely stalled. So i got 2 with their 1st set of true leaves, and the other is behind, so i started a 4th in case the stalled one doesnt grow. Guess that means i might be growing 4 instead of 3 now haha Sucks how fast you can go through them though. Was not planning on only having 1 seed left of the blueberry smh
