I do the same technique with the tent cleaning. Next cellar grow, I will skip the coco peat stuff, it doesn’t retain nutes, Put that crush glass stuff on top of the soil to keep the gnats away.
I tried putting the pots on foam, but pieces of wood worked better. The foam had too much give, and some were leaning too much. If there are a few fungus gnats, those sticky cards worked pretty well, and I’ll try the potato slices again. I was putting the white part down, think it will work better reversed.
Just a few of my personal “victories” with the 60 degree cellar tent growing. Sorry bug-a-boos,
YOU CAN’T KEEP A GOOD “and informed” GROWER DOWN.
Lastly, we had spider mites once on an indoor palm type of large plant. Used to put it outside in the warmer months (in MA USA). It killed the poor thing. Glad they seem to have moved on. Fungus gnats are nothing compared to Spider mites.
Glad that this post was made, because it addressed my concerns real good, and some comments here are much on point
Ratio? Neem oil to Dawn?
For bad infestation , 2 oz’s neem oil and 5 drops of dawn to 1 gallon of good water… apply every 3 to 5 days for 2 weeks… ![]()
For preventing problems , 1 oz of neem and 5 drops of dawn to 1 gallon of good water… apply every 7 days… ![]()

Really need to add a suggested (or proven) dosage with this info.
I nearly killed all five of my early veg stage plants with pure cinnamon oil,
and ground pure cinnamon on the soil.
No need to kill the plants to take care of a low infestation of fungus gnats
(my fault for over-watering), and stronger stuff lile Neem oil is needed for
spider mites.
Hey does smite work good on the plant. just curious before I purchase some
Yeah it actually works really good. All natural too. I believe it’s rosemary oil and some other kinds, definitely look it up. Won’t burn plants. What exactly are ya dealing with ? @gwd
I found these yellow/orange eggs on the bottom of some of my older plants fan leaves. Not really sure if its mites or something else but I’m trying to figure out if it warrants a spray. @Dr.DankThumb420
Yes I would definitely be concerned. Do you have any Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade? Maybe sprinkle the soil and then put a tablespoon in a gallon of water mix it good, then put in a spray bottle and spray the leaves effected would also be steps in the right direction. Can you post pics of said plant?? Are you in flower or veg? Indoor or outdoor? I believe you can use a hydrogen peroxide water mix to spray them down with that will also be effective. @gwd
@gwd It’s impossible to be certain, but my educated guess is that they are a species of aphid. If that’s the case, you can use Green Lacewings to destroy them without any foliar application.
Like I mentioned in your thread, you should take the time to figure out how they entered your space, and take steps to keep them out. It’s also prudent to continue integrating pest management into your grow, because there’s no curative solution if these aphids are thriving in your environment.
thanks @KeystoneCops
Yes they are live bugs. Something needs to be done to stop an infestation. You could use predator bugs like mentioned above or all natural bug solution. Since you are outside its harder to keep them bug free, I see other plants in your background, might wanna check those too Willing to bet they came from other plants around your grow.
Hydrogen peroxide lemon oil peppermint oil these are the three I’m using at the moment not all together make a solution up with either of them and drench the plants top side and underneath I’ve spotted what I think are cannabis specialists spider mites on my crop they type with the two black dots on them I’m fully panicking as I’ve just gone into week three of flower and I don’t know if will make to harvest I’ve read they adapt really fast to any remedy you may use
I’m not really outside but I brought it out the room to take a better pic since the lights mess up the pic. I think I know where they come from however I cant really do anything but try to slow them down or prevent at this point until harvest. once the plants are harvested, about 16 total < 8 being small 30day beg clones> I will cleanse the entire room and most likely go hydro or use another less bug friendly medium. I’m using FFOF at the moment and the bugs only come in at late harvest @Dr.DankThumb420
We are basically in the same position however my pest come along around week 6 of flower, almost the end. I used some Smite on 1 plant yesterday to test how it reacts. I’ll probably not smoke it however hopefully it rids the worst plant of the bugs while I research a bit more. I read that smite makes them sterile and kills them also. Keep me updated on your progress also please @Budzbunny
I will do friend I have posted the problem on a thread I had already started before hand I will be updating my progress on ridding these horrible little things out my grow area or at least controll them so it doesn’t turn into a full blown infestation I’m gearing up for all out war on them
Yeah those things are invincible once they morph. They will keep Morphin to survive whatever you treat them with. They will go from soil as larvae, to undersides of leafs as juveniles, if you keep stressing them out they will morph again and grow wings and fly away to a different plant to try to survive. They do breed alarmingly fast. I also used a product that is 100% recycled glass to coat the soil in a 2 inch layer. When you water all the bugs come to surface, but this method chokes them out and will mess up their breeding. You just have to keep hitting them with different methods or else they become immune. @Budzbunny
Don’t be afraid to smoke the plants after using smite. I believe it can be used right up to the day of harvest. Just make sure you wash your buds, give them a nice dunk and a lil soak in a bucket after harvest and everything will be ok.
