Greeting @Joe1957
These are self-watering basins for fabric pots. They are a product of AC Infinity. They will work with 3 & 5 gallon fabric pots. This is my first experience using them, and I’m very happy with them. Happy growing!
Thank you. Im ordering after I text you.
3wks into flower. I think this one likes the bottom watering. Depleting the basin (+/-) about every 3 days with altering feed/water. Some roots emerged through bottom of pot but nothing major. A slow, steady feed system with no leaks in the sides of pot
This is my 4th grow - all with autos and this is by far my largest single plant. Not sure why - bottom feeding? Only plant in tent? No transplant? I know I stunted growth with previous grows. Anyway, right now this one seems happy…
Bottom feed is a constant supply of water as the plant needs it. I suspect that first and foremost, second being the only plant in the tent. I don’t think a gentle transplant causes issues but a rough one can slow stuff down. So maybe a combination of all, but the watering is key.
Thank you for your info. I def like having just a single plant in my 3x3. First time doing so and I can tell the light coverage is great. And I’m becoming a fan of this watering style.
Thanks again!
Mosquito bits in the reservoir would not hirt the plant at all and sould kill any larva.
H2o2 at about 3-5ml per gallon should work also if you was hrowing in a sterile system without microbes like just coco/perlite or the like.
This has been a non issue for this grow. All good.
So i have no experience with these trays, but I run autopots and I do alot of bottom feeding in coco-coir/perlite.
But from what I’ve read, my understanding is with any SIP (sub irrigation planter) its typically top feed till roots establish and then start bottom fedding.
Once bottom feeding has begun, there’s no top feeding anymore ever.
The reasoning given is once the bottom feeding has begun with the wicking action, the salts go from bottom to top with the water flow and they gather in the top layers of medium.
If you mix in a top feeding, they claim this only washes the nutrients that has gathered at the top back down into the root system. This can cause lock-out fast.
From my experience the only time I would pour any liquid in the top after bottom feeding has began, is if I was flushing it for a fresh start because of some issues.
Im no expert but from what I’ve read, some people use SIP with no trouble and others have issues once into flower…
I don’t know for sure if it’s related but the ones that have issues have also stated that they both filled reservoir and top feed together…
Just something to keep in mind if issues arises once into flower
Excellent information I was not aware of! Really good to know!
Thanks a bunch!
Look into Autopots also.
When I first started my venture into growing this was the method I wanted to go with and everyone told me it wouldn’t work. So low and behold I’m using Autopots which is an absorption way of watering. Autopots relieve the constant of mixing and adding water. With Autopots I only need to refill the reservoir once a week even in full bloom. Good luck with which ever method you decide once you figure out what works best go with it.
Cheers!
Autopots are kinda expensive but imho, they are very worth it. I have 8 spring pot XLs and absolutely love them.
After getting them I ran a clone that I bottom feed daily by simply scooping a couple solo cups of nutrient solution out of my autopots reservoir and pouring it into it’s tray. It was such a smooth run and great results that I just built 2 different SIP setups this week im about to get started now.
This was my clone I bottom feed only.
Obviously doing something right…!
@Willum, Do you think that this system can wick up as much as 1/2 gallon per day?
@Ickey I don’t think so. I’m using a 3gal pot and it holds roughly 1/2gal when completely saturated. This plant is using it up every 3 days. But I guess it will depend on the plant size & appetite.
This is my only experience so far.
Wk13/Wk9 flwr. Fed final doses of nutrients based on brand’s feeding schedule about 10 days ago. Last week was water & molasses only.
Observation of Trichomes tells me harvest could be at least a cple weeks out. So this morning I decided to go with 1/2 dose of week 12 (final) nutes. Can anyone chime in and let me know if this is the way to go ( a bit late if not) or not?
This is after feeding this morning - which was a top feed btw.
Thanks in advance!
Any trichome pics?
