A Noob's 1st Grow Journal

Thank you all for the excellent advice and information. Now that I have a better understanding of how salt affects soil, plant systems, and photosynthesis I’ll avoid using sodium bicarbonate in the future in order to prevent poisoning/ dehydrating the babies. Going to flush the soil with distilled water if i see any negative changes after yesterday’s feeding. Am hoping that it eliminated at least some of the fungus gnat population. Will upload some pictures in a couple days to show results of the salty nutrient solution test

Gonna get a gallon of each. It’s basically the same price so I might as well get actual pH up and down instead of trying to hack it at the risk of hurting my little ones. Just read an article online that said potassium bicarbonate should only be used on plants up to eight times a year, and only when powdery mildew is present, so it’s better to be safe than sorry by avoiding the bicarbonates altogether. Thanks again everyone for setting me straight

Also when you drop down to one plant in a pot give her a couple days in soil to dry up and get some oxygen to the roots before watering again! H202 works but any microbes and other organisms die. You can also collect your feed/ water run off and measure that with your ph and ppm meter to see where your soil is at

Coco you will water everyday with nutrients, until roots build up then you can multiple times a day, always ensure 20% run off with coco to prevent salt build up! Calmag supplemented to your feeds about 4ml/g everytime to keep the cocos cation sites satisfied. Any run off you can measure your ppm to ensure what’s coming out and see what your plans eating or if it’s too much, don’t measure coco runoff ph though, it’s unreliable

I’ve used the aquarium ph down before, but the GH will adjust easier and be more stable i believe!

So far so good. Just picked up some stuff for the next round. Also have to invest in automatic timers for the lights tomorrow. Was out of town yesterday and the lil babies received 24hrs of sunshine instead of the usual 18hrs. The flower stage weren’t affected thankfully, since their daytime is 7am-7pm, whereas the youngins day is normally 7pm-1pm to prevent spider mites, which used to crawl through the woodworking at night and camp underneath the leaves, leaving webs everywhere. The pests are pretty persistent, yet it’s their natural instincts leading them to the ganja plants

All ten plants appear to have a bit more color in their leaves after one dose of the briney deep homemade hack solution. The five in flowering are beginning to show what looks like pistils at the top of each branch. Am hopeful that they’ll all continue to grow stronger each day

Yea looking better mate , for the gnats I’d read hellraiser suggests mosquito bits sprinkled on the soil , don’t let your dogs eat them , very toxic to animals. I’d left a bag of soil where I shouldn’t have and got a bit of an infestation, used the mozi bits within 2 weeks that soils as good as new

mosquito bits work…my tent floor was covered in dead gnat bodies last week. lol

Yea aye bro! Will have to thank hellraiser for that info , a few years ago I bought gnat hunter bugs from a bio company here in nz, was a nice approach but once all there food is gone the good bugs ended up crawling flying around and getting glued into the buds, back then I didn’t know about washing at harvest , smoked a lot of bugs in that crop lol

Right on, will definitely have to pick up some mosquito bits asap, thanks for the good news, much appreciated. Decided to cancel the calmagic and go with the GH Flora trifecta instead, along with fabric pots and nutrient enhanced coco coir. Should be interesting to see the difference in growth, and hopefully it will deter the fungus gnats from breeding

Got some stuff for next time. Babies are still looking stronger each day

Can’t wait for coco coir and no more gnats !Once I get my money right I’ll pick up the other cart and will almost be ready for the legalization bill that allows craft growers license for resale to vendors. If can catch the wave right would present an opportunity for profit

There is breathing room for our souls

Take this out of our hands

Was going hard yesterday. Ended up with self inflicted injuries and can’t recall when where why how. Guess too much of a good thing really can make all the difference
