A job in retirement? GROW!

Building my own light (s) I had some metal halide (4) laying around. A local utility company had a rebate for corn cob bulbs. I’ll have 4, 45 watt corn cobs and 1 120 w grow bulb. I mounted them on a board which will be suspended above the grow. Grow area is 2 foot x 3 foot. Should hold 6 plants easy. I can have pictures a little later. Are my calculations correct?
Thanks for the feed back

This is just one plant in a 4x4x80” tent. You will need a lot of light with that many plants. Way to many in such a small area. Branches won’t strengthen up. You will beed to do serious training or realize you may fit 3 in that apace.

Or go Autos. Welcome to thw community.

OK So maybe just 3 plants? Or how many would you recommend? I can make the room bigger, haven’t built it yet. I thought I had a lot of light. 300 watts of LED. Isn’t that about 27,000 lumens?

Welcome to the community ! One big plant or two medium-sized plants. You can figure a nice plant will take up a 2-foot by 2-foot area. Good luck with your grow.

Thank you, nice to be here!

300 watts is sufficient for a 2x3, but if you have corn cob lights not all of those watts are going to make to to the plant.

Plain old LED if fine for vegetative growth, but you will want red spectrum when you get to flowering and will need to look into better lighting.

2 is aggressive for a 2x3, but many people do it in a 2x4. Learn how to train your plants to manage the space they take up.

thank you. Will do

OK first blunder. My room is 4 foot by 4 foot. I was planning on using lights that are on a board 2 foot by 3 foot. So, maybe 2 plants in this area. Before flowering, I’ll get some red LED’s This fix this first hurdle? Oh my, I’m going to have the questions as this progresses.

I’d recommend quality LEDs intended for growing cannabis so you get the proper light spectrum. Whatever you do, stay away from the Amazon “burple” lights. The claims made by the manufacturers of these lights are very are exaggerated, and you end up getting about a third of what you’ve been told by them, and it often isn’t the proper spectrum, which leads to the growth of weak and airy buds. Most of us made the mistake of buying them when we started (self included.)

CMH lighting is good, as are those made by Horticulture Lighting Group. A lot of the folks here run Budget LED and like them too.
