But I agree with everyone else. I don’t see a dead plant, except where it was ripped out of the coco in search of roots.
I’ll be 100% with you, the way you seem to need to see results from above and below ground, you’ll be better off in a 100% hydroponic set up. You can see the roots any time you want to lift the net pot and it won’t disrupt your grow cycle.
Not at all. Plant died bro. Nutrients were too much for it. Far more concerned why my roots never developed. Every grow I get no roots. No idea why. Tried everything. The roots never develop. It’s like you need to have a special pass to grow these things.
Exactly. Same technique as we all use. For whatever reasons I keep getting a 180 opposite result root wise. The other issues I was able to understand and fix. Now I kinda have to go back to square one again. I know how roots grow but when I execute the same technique I get no result for whatever reasons. I use the same tools as well. Same measurements. Really bizarre behavior. Same same never results in a different outcome.
A gallon air pot should be full of roots. I barely had enough to fill a shot glass. Major fail.
Anything in life you attempt to do requires experience to be good at it. I have no experience whatsoever and it shows. But the part that frustrates me is that I am at least smart enough to acknowledge what I don’t know. Thus my appearance on this board. Yet, in spite of all the help I find myself exactly where I started.
Who am I fooling? It’d be like one of you guys trying to enter my world. You can want to be an engineer all you want. You can never thrive without years of study and experience. This is no different. With that I respectfully leave it to those that are far more talented and able to grow than I. I couldn’t grow a blade of grass.
My journey as a grower has officially ended. Thank you to all who tried to help. It is now clear I do not have the talent nor ability to grow anything. No shame in that.
I possibly may have found the culprit??? You started them in air pots as in fabric? Could the roots have grown into the fabric if so and were torn during transplant? Most, including myself germ and leave in a solo cup for 12-14 days and covered with a clear dome. About the 4th day of breaking ground I start the circle of life (a little ring of water) around the outside of the solo cup. After that 2 weeks is when they go in their forever home, for me it’s 2.5 gallon fab pots.
Nope. My first grow I tried in fabric pots. Same result. Transplant was super easy. The Coco stayed solid. I just plopped it down in the 5 gallon and kept going. Zero stunting. However, when they were in the smaller seedling pots the roots never developed in spite of the plant appearing to grow. The roots were not. That same theme has played out six straight grows. I have no understanding of how to correct it even after trying every suggestion on this board. The problem is me. I am either not interpreting what I am reading correctly or inadvertently killing my own grows. I cannot trust my own judgement. When you get into that spot you’re in BIG TROUBLE. Second time I’ve felt that way.
I’m real big on rules, instructions and following them to the letter. Still the same result even after making changes proposed by those with more experience. The common denominator is me. Something I am doing is wrong. So wrong it kills my grows. What that is I have no idea nor do I even care to pursue anymore at this point. No shame in that. I just don’t have what it takes to make the team. Get over it and keep it pushin. All good.
We’re not going to let you quit my friend! Don’t take this the wrong way and I wait with several design Engineers in the construction industry. Most of them over-think and design, not saying you do. Take a step back, try a different approach. This is only the way I start each grow.
-soak seed for 24 hours, I just use plain old tap.
-wrap them in a moist paper towel and seal them up in a zip lock bag for 24-36 more hours. Bingo at least a 3/4” tail.
-into a solo cup of coco or soil covered with a clear solo cup. I like FF, seems to have the right ingredients to grow well into week 4 with water only.
-12-14 days later I put them in their forever home.
Lighting is critical and I use a T5 fluorescent light for the 1st 2 weeks. My other lighting is adjusted by growth stage as well as starting a nutrient feeding schedule. I know you’ve had bigger challenges in the Engineering field
The picture shows a green plant. It might have been droopy or in decline but it’s something I would have kept around. As for root development don’t worry so much about it. If the plant looks happy and healthy why worry about the roots? Get nursery bags fill them up with coco feel the weight then put some water in to make it damp and check weight again. You will feel the difference. Take your already soaked seed and drop it in the nursery bag cover it with clear plastic dome and wait. Don’t water for a couple days. Water a little towards the edges of the bag. After a few days you will see roots poking through the bottom. That is when the time comes drop the whole nursery bag into the final pot and continue growing. I wouldn’t quit just adjust what you are doing.
