New question regarding coir. Getting my soil ready & reading of possibility of needing to soak to remove salt. If this is case how long?
I’m gonna do a 1/3 coir, 10% perlite , 1/3worm castings (do I need to do anything with it before mixing) and organic soil with a .07% nitro.
New to indoor growing appreciate the help.

@Laurap the Coco and perlite are soilless and if you mix that with soil you could be setting yourself up for pH issues. Soilless medium is a pH of 5.8 and soil is 6.5 if you mix them together like that I think you’d have to consider that entire mix soilless?

Not sure on that but maintaining a proper pH on indoor grows is very important!

I thought you would mix perlite to help retain mosture and other for making soil light.
So I need to use one product or another, not in combination?

No, I believe you are doing fine but flushing the coir will raise the ph to a more useful range. I think I would simply rinse in ph neutral water and monitor the outflow until the ph is above 6.3. Then mix your soil. I will be interested in your recipe.

I also read of adding a pocket of more concentrated nutrients that the plant can hunt for as it grows. I may try that too.

Thanks, newbie here, so gotta ask questions. wanted to use bat guanna but hubby says no.
I’m more of a purist, hubby just wants me to stop spending money and grow. Lol

PS. Do I just check runnoff for pH?

Yeah, I would place the container in a pan when I’m ready to take a sample and capture some runoff.
