1st time grow, how does it look?

1st time grower here. Can someone tell me how my first grow is doing? It’s been about 12 weeks. Looks leggy to me, and I’m not sure if you can determine if it’s a male or female yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It is. Better lighting will resolve that. What are you using to light the plant currently and do you have a budget for a light that will provide better results for you.

Looks healthy but as mentioned above she needs more light. If she is a photo no issue. Top her butt and give her more light and she will bush out. If auto start pounding her with all you have. Lower weak lights as close to top as heat allows. Just my thoughts. Cannabis can take a tremendous amount of light. The heat at canopy tends to be more of an issue than amount of light given in my opinion. I personally hit them pretty darn hard. 3 es300 in a 5x5 90%.

Just realized 12 weeks in. Photo. Do not flower her yet i suggest. Treat her as a mother plant for clones. Drop lights lower. Top her and veg her out. See about a 200 watt light at least. Nothing with a bloom switch. Prefer samsung but philips and some others make satisfactory low-mid range diodes at a lower price point in a clutch. But to be honest investing in a good light trumps every other piece of gear in the grow.

I agree with the others so far, looks healthy and happy.

Cannabis needs light levels that would fry most other crops. As others have said, more light intensity will transform you plant and give you a great harvest.
Some people grow them like house plants but they get a small harvest like less then 1oz at times.
A proper grow light that cost about the price of 1oz of bud, would give you the ability to harvest 4-16 oz at a time, so it would pay for its self several times over with yours first harvest

Thank you for this! Can you give me an idea of what light I should get? Is there one on Amazon you can reference for me? That would be huge.

Many like HLG. I do also but some real contenders out there at lower price point. Ac infinity has a light out i believe. @MeEasy is sponsored by a couple light makers and can suggest a lower priced model if budget is very tight. Full spectrum/dimmable and more than you need is the way I would go. Samsung 301b or H …little noticable difference…are considered the standard. HLG will be a guaranteed top bin diode. They run 53v vs the 48v others use. They are not budget friendly but will be the last light you need for 8 years or so unless go bigger. Also bar style lights are coming into focus and some great options out there. A little research will give you an idea of needs. @dbrn32 if I remember correct is a light guy also. Dont come around much lately so forget. Old.

Mars Hydro and Spider Farmer are building decent lights built with Samsung LM301 series diodes these days. It takes ~200 watts to effectively flower a medium sized indoor plant.

There are a lot of lighting scams on Amazon. To avoid them, stay away from lights that output a purple colored light, have integrated fans, have veg and bloom switches, and most models that have a daisy-chain capability. Stick with lights built with LM301 series diodes and you wil be fine.

Look into HLG refurbs as well. Find good deals on those all the time. This 20% off code might still work.

So 2 big question to ask yourself when picking a light.
How much can you afford and how much would you like to harvest at a time? Like a few onces or over a pound?

Hlg is great, spiderfarmer is awsome for “budget lights” if you can even call them that now, spiderfarmer has a good reputation to good lights, marshydro makes some good stuff for budget lights and many others nowadays.

Is something like this sufficient for good growth?

I got sucked into the amazon cheap blurple light too and quickly learned it wouldn’t be enough so in my budget I finally went with the Spider Farmer SF2000 and amazon has a $40 coupon on it too. First grow as well so I can’t personally speak for performance yet.

That should get you through flower on a couple plants.

Sf1000 will work for antique growth of 1 plant. The sf2000 would do great for 2 plants.
I have a sf2000 and it has yeilded me 8oz+ each grow.
I have a spiderfarmer se3000 that yields 16oz+ each grow.
Try searching places like Facebook marketplace or whatever 2nd hand options you have available to you where ever you live.

I have several lights and other equipment I’ve gotten super cheap used. Lots of people buy a bunch of stuff, try to grow and fail or lose interest, and sale their equipment cheap
Really good chance you could find a nice used light for that same $100 or so :+1:
