1st grow - Og kush auto

First time grower. Plant is 6 days above ground. It spent the first 24 hrs with its seed casing completely covering the cotyledons, then I removed it. I didn’t seem to do any damage. I’m anxious for the thing to grow more. I have seen progress every day, seems like a second set of real leaves are coming in. It’s a little over 2 inches tall at this point and the first true leaves are 3/4 inches long each. I have a spider farmer se3000 300w light set to 22% at 24 inches away. RH is between 55-65. Temp is between 75-77F. Using fox farms coco loco/happy frog. Idk it seems to have a healthy color. But what do y’all think. I’ve tried to include some pics but this is my first post idk if they’ll come through.

Welcome to the community @NewGrower31 This is a great place to hang out if and when you have time. I say that because I don’t spend as much time here as I’d like to.

Your plant looks good and healthy, you’re doing great so far!

One thing, try to water out away from the stem a little, in a circle just outside the tips of the leaves. Make the roots search out the water a little, helps them develop and lessens the chance of the stem damping off. Happy growing. :victory_hand:

Edit: How bold of me to offer my opinion when it wasn’t even asked for. You could have done just like I suggest and by the time the pic was taken to topsoil had absorbed inward. So if I spoke too soon, just ignore me. Again, welcome aboard!

Hey no worries. I’ll take any advice I can get. I’ve done quite a bit of reading and watching YouTube. I watered in a circle kind of how you said but I definitely worked my way in towards the seedling, trying to make sure the whole circle was watered. Next time I will leave that bit of dry space in the center around the plant. Watering has been the thing stressing me the most. I’ve heard it’s not so much the quantity but the frequency. I waited approx 75 hours after the first watering to water again. The soil was “mostly” dry when I did the second watering. I maybe could have waited another day but idk. I’m just nervous it’s going to stunt and be some tiny plant that only yields a joint or so. Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen. I’m hoping that it really starts growing soon.

Overwatering is a common error among new growers, and sometimes experienced too. I don’t consider myself a pro by no means, I can only advise from what I’ve experienced and from what knowledge my old mind wants to retain from what I’ve read. And retention is waning more and more these days.

75 days is good. My average these days is only about 50 to 100 ml in a 2 liter bottle circle about every 3rd or 4th day for the first few waterings. But also just to add, this is when I have put the seed directly in the final pot, and I am using 5 gal fabric pots. I am growing organic and I don’t want my soil to dry out and my bio-zone to die. So along with the 50 - 100 ml, I’m taking 16 fluid oz or so and watering in a large circle at the grow bag’s outer perimeter to keep the bottom moist. Then after the first few waterings, I start stepping up the 50 - 100 ml quantity to like 48oz and usually stop watering the outer perimeter at the same time. But this technique is just what I do to give you an idea.

And like I was saying, I’m using fabric grow bags and once I start watering with any measurable quantity of water, I go by the weight of the pot and the signs from the plant as to when to water after that. That may be a little difficult using a bin. Do you have holes drilled in the bin for aeration? Do you know what strain you have? Is she an auto or photoperiod?

Ha! It would help if I paid attention or stopped partaking in my last harvest! It’s right there in your topic title.

@NewGrower31 , welcome to our happy place, lots of great folks here that will help in any way and want to see you succeed. @d-Jawz already gave you great advice on watering, the most common problem most growers have at first. Once they get roots out the bottom, you can start full waterings, then let dry back before next watering. Check out a few journals and you will get a feel for other growers who are in like media and conditions. Good luck to you, just post up if you have any problems or questions, someone is always willing to help here.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses::oncoming_fist::+1:

Looking good to me :+1:
And welcome to the forum, looks like you did a good job with the helmet head.

That’s often a death sentence for me these days  my hands just don’t work like they use to and the past few I’ve had got decapitated :downcast_face_with_sweat:

@d-Jawz I am using 5 gallon plastic buckets. I have about 9, half to quarter inch holes drilled at the bottom. I do worry about the bottom drying out, I have watered once with about 150ml of water than about 300 the second time. I also directly sowed the seed into its final container to germinate. It actually popped up in less than 40 hours. I think it was a bit of a preme(premature). The seed casing was really stuck. The second seed I started right next to it(in it’s own bucket) a couple days ago hasn’t popped yet, I made sure to put that one slightly deeper and just slightly press the dirt when I back filled the starter hole. Thinking that would make sure the seed case comes off before it sprouts above ground. We will see though. The second one I started is Ripleys og auto from mephisto. If that starts going I’ll document that to and add it here.

@1HappyPappy hey thank you very much for the compliment. I have to say when that casing come off I felt like an absolute miracle worker. I’m not kidding when I say I felt like a surgeon or midwife who just helped birth this little creature into the world. It was incredibly exhilarating and I was happy I decided to do it and grateful that it went well. I tried a couple different things but than finally found an idea on a forum about making two little hooks from a twist tie/thin piece of wire. It worked like a charm, I saved the hooks and am gonna use them again if I have to. Admittedly though steady hands are kind of a necessity for it.

If you will use a mister bottle and spray the helmet head a few times, most will absorb the water and swell right off the colys.:+1::oncoming_fist:

@Growdoc thank you for the advice. I did spray it a few times over the 24 hrs it was stuck on but no luck. And when I finally removed it with the hooks there was a good snap sound from where the seed cracked the rest of the way. Maybe it would have came off on its own but I was just anxious. I was able to remove the membrane after the seed came off and bam, here’s a picture of right after I did that

You are right :+1:
I even use saliva, there’s enzymes in spit that aid it weakening the membrane.

I had some black sugar seeds that was hard to get to pop and the ones that did nearly all got stuck i think i actually grew out maybe 6 from 2- 10 packs :downcast_face_with_sweat:
Great smoke but a pain to grow.

This will be a cool one to watch, I’m currently growing a photo og kush. Good luck with the smell, lol! My girl still vegging but reeks like I would expect a finished plant. She’s stinky!

Welcome to the neighborhood. Happy Growing :victory_hand:t3:

@Smoke_bz awh jeez lol. I am slightly worried about the smell. I live in an apartment, it’s legal for me to grow but I think I could still run into issues if the neighbors complain too much. But I’m hoping that doesn’t happen, some of my neighbors smoke, I smoke inside a little bit and haven’t gotten any complaints. If I have to I guess I can get a tent and a carbon filter. Good luck with your photo grow. I saw some disturbance in the soil in my other pot. I hope my og kush has a sister today.

Looking good Grow Bro, temps are ideal and could be be a little warmer and keep the RH north of 65% for the 1st 3 weeks :love_you_gesture:

Off to a good start. And yes I would get a tent and carbon filter, I currently grow in a room with no tent and the smell gets very strong when you start getting into flower

Yes. That wet spot is way too close to the stem.
Water in circles 4 inches away from stem. You’ll see a ring around your plant, not a spot.
Please be careful. OG Kush Auto cannot take constant over watering.
It looks good.
Be patient.
Some autos end up baby bonsai tress.
What are your mediums and nutrients?
Is the OG Kush from Royal Queen?
If do, that bitch is gas

@OGIncognito hey, thank you. I appreciate the kind words and advice. I notice today it was 79F in there so a little warmer than I had seen before. Hasn’t gone above that though. My second seedling popped up today so that’s exciting. I have a humidity dome on it for now I guess.
