1st Grow Input Needed Please

I wont use them. I dont like seeing in pics how they get moldy looking or blackish spots. That would bug me so ill stir clear of them lol. So far canna coco is the shiznit. Its total inert media. Can start full strenghth nutes from start it comes buffered and ready to go just expand with your nutrients and go from there. Im super happy so far with jacks 321 and canna coco

Update 3 weeks old today. Got new HLG 600r coming tomorrow and new 8” AC Infinity fans to help the heat in our 4x4 grow tent. Couple questions, how are they looking for 3 week auto’s and how do we keep humidity in the tent with the new awesome ventilation?

Looks like you are on track for 3 week old plants. I run my ac infinity fans in manual on lower settings to keep rh from getting too low.

@dbrn32 thanks for the tip but we have a heat problem already with these cheap lights. Can’t imagine what the HLG will do in there. Even purchased one of the powered AC Infinity Airtap register vents and running air conditioner in house at 74 and still can’t run fans that low or temps quickly hit 83 - 84°. Maybe add a 2nd humidifier or portable a/c unit?

84f shouldn’t be a problem with leds, a lot of us try to run there.

Where are you running your humidifier and what kind?

@dbrn32 This is what I’m using. Stuck it inside the tent and cranked it up to 80% running 24/7.

Been working fine for past few weeks but now with the heat and fans it can’t keep up. Thankfully you think the higher temp is ok for LED that’s one thing I can relax a little about.

Put my fans on manual lowest setting as you suggested and now it’s pushing 83° f and 44% humidity.

Best way I have found to use humidifier is to get large enough models to maintain the room that your tent is in. Then your intake air is already at or around desired rh. May be worth checking out.

@dbrn32 hey I appreciate all your advice working good so far! Didn’t realize we needed to spend so much money to make it right but it seems to be working better. just a recap so you don’t have to go back in the post we have 4x4 tent, ac infinity Cloudline T8 fan, Carbon filter, 8” booster fan, floor vent booster fan cause we have temp issues. Just installed the new HLG 600r light you recommended vs. the spyder 7000. The plants are going to be 4 weeks into veg this Saturday. They are in FFOF and just starting to take big drinks. No Nuets yet as runoff showing 2000 ppm without any.

Don’t have a clear indication from any literature how high the lamp should be from the plants and at what power level… I saw on the box it suggested about 40 inches for vegetation and I guessed at about 60% power? What do you think would be appropriate at this point??

I would run it at maybe 36" at 60-70% power for veg and see how things go.

Made it to 4 weeks old today. Made lot of changes including ventilation, HLG 600r light and just a few days ago moved to fabric pots. Been avoiding nutrients because of Foxfarm soil so rich. Our water going in reads 130ppm and runoff been as high as 2000 but now the runoff showing ppm only in the 300s so think they need some food. Got the FF liquid trio and the book says week 4 should be 2100-2380 but I see lot of people talking about giving 1/4 or 1/2 recommended dose so confused what the right thing to do at this point… could you guys help with some clarification or suggestions please? These are actually all the same age but the runt had a broken sprout when he went in the dirt so he’s a little handicapped lol. Didn’t think it would grow at all but she keeps fighting so just letting her do her own thing.

The way the feeding chart works:

If you were to start with water with low ppms (distilled or RO or quality tap water) and add the nutrients listed in the “trio” section of the feed chart with the solubles (Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz and Cha Ching), then your ppm would be in the range listed on the chart. If you aren’t using the solubles and mix the “trio” at full strength you would still fall far short of reaching the ppm range.

The solubles are used during flowering for bud development. If you aren’t using them that’s fine, seems like few people do, but you have no worry about over feeding them with just the trio.

A common problem with Fox Farms nutrients is cal-mag deficiencies show up mid flower if you have good lights. You should start with cal-mag every watering, and if just using the trio, every feeding as well.

Plants are really taking off now. Trying to train them to get more light to all potential buds. Running into problem with some leaves are either positioned just right or too big and they cover flowers. Can we cut some leaves like in this picture to allow light to the flowers?

Don’t do any cutting your in pre flower it looks like. Give it 3 weeks.

Just a thought - you might want to move you temp/humidity reader out of the pot as that can be misleading. I run mine on a plastic garden wire down until it hangs at the height of my plants to get an accurate reading.

Hanging Not quite at the top of the screen but you get the idea.
Keep up the good work! Jeb

Thanks for the tip Jeb. I Will certainly make that adjustment. Been fighting with inconsistencies between that and the external probe I have in there from my fan controller. Never know which one to believe so I just guess in the middle LOL.

Just a quick update, the babies are 5 weeks old today. Grand Daddy Purple Auto’s. Drinking about a gallon each every couple days. Been watching PPM‘s and PH and thanks to all the information on this website and help from everyone here they seem to be doing well.

Now that they are starting to flower should we turn up the light to maximum? HLG 600R running at about 80% power 18/6 schedule. I see people talking about switching the flower mode but does that apply to autos? Also read that we should lower the temperature and the humidity during this stage as well but they seem to be healthy in their environment now so what do y’all recommend??

Also been training them for about a week trying to maximize our potential. They grow so fast seems like an every day task but we enjoy playing with them and smelling our hands after LOL. Can’t wait to taste something we grew together for the first time. Reminds me of our first tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden they just tasted so fresh it was a rewarding feeling.
