It does kinda look like rot. I would bend the buds around to try and look in the center. I would cut and toss and buds affected.
Then a good bud wash after harvest.
That sucks, sorry to see that.
Yeeeeah kinda sucks to have this so early on but im not surprised. Its just been so wet and humid out.
I appreciate the feedback.
Bud worm and bud rot are usually related. I’m pretty sure that if you were to break that flower up, you would find this,
The best course of action would be to remove the damaged bud(s), inspect all plants closely to minimize further damage. I had the same problem last summer. It was very wet from the end of May thru July. I lost a lot of bud and had to do a painful trim job. The girls actually reflowered and I did get a harvest, just smaller.
The worm is the larva of a common moth that affect many plants with tight flowers. The same moth costs a lot of damage to corn, where it is called earworm. They have actually genetically altered some strains of corn to produce the active ingredient from Bti to control the worm.
I removed the area that was damaged and gave (everyone) a good spray of Trifecta to try and get the issue in check.
When doing that i noticed i have mold growing in the medium of all of my pots the odd thing is, it seems to be growing in areas where i gave a Top Dressing of Neem Cake on 4/15 so I’m actually wondering how to proceed…
Im guessing remove the mold the best i can and treat the area with Cinnamon?
These rainy days have really made a mess of things and we still have a other 3 days to go.
My girls are on the porch with a fan on them until the rain passes, but i need to get this mold situation under control.
Pics for reference.
I didnt see any signs of a worm when i cut things off, just a whole lot of black mush.
That mold is not likely to cause problems, more likely to be beneficial. Remove if you wish, the beneficial part is releasing nutrients for the girls.
Neem is another super food to the micro heard and natural to see this on topped pots. A visual of the benefits below soil if you’re adding to transplant hole.
I appreciate the feedback.
I jumped the gun and scooped out the bigger patches of mold, but its good to know its natural and nothing to be concerned about in the future.
I knew it had to do with the Neem Cake.
Regarding Rain and Watering/Nutes
How does one balance rain and application of Nutes/Additives?
We’ve had alot of rain lately and we have more coming later this week.
Its been so rainy lately that i havent had a chance to actually give anyone any sort of Nutes in a couple weeks for fear of overwatering.
Advice? Anyone?
I had to make the call and chop down my NL. She was so full of bud rot and I knew it was a lost cause - even after a good trim and a couple generous helpings of Trifecta she was just too far gone. So far my PK girls are holding on steady. I remain cautiously optimistic.
Growing outdoors may not be for me man. In theory I love the idea of outdoor grows but there’s so many things I cant control (rain, humidity, heat) that make things 10x more difficult.
I’ll stay the course, but, yeah this is rough.
That has been my conclusion as well. I prefer to grow indoor. That being said, I do plan on growing one of my freebie seeds outdoor, in the kennel garden, next to the tomatoes, and screened by cucumbers climbing the chainlink…just like last year. All just so the gossipy neighbors can have something to talk about.
Have you given any thought on dry nutes? Just sprinkle it on the top soil and use the rain to wash it down into the root zone.
